sorry, but what competition? they hit down the middle, played trading slices, of wich felix only hit backhands while humbert hit both wings and played a net game. That is just having fun on the court, there's zero competition involved.

How is it that Felix practices at Muratoglou and IMG academes, trains with top 20 players, plays really close practice sets with them and still only has 1 atp point? I dont understand
Mental + physical just aren't on the same level as his fundamentals (the technical), where he's good enough to hang with most guys. Mental is the difference between coming up with the shot to break or to hold under pressure. It's also how you deal with weird courts and balls and opponents. Physical is exactly what it sounds like. You have to be able to play your best over long matches over several days. Felix has the technical skills to play short and low pressure points with these guys but doing this in a major match environment again and again is a completely different league.
can someone confirm if Ugo indeed deserved the hate he received or not in the game against Karen Kachanov? tennis fan base seems to be very toxic and to me he's just a dude that wants to be the best
As a french person, I obviously can't be 100% objective but I do follow Ugo from a long time. To me, I noticed that during bercy, he tried to relly take advantage of the crowd's support because he tends to be nervous as he is a very sensitive person. Moreover, his game needs a lot of confidance because he doesn't play with a lot of margin. For me, it also explains why he started to grunt, both to release tension and to get that warrior spirit he wanted with the atmosphere. About the game against Karen, i see no problem with the way he behaved before the last point. Karen's injury didn't seem to be very serious at first and Ugo didn't want to fall into a false rythm. The only thing I can blame him for was the celebration on match point, just after Karen fell and started to limp. But, knowing how nice of a person Ugo is, I think it is obvious that he didn't realise it was disrespectful and was just to psyched about the win. It was a really important moment for him, reaching his first M1000 final on home soil. So appart from the two last points, I don't he's done something wrong and even on the last point, a bit of empathy and you understand his behavior. Some dislicked the way he celebrated on many points but once again, he was just full of adrenaline during this tournament and wanted to maintain confidence. it also think a bit of celebration and warrior spirit is cool, sometimes, tennis misses a bit of that.
I mean personally I was more inclined to defend him because people's reaction (specifically ppl who like to voice their opinion online) tends to be very toxic and exagerated. If you read posts and comments it looked like crime against humanity type of thing. Looking back after thinking about it fairly, I think neither side is "right". Yes when you're injured and losing a match like this, you're frustrated, you want to see respect etc. But when you're an up and coming player, playing for your first masters1000 final in front of your crowd, and that you're not the most mentally strong or stable, it makes sense to want to keep the energy going and to still see the opponent as the enemy until the last point. People tend to forget that because we often see politeness in front of cameras and all, but more often that not players aren't friends, they 're here to take the prize away from the other. When you've been following Ugo for years you know that he's a down to earth very nice guy. And that his behavior is just him trying to be as mean and focused as possible until the last point and wasn't a reflection of an arrogant/jerk personality. I also think that Karen, while I respect him a lot for being a fairplay and genuine guy, didn't try to put himself in Ugo's shoes. Karen is a bit older and more mature, he's won masters 1000 and already got top10. I think it's reasonable to not expect the same behavior from players who don't have the same experience. It happens pretty often that a player loses a match against an injured player because it's natural to lose focus and stop playing normally out of empathy to the opponent. And when it happens, the same haters are the ones saying the guy is a clown and has no mental strength for losing against an injured player. Also I think that it's hilarious that even a guy like Nadal who's THE perfect sportsmanship player in a lot of people's mind has had multiple conflictual behavior like that in his career. Yet people will compare him to Ugo or anybody who's done a mistake like if he's a saint.
For everyone still criticising Ugo for what happened at Paris, he has explained his actions and apologised. Although he still should have behaved better, he does not deserve all the hate right now.
You're so lucky getting to play all of these pros!!
And you're giving them competition. Greate playing Felix!

Yeah no competition. Humbert would smoke 6-0 6-0
It's not luck....

@ Yeah, I thought too that he seems like a nice dude and just kinda forgot the "social rule" due to the adrenaline. thanks for the input
