      In 1968 nobody in Britain or Ireland knew about it either.
      It wasnt until the mid 1990s it started being used by tradesmen on building sites.

    I was there that day, actually didn't miss a single day of track and field at the Estadio Universitario. was sitting in the opposite side to the jump competition and even though I didn't see it, remember a collective gasp from many in the crowd. It has to be the longest unbeaten Olympic record in history. None of the other competitors came close to the old record, so much for blaming Mexico city's altitude...

      There is a story going around that the Mexico Stadium was windy, but not a single wind gauge registered above 1.0 m/s because they had been rigged. Do you remember the stadium being windy?

    His landing technique looks like what gave him the edge. Landing thrusting forwards. Everyone should adopt this style.

      Why not do a summersault

    • @robertwagoner5122
      @robertwagoner5122 Рік тому +4

      Actually, this is incorrect. A jumper should neither pitch forward nor fall backward on landing- the optimal form is a “jackknife” position with the legs extended forward. Beamon achieved this correct position, but because his jump was so unusually far he did so too early, and his legs dropped out of the horizontal position by the time he landed. Because they were not reaching forward as far as they should have been, Beamon pitched forward on landing. His jump would have been 8” to a foot longer if he had waited a little longer before jackknifing.

    • @humanbean3
      @humanbean3 8 місяців тому

      summersault is illegal. there was someone who did it i think and it was quickly deemed not allowed. too dangerous probably. i can see why people would think it would give an advantage but in actuality it wouldnt make that much if any difference. all the movement that you would be saving is done in the air, which you're already traveling at maximum velocity from which you jumped. so as long as you end up in the same landing position where by flipping forward or pulling your legs upward, will produce the same results@@iamAurel1us

    I will never understand records that stand from that long ago .. in every other event, records get destroyed because we have better running shoes, better supplements, better training mechanisms, and a better understanding of form. This makes no sense to me how a man from 1968 has a top 3 long jump to this day. Take the 100m for example.. back then, a 10.2 would be a gold medalist, now we have people running sub 10 like it's nothing. Same goes for every event after that, as well as the high jump.

    • @ORIGINALGAMESONLY

      i guess that makes Usain Bolt an Alien :D

    • @multiio1424
      @multiio1424 7 років тому +10

      At some point it's bound to run up against a limit. E.g. if you assume that it's physically impossible for humans to run 100m below 9 seconds, since the record is 9.58 right now, as long as we don't measure 1/1000ths of a second, there can only be 58 more records, probably much less than that (like 10 or so), for the rest of eternity. At least until we genetically engineer superhuman athletes or take a few thousand years to breed them naturally.

    • @skaizu
      @skaizu 7 років тому +15

      Humans will break 9 seconds in the few hundred years for sure if we keep finding new ways to make our bodies respond in a way that we gain more power. Right now we only have the method of lifting weights for more power but im sure there are alot better ways to train our bodies than weights

      Sometimes it's because of the wind
      Sometimes it depends on the person's height
      Sometimes it depends of the speed you run
      Sometimes it depends on the closest you get from the white line
      Sometimes it's all of the above together.
      Conclusion: sometimes, it's a matter of luck

Fun fact Carl Lewis broke the record he jumped 8.91 moments before Mike Powell jumped 8.95 probably has one of the shortest standing world records

      Actually Lewis’ 8.91 jump was wind-aided, so it would not have counted as the world record. He did jump 8.87 and 8.84 in the meet after Powell broke the record, and those were the 2 longest legal jumps of his career.
