This boi just flew
Fun fact, he was said how long he jump but had no idea how good it was because he was not familiar with metric system.
How American

In 1968 nobody in Britain or Ireland knew about it either.
It wasnt until the mid 1990s it started being used by tradesmen on building sites.
I was there that day, actually didn't miss a single day of track and field at the Estadio Universitario. was sitting in the opposite side to the jump competition and even though I didn't see it, remember a collective gasp from many in the crowd. It has to be the longest unbeaten Olympic record in history. None of the other competitors came close to the old record, so much for blaming Mexico city's altitude...
There is a story going around that the Mexico Stadium was windy, but not a single wind gauge registered above 1.0 m/s because they had been rigged. Do you remember the stadium being windy?
yo gramps xd
His landing technique looks like what gave him the edge. Landing thrusting forwards. Everyone should adopt this style.
Physics would say that thrusting forward pushes you back with equal force.
knees are high on his extension with head forward
Why not do a summersault
Actually, this is incorrect. A jumper should neither pitch forward nor fall backward on landing- the optimal form is a “jackknife” position with the legs extended forward. Beamon achieved this correct position, but because his jump was so unusually far he did so too early, and his legs dropped out of the horizontal position by the time he landed. Because they were not reaching forward as far as they should have been, Beamon pitched forward on landing. His jump would have been 8” to a foot longer if he had waited a little longer before jackknifing.
summersault is illegal. there was someone who did it i think and it was quickly deemed not allowed. too dangerous probably. i can see why people would think it would give an advantage but in actuality it wouldnt make that much if any difference. all the movement that you would be saving is done in the air, which you're already traveling at maximum velocity from which you jumped. so as long as you end up in the same landing position where by flipping forward or pulling your legs upward, will produce the same results@@iamAurel1us
why dont they record from the side so we can see how far it is? This angle is absolutely horrible
This was filmed in 1968. Go see the most recent 2012 olympics. They did side views as well.
PapaKay plenty of other videos with the side view on youtube
Mexican cameras
It was 1968
Y u hating even if the rules are the same u can’t do the same thing as him
As a small high school long jumper, i have never seen something so amazing...
How far can you jump
4.57 you ?
Are you guys seriously right now? I don't think anyone could ever possibly beat my entire 2
@@jimwelgarcia3978 I newly 15 and I can jump roughly 6m
mike powell's world record of 8.95m (i think) was made during the 1990 Tokyo world championship, right? so bob beamons olympic record still stands.. wow..
Such an incredible clarity and definition of footage
I will never understand records that stand from that long ago .. in every other event, records get destroyed because we have better running shoes, better supplements, better training mechanisms, and a better understanding of form. This makes no sense to me how a man from 1968 has a top 3 long jump to this day. Take the 100m for example.. back then, a 10.2 would be a gold medalist, now we have people running sub 10 like it's nothing. Same goes for every event after that, as well as the high jump.
that's what makes it so special, the longevity and the margin of victory.now all the records are hard to beat, but every decade or so a special talent comes along and makes history, track and field is a beautiful sport
jarmila k. (womens) 800 meter record is going to be the hardest to beat.1:53 for a women is insane.but if you just look at her build you can see she was using steroids.none the less keep watching its going to be a long while
Once was said that running below the 10 seconds mark on the 100m was impossible for a human.
i guess that makes Usain Bolt an Alien :D
At some point it's bound to run up against a limit. E.g. if you assume that it's physically impossible for humans to run 100m below 9 seconds, since the record is 9.58 right now, as long as we don't measure 1/1000ths of a second, there can only be 58 more records, probably much less than that (like 10 or so), for the rest of eternity. At least until we genetically engineer superhuman athletes or take a few thousand years to breed them naturally.
Humans will break 9 seconds in the few hundred years for sure if we keep finding new ways to make our bodies respond in a way that we gain more power. Right now we only have the method of lifting weights for more power but im sure there are alot better ways to train our bodies than weights
Amazing Beamon!! What a jump, especially for that time in the sport :)
0:57 gotta take the picture of his crying face fast
This gave me chills
1968: 8.90 Meters for first place!!
2016: 8.38 Meters for first place!!
SMH why can’t Long Jumpers these days Jump 29 feet?😂
Too many Doritos that's their problem
because athletes do not take testosterone at these times
Sometimes it's because of the wind
Sometimes it depends on the person's height
Sometimes it depends of the speed you run
Sometimes it depends on the closest you get from the white line
Sometimes it's all of the above together.
Conclusion: sometimes, it's a matter of luck
Dude look at beamon's height!!
La altitud de ciudad de México es la respuesta
I thought my jumping 19 feet in high school was really something. Mr. Beamon was over 10 feet longer. The Beam Man!
May never be beat...what an incredible jump!
+Sean Hiseman it's still an Olympic record, though
someone didn't read the captions lol
you are right it won't be beaten for at least 100 years
It is wonderful to see individual performance and joy.
This soundtrack makes that moment more memorable.
Lol I can do that. Here, hold my beer..
Okay then 👀🍺
Bulshit u cannot do upto 5 m
Shaik Subani why so serious ?? He's joking bro lol.
Shaik Subani I can.
Alex Hong says hold my beer.
* jumps and breaks every bone*
For a sense of scale go and watch Mike Powell's 8.95m WR. It's only 5cm more. Only when I watched that I then realised how far Bob Beamon's jump was. To think he improved it by over half a metre is staggering
Wasnt just him either. He and lewis had multiple jumps longer then 8.90 but with too much wind at that event
He adjusted the gravity before he starts
Mexico Olympic and 1970 Mexico World Cup remains the best sporting event of all time.
Bob Beamon you are always great
app mughe batae app ko kya fill ho raha tha ki mera world record me name aye ga
Truly legendary
The Legend 🌊
his OR will never b broken!
凄すぎる………………
かっこいい!!!
What a beamonesque achievement!!
Mike Powell 8.95m unbroken record
true sports man
Him: Can Human fly!!
Also Him: Let's find out.
Amazing
They jump sooooo high
Wired: Why it's almost impossible to jump farther than 8.95 m
Good power
The last 2016 produced 8.39 as gold by Jeff Anderson....feel the difference
Mike Powell holds the record from 1995 at 8.95 meters
Who’s here after the men’s 2020 Olympic final?
Here
The longest jump was by Mike Powell at 8.95 m in 1991.
but not olimpic, dude.
OLYMPICS IS THIS YEAR PEOPLE
who is the long jumper at the end of the clip?...
Hope you saw Jon Bois' history of Bobs on SB Nation
Me when they say: I've just mopped the floor.
USA dominating Long Jump.
WIERD how they dont show it from the side.
weird*
wow
Possibly he made the jump because of altitude?
Ivan Pedroso 8.96m U.U
bob beamon vs carl lewis
Can someone please tell which music it is? Or is it created by Olympic channel itself
One day he will take off his mask and show the world who he really is... Luigi from Super Mario.
terrible
nice😇
What about windaid??
Its the elevation
In Hammer Olympic and World record holders are dead already. Let's wish Bimon many years and to see 75th anniversary of his record!
My PR is 13’3” (I’m short) but in practice the other day I got around 14’. And then the day before a meet, I tripped on something and almost tore part of my toe nail off. And then at the meet I got like 12’8”. And that was the last meet. Im disappointed
Waste Of Oxygen Next year try the running long jump.
This was beaten by mike powell. 8.95m 1991.
As a world record not as an olympic record
I choose you beamon
"Go Beamon".
Mike Powell
Longest long jump ever Eurylochus of Same.
Pankration.
aniversary
I can jump 15 ft but Damm
Mike Powell?!?!?!?!??
Olimpic Record... friend
I thought Mike Powell broke that record with 8.95 in 1991?
The WR is Powell's. But this - Beamon's is still the OR.

I will broke...
Worlds longest jump...more like worlds longest neck
good joke bro!!!
More like world's longest legs. Dude that guy has frikking towers for legs
I'm a dumbass and didn't realize it said meters and not feet, the camera angle didn't help tho lol
HE ALMOST JUMP OUT OF THE PIT UN REAL) 2023/.
Tb miter se napte the thoda sa uper neeche hua buss 3-4 inch to badh he jata hai😅😅😅
30 ft..
Just rig their shoes to jump higher and further.
World record.......miilk powl
8.95💪💪
i thought mike powell did like 29 ft
Uncle Steve He broke Beamon's record in 91.
ThomasRiekki Exactly. Mike Powell broke Bob Beamon's World Record, however Beamon's Olympic Record still remains.
Do you think someone will break it at Rio 2016 ?
***** Nope! lol. Nobody has been consistently jumping 8.50+ for quite a few years so I don't see it happening. I guess there's always the possibility of a massive jump out of nowhere just like Beamon did.
***** The only way to beat Beamon's or Powell's records would be for a top 100m guy to start jumping
+MrRebuttal broke it by 5cm barely did it. sadly only got silver in his two olympic games
Jesse Owens x25
I can just 20 m without eny effort just give me the weed
Longest jump
Yo is anyone still watching this in 2018
Max Britcher yes
This record has already been broken and was broke by Mike Powell. Mike Powell jumped 8.95m compared to Bob Beamon’s 8.9m he jumped just 2 inches further. Fun fact Carl Lewis broke the record he jumped 8.91 moments before Mike Powell jumped 8.95 probably has one of the shortest standing world records
Conoced la difetencia entre record olimpico y mundial?
Actually Lewis’ 8.91 jump was wind-aided, so it would not have counted as the world record. He did jump 8.87 and 8.84 in the meet after Powell broke the record, and those were the 2 longest legal jumps of his career.
kya karu sir mero long jump 16 feet hai mujhe 23 feet karna hai sir app kuchh kare mai akhilesh patel belhai post panni maugang rewa m.p mughe selcoson hona hai guru app ki kripa ho
ok
My personal best is 11.2 m but not in Olympics so doesn't count
I can jump 6 metres
Remember guys. He had a tail wind of 4 mph helping him. The most allowed in the Olympics long jump.
I am 13 years old and have a 4.6m personal best. Do you think that's good?
That's really good
Paul Pruden I would say that's avarage...
I'm 14 years old and have a 6.40m personal best. Do you think that's good. :D haha
BRASIL
+João Víctor wow!! In my school they can't even get passed 3m & we're the same age😂😂
Here's Brasil! We have blood Hopper! It is in genetics...

@@sjplive967 Please use their names, Mike Powell and Carl Lewis are both legends. Stop saying this guy and that guy.
d
Mike powell 8.95
I reckon Ronaldo would smash it
Terrible camera angle
I can jump like 5 or 6 m sometime
Рулеткой намерили не пойми чего
What about Mike powell 8.95 m?
Bro Dexton Crutchfield got 30 ft don't mess with him
Nah it's just a fake videos
No offence but he was most likely under some sort of drug substance
No he wouldn't, performance enhancing drugs were outlawed by the IOC in 1967.
You're racist.
Lol I jumped 9.4 mtr in High school Sports back in 2014 . I think I have the world record far more better than this person .
The Olympics is different .Rules, length, wind, support checks and everything so chill
