- What lessons can Nairobi learn about managing traffic from Nigeria’s fastest growing city, which has a population of 21 million people and 3 million cars on the road every day. Waihiga Mwaura is in Lagos to understand the challenges and possible solutions and he filed this report.

Tafadhali Watanzania wenzangu naomba tusitishe ili zoezi LA kubishana au kulinganisha chochote kile na Wakenya, let us work hard an show them actions

I went to Lagos last month there's life there I most admit. Seen is believing you have to see for yourself development in Lagos is not to be compare with any Africans city it's a city of opportunity
@Izevbizua pls tell them
Thabo don't be childish please your talk doesn't make any sense, more than 21 million people in Lagos are not Nigerians they are from different countries around the world that's why population keep increasing everyday. Alot of Chinese company and USA plus other countries, why do they migrate to Nigeria also if no hustling...... See my dear if you have gone out of your country you won't be happy with your government, Nigerians doesn't think any Africans are more than them but we are talking about why our country is not more then USA or like USA that's what we are all fighting for, you guys should wake up
LMAO.your not serious at all.
She said the truth her own experience and you people are attacking him or her if you have different experience say it.
Lagos is one huge shithole no wonder so many Nigerians are dying trying to escape thru Libya.
We Kenyans vastly overrate our selves. Stop and think. Out of capitals in the region, which ones have an organized public transport system? Addis has the light rail, Rwanda has a BRT derivative, Dar has the BRT. The only cities that have no organized public transport system are Nairobi, Bujumbura, Juba, Mogadishu and Kampala. 3 of those are in failed states the other is bloody Kampala led by an idiot.
Hiyo ndio ligi yetu mguyz. Failed states and dictatorships. Kuna ushenzi that has seeped into every fibre of Kenyans. Dar surpassed us long ago in times of size and will do so interms of GDP.
Keep on thumping your chest based on stats that make no fucking sense. By the time common sense catches up with us, tutajua hatujui.
We try but truly far behind than we Kenyan s think of ourselves.... Very true observation
The BRT in Lagos was a big joke n does not solve the perennial traffic jams in that city.Nairobi's Mass rapid system is in the pipeline, let's wait n see how it pans out.
Addis is organized for sure but apart from that Nairobi is still developed and very modern.
We were ahead until this regime brought us back a decade
@@samwanyoike193 true, Uganda was ahead but this Museveni regime man
A BRT-system combines the affordable costs and flexibility of busses with the speed of rail-bond systems. In the end, many commuters and inhabitants of bigger cities will choose public transportation over their cars. This results in a decreasing traffic volume, less air pollution and reduced noise in the cities.
Greetings from Brazil!!
Lagos has over 5000brt busses and 2 assembly plants for those buses and new mega bus stations are up and there's the rail coming etc etc
And sea ferry's
Metros are the real key!
U guys shud stop saying or ranting rubbish about Lagos u guys shud Lagos brt has it own road check out Lagos brt system on UA-cam and check the new bus terminal that has been built with over more than 3000 bus that has been to provide for the service Lagos GDP is even surpassed that of Tanzania so stop saying rubbish about Lagos
Seun Oyewande, Don’t mind them. The reporting is flawed. They should have interviewed the commissioner of transport of Lagos State who would have updated them of the recent procurement of 5k buses and the two assembly plants that will assemble the same buses and maintenance.
your english is very wanting, sorry bro can't understand a thing.
Beautiful Beautiful I love to See TRUTH about Africa Feb 22, 2020 ,,I love the water boats, AMEN LAGOS
Tanzania na wakenya ni watani wa jadi, tutumie tu lugha nzuri maana sisi sote ni ndugu na mwisho wa siku tutakuwa nchi moja inayoitwa East Africa
Lagos population is bigger than the whole of Austria
Oh my God! 21M in Lagos? Here in Somalia, the whole country is estimated to 10M. So only Lagos city is ×2 of Somalia plus 1M. My fellow Somalis where did the rain start beating us?
You can't compete the West Africans because they inter marry with each other alot, Somalis only marry with their community that's why they can't expand. The west Africans are Giants in Africa, Nigeria has a population of about 250 Million that's more people than the entire East African region. Kinshasa city in Congo has 18 million people & growing on steroids. 😂😂😂. The GDP of Lagos alone is bigger than that of Kenya. So reduce your egos.
Good reporting
You failed to say something about the new bus reform initiative.
Tanzania hipo si kwa marefu zaidi ya Lagos, Tanzania sasa wanaendeleza kuziongeza zaidi I hope after five years Mungu atafanya wepesi na tutafika hatua nzuri sana , God bless John Pombe Magufuli and God bless Africa 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Dar has 168 brts the ferry 200,000 daily....
Logos has 1000 brts ferrying some 200,000 thousand....
Sonko has ordered 68 brts... hmm acha tuone
Love from Indonesia
Stop this Tanzania vs Kenya, it is exhausting, others are cooperating and we are here quarreling,
Citizen came to Dar and have a good report.
Before every major project countries do a thorough investigation/research, I commend ke, keep looking around for inspiration. Unless kama tayari mnayo?
Exactly..the west is working together. Thats why we will never pass them
@@samwanyoike193 Even in west africa we dont fight so much. Nigerians work in Ghana and Ghanaians in Nigeria. We have a friendly rivalry and will give respect to the things either people are getting right..
You guys in East Africa have historical links to each other with the Swahili conferation. You shouldnt be fighting.
We Africans have a lot to learn from each other. As a Nigerian I was very impressed watching videos on how clean and developed both Kigali and Dar Es Salaam are.
If we work together we will get there my fellow Africans..
@@nograviti2388 Yes we will, we just need to pull Africans out of ignorance and show them the importance of having a common sense of belonging!
Then these silly competitions will end
I think the heading is about Nigeria but the comments are just about Tanzania ....who asked if brt systems are in Tanzania or not
Most of Kenyans they know not about Tanzania, they had never travelled to Tanzania. We have a very rich and beautiful country soon we are going to surpass Kenya for every thing even GDP.
Kenya has never been in competition with Tanzania. What we face today in our continent are common problems: our people need medicine, they need enough food, they need security within our borders and beyond, they need solutions to effects of climate change, they need better infrastructure, they need proper employment etc. It's common sense that we need each other to achieve this and childish games of who wins and who looses are simply stupid.Quick recovery!
If you knew how hugely the Tanzanian economy depends on the Kenyan economy, you'd quickly erase all your digital footprints and voluntarily succumb to your own mental oblivion!
@@lordcamau , tell him.
@@eastm.1110 Have you ever noticed it's only the Tanzanians who are always busy comparing themselves to Kenya(ns), insinuating how better they are and what not. That's the absolute showcase of inferiority complex... Kenya is in a league of it's own in this region - we set the pace. While ALL other countries in this region, including Tanzania, are classified as Third World and LDCs (Least Developed Countries), Kenya is already a Lower Middle Income country and we aren't far off from the middle level.
@@eastm.1110 Understood
Lagos is more challenging and complicated beside the most Africa cities and also active in all side and development
21 million!!!
Im suprised that there isnt a ferry service like there is here in London, GB or in NYC, USA.....
Because those countries have more money and have had more for over a century. You have to work with the resources you have. So many comment as if everyone is playing on a level playing field. We are not. As Nigeria and Africa continue to develop these things will be put into place. You cannot compare Nigeria with the US of GB, they are at completely different dtages of economic maturity.
There are ferry services with world class terminals with restaurants in Lagos
Wait and see what Nairobi will offer
Cars are a pain in cities.
You not by yourself we have the same problem here in Houston Texas. Traffic and road rage .so when you come to visit America stop here in good old Texas and buy yourself a nice Barbecue dinner and a glass of cold Budweiser Beer 🍺 .
Rail system...
Elevated BRT a better way? One already in operation in INDIA.? !
You're showing us keke...we want to see nganya
😁🤦
Hehe.. Ukona kaujinga
Tuko nyuma, no need to debate with matatu, tao hao makanga and thieves from town, it's dirty and noisy....
Do not tell that crap . The road I 'm plying daily you want to preach to me or what?
Tanzania 🇹🇿.. hizo zipo
hipo na wanaendeleza kuipanua zaidi
Just 30% to use a overcrowded bus over car. That's not enough
No way my dea brathada
Most nigerians imports very very old and poor vehicles. This contributes to high level of air pollution. The city is very dirty too. So many problems here.
Traffic is being caused by traffic lights?
Yes, that waiting, cars keep piling
Art Dehnow TV traffic light brings orderliness, it’s just too many people in Lagos and no real option from cars. People come to Lagos from other countries and other states on a large scale and they have to move around. If the roads/water ways/rail roads are will built and other states do what they are suppose to do then Lagos will see a change in traffic.
Traffic lights in Lagos are often not coordinated/synchronized and each seem to controlling/creating an island of cars on its own. Ideally there should be a control room where traffic lights are synchronized and controlled according to the needs of each developing traffic situation.
hizi basi ni zimefeli toka mwanzo , hii haionyeshi ukweli , hizi basi zimekuwa matatu , zinajazwa mpaka waweza kufirwa , Kenya msidanganyike , hii ni kampeni ya magufuli na kenyatta kisha chukua comission yake , Dar is still a slum
The only cause of traffic is lack of road signs and maintenance combined with impatient drivers. It can be fixed in one year.
Nairobi is just loud mouth promises every year nothing changes. kukula pesa ya kazi.. bure kabisa!!
Irony..learning from Legos
Yes you should learn from Lagos, Nairobi have only 3 milion residence and cant control there traffic while Lagos have over 21 million and is still not as bad as nairobi.
ban all those second hand japanese cars
WTF? Are u serious? 21 M?
21 million people
Dude how can you compare different metrics? Lmao
Nairobi is far better manageable than Dar or Lagos.
Now that something Nairobi can follow . but don't compare Kenya to Tanzania.
sundown299 damn bro, that’s kinda ignorant.
They have a system that works... we can learn from the good and bad.
Tanzania is getting things right, meanwhile kenyans are making stupid comments like yours!!
That is a very stupid comment typical of someone who has never travelled outside his village and who shouldn't be allowed to have kids. Lagos is 7 times bigger than Nairobi. Dar Es Salaam is about 2 times bigger than Nairobi. We kenyans like to talk big but never seem to realize that ours is a typical 3rd world country.
sundown299 , I always see Kenya as a wrong planner , why can't you compare Kenya to Tanzania while Tanzania has achieved the project which you fail even to design
@@agarjakendu you can't compare Nairobi to daresalam or Lagos maybe Johannesburg or Cairo i can buy.
