The first band i clearly remember buying albums for. 11 years old.
Some elaborations on the story about Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic -
Sting arrived with the demo which he had arranged and recorded with Jean Roussel who had a lot of fun filling it to the brim with pianos and moog sounds. It was a complete demo with not much room for anything else minus real drums to replace the drum box.
Everyone knew that the demo alone was a global hit but true to their nature they tried to record it as a band but any attempt would still not sound as much a slam dunk as the demo. They then brought in Roussel to bridge the gap, to Summers' chagrin who is still resentful of this decision, but still they could not replicate the "magic" of the demo.
I highly doubt there's anything from those Roussel sessions on the track because they finally gave up. Stewart Copeland did a drum take with the demo in his ears while Sting waved him through the changes and that was pretty much it except for some dubbing of the hi-hat . As much as he may have disliked it Stewart at least got to put his distinctive touch on it much in contrast to Every Breath You Take where he would esentially be Sting's human drum box with barely anything to say.
Andy Summers was the one who really drew the short straw though. There was barely any room for his guitar to do something of note except for the second half of the bridge. Besides that he plays an ornamental skank guitar on the chorus and some delay effects on the verses and the fade out ending.
It is barely a Police song and they hardly ever played it live after the tour. Until the reunion that is.
At the time i was surely a fan because of the first hit singles, but when i bought the first album a few years later i wasn't that happy with it. Like it better now and it's my (only)favorite.
So the others I just rented them in the music library, good thing because in the end i only have 14 tracks, making up for one - probably a bit too long - excellent album.
Next to You , Peanuts, Truth Hits, Can't Stand Losing, Don't Stand So, Every Breath, Every Little , Invisible Sun, Message, Canary , Regatta ,Spirits, Roxanne, So Lonely..
"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. But I'm here to subscribe to your channel" -Liam Neeson, probably.
This Police playlist is, 9/10 spot on. But I'm here to listen to the rest of your material!
I’d pay a lot of money to see a Police reunion tour show.
one of my fave bands - during the 2008 reunion tour, went up to the old Detroit area stomping grounds from the not so old Nashville stomping grounds.
Elvis Costello & The Imposters were the opening act - a great night of music!
All the best from Tampa...
reggatta de blanc has such a great feel and flow. personal fav.
Bonus track: Wrapped Around Your Finger from the Certifiable: Live album... The video displays Copelands genius
One of the most unique bands of all time! Outlandos d'Amour
is probably the album by them I've listened to the most. A Doors playlist would be great next
It’s a great one. Doors is definitely on the que.
The Police are an Awesome band. So Lonely is my fave.
Great Bob Marley / So Lonely edit! I saw both bands live (1977/80) but I never spotted that. Very cool ;)
Yep I'm a Ghost in the Machine fan and love Stewart's grace note drumming on Spirits in the Material World (as in Systems of Romance - Ultravox and Love over Gold - Dire Straits) I do love Tea in The Sahara, but then I love Paul Bowles & Morocco...
Very nice, although I think Hole In My Life is a great underrated track. It’s got a memorable beat along with fun harmonies.
Definitely an underrated track, the Live at Boston version is also very cool - the way they interplay with the audience.
Just picked up regetta de blanc on vinyl today. It’s my first record of theirs, and I love it!
I'd include "The bed's too big without you" and "Wrapped around your finger." The Police's catalogue is quite impressive, I loved it at the time but have never cared to revisit since and I'm not sure why (those were my HS and college years). Maybe it doesn't pair well with other music of the era unless it's a very pop Top 40 mix? Not rock, Caribbean, or dance club enough I suppose. Plus Sting became very much mainstream and adult contemporary too much.
Anyway, well done JTCurtis, just discovered you and appreciate your well qualified take on the classic bands.
Thank you! While those are great songs, for some reason they never hit me quite in the same way.
Before his stint in Police, Andy Summers first showed up on my radar playing with Eric Burdon & The Animals. He’s an under appreciated guitarist.
Glad that you included KING OF PAIN which is one of their best songs. Although it deals with divorce as the main theme it has some coincidental (maybe?) imagery that could be from the author Harlin Ellison's story PAINGOD. I always wondered if Sting was a fan of his work.
Also love Demolition Man & Omegaman from Ghost...
Haven’t heard your top 10 but I just gotta say Roxanne is the best, period.
Police are my favorite late 70s early 80s bands
PS love the channel, love your commentary!
super cool in many ways this band was ahead of their time they came out way before Sublime and if you look the 90s when lot of bands was doing that punk meets reggae thing maybe the police should get more credit
Definitely a very influential band.
Great list. I prefer the Blue Turtles version of When The World. I also like Canary in a Coalmine and speaking of relevant lyrics Murder by Numbers 1 2 3 ....
Murder by Numbers is another good one, sadly I think it loses its punch due to its placement on the album.
Maybe Pink Floyd? America? Simon& Garfunkel? Dire straits!!! Eric Clapton!! Bowie!
Awesome breakdown JT. You are the man !
Most appreciated!
aww i love canary in a coalmine
Maybe after Earth Wind and Fire Pink Floyd or Queen + your channel is growing Very fast
I’d love to see one on Steely Dan, if you know them well enough.
My father was pretty much obsessed with them so I know their material quite well.
I couldn't do a Police Mix without Low Life.
Let's see a Deep Purple playlist!
Jung is pronounced like "YUUNG".
Do Pink Floyd
Why Omegaman is not in this list? My favorite Police song! The energy, everything in this song is so powerful!
But I like the video very much.
A request - Living Colour and/or Soundgarden, please!
Good tune, was considered.
@@JTCurtisMusic I agree with you about Ghost In The Machine, a lot of great songs to choose. Congrats, great channel.
@@TVGabo1985 Thank you! Feel free to subscribe.
@@JTCurtisMusic Already subscribed!
No omega man is crazy one of the best rockers on ghost in the machine
You should do The Grateful Dead
Do madness
is it possible elvis presley playlist and who is the most influential singers of all time , thanks
Possible for the future Rod Steward,ELO,Eagles.
Please do a Bruce list
That would be so sick
I would throw in a few Stewart Copeland numbers in there (Does Everybody Stare, Contact, Darkness) plus Andy Summer's should-have-been-a-single 'Omegaman' from Ghost in the Machine. Surely One World Not Three is The Police's weakest moment (yes and that includes Mother). I recall one critic referring to it as 'pious stodge'. Repetitious and rather dull.
Definitely, it's why I included "It's Alright for You" in the bonus tracks, but I also considered "On Any Other Day." "Omegaman" was also considered and is definitely Andy's best contribution to their albums ("Mother" not so much LOL).
I've always loved "One World" but it's also been in my covers setlist whenever I play and super fun to jam out, so I might be biased. But even when I first listened to it, it definitely stuck out.
@@JTCurtisMusic 'One World' probably does work better live. Find the studio version a tad lacklustre. Bonus points for including 'Secret Journey' with it's beguiling melody and washes of synth.
Do nirvana please
Be a bit of a challenge considering they only really have 3 albums, but I do love me some Nirvana...
@@JTCurtisMusic you mean 4 albums bleach nevermind and incestinside and in utero
@@Zacky336GiantMario909 Incesticide is more of a compilation of past singles, but yeah good point. I suppose Unplugged can be included as well...
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks that synchronicity it’s totally overrated. I just have some good songs like every breath you take, synchonicity I, in murder by Numbers. But then their songs like mother and O my God that are just hilarious awful, and then the other album or just really boring synth songs that I’m not into in to at all.
Carl "Chung"? Really? I do thank you though for NOT including Do Do Do Do Dah Dah Dah Dah. Hate it!
