  • This is the second video of the travel series and in this episode, we will discover the top 5 things to do in The Old Town of Tallinn. We will visit the fortified tower and the underground passages, peek into the 600-year-old pharmacy and find out how illnesses used to be treated in medieval Tallinn. We will eat food that you could find in the pantry of the 14th-century merchant house and find out more about the structure of the society at that time.
    Huge thanks to the team of Tales of Reval for sharing their knowledge with us and if you are looking for a guided tour around the Old Town, I can not recommend them enough.
    We will be exploring more of the beauty of this wonderful city together so please subscribe. A new video will be up every two weeks!

    Actually, marzipan does cure heartache. It was a Persian doctor who first started to use it for sadness and sleeplessness. And today scientists have found out that a certain ingredient in nuts (which marzipan is made of) does help the body produce serotonin. And the Persians knew it way before us, they were amazing with their medicine and science as were the Turks during the Ottoman empire. So maybe cities like Tallinn brought some knowledge from those parts of the world. We were a busy port and a very international city. Even more so probably than today. I guess mediaeval people were not so stupid after all when it comes to medicine, we just do not know it yet

    hey.. I am enjoying watching your videos but I've got a question, I forgot the name of the supermarket that has a discount on some of the products in the evenings?

    • @VisitTallinn
      @VisitTallinn  6 місяців тому

      Most supermarkets have them nowadays (Rimi, Prisma, Selver, Maxima, even R-kiosk). Some shops now do reduced prices for products that are close to the best-before date as well. These products are labelled with orange or yellow stickers, depending on the supermarket.

    Hi
    I would like to know if a foreign person who has Tallinn Residence Permit can enter museum for free or not?
    Thanks!

    • @VisitTallinn
      @VisitTallinn  Рік тому

      Residence of Tallinn have free access to public transport, but not museums. There are Museum Sundays (the first Sunday of every month) where all of the city-run museums are free of charge for everybody: www.tallinn.ee/en/museumsunday

    Just saying: if you want the underground access in Kiek in de Kök you have to book in advance. They only do guided tours for safety reasons and there might only be a few every day. If you are here for one day only, book in advance if you want to go there. My personal opinion is that it is nothing special. Just a big and long cellar, not even mediaeval but from the Swedish period

    But where IS Tallinn?

    • @VisitTallinn
      @VisitTallinn  Рік тому +2

      Have you found the answer to that question already? Tallinn is the capital of Estonia and Estonia is in the Northern Europe, just below Finland and above Latvia.

    Nice videos!
    Friendly advice - You need to stop rubbing your palms together. You do that almost in every video, and almost after every talk that you do ;)
    Cheers from Vilnius!
