You answered your own question. A lot of people are just miserable and can't stand to see someone else find that special something that's eluded them all their own lives.
Last I checked he is 41 years old and he is making a living on still being a kid at heart. I would as most of us who subscribe to Zack's channel trade places with him in a New York second !.
Barry Jowers I mean, nothing worse than the type of guy who’s runs around the stadiums and snags balls from people, just when they want it, especially a kid, and won’t give it back to a player if it’s a milestone.
People hate him because they think he pushes kids and takes away the ball from kids. But they don't check to see if that is true. He got a lot of hate when he fought Arods 3000 hit. There is a mini doc on that too that you could search for here on UA-cam. I think MLB did it not sure.
He's always giving baseballs away to kids who didn't get one and making sure he signs every autograph and takes every picture they ask him to. This guy has a passion for something that is considered unusual, but it's original and he does it the best.
I've watched a lot of Zack's videos today and one thing is constant, he always gives all or almost all of the balls he catches to young kids. How could anyone dislike him for that? The sheer number of kids that come up and want a picture with him or his autograph is amazing. He is an ambassador for baseball fans to MLB.
Thank you MLB for the great video. I am very impressed with you making this very nice mini-documentary on the greatest MLB super-fan and ballhawk out there. Congrats to Zack Hample on 10,000 baseballs! Let's hope for MANY more to come.
He doesn’t show much game footage and it’s mostly BP. Also because the MLB supports him more as an ambassador of the game. It sucks that DodgerFilms can’t film anymore and I wish he could but that’s just how it is I guess.
NFL doesn't care a single bit about fans. Hence why they moved both the Rams and Chargers to LA... and that's gonna be a tank financially just like the Marlins were in 2012
He is a good dude. He strategically plan everything out from Batting practice, catching foul balls and talking to to player during and after the games. He know Baseball and love the game. I like him and his videos.
Zack is the perfect fan for baseball. I hope the teams see him and recognize him more. This is stuff that fans love man. Zack keep rocking it bro, it took me awhile to sub to you, but you have a great personality and I hope the league / teams hook you up more. Your better than reporters bud.

10 000, that man is an absolute beast. I salute you sir with my one game experience of baseball, lifetime total of a solid zero. Still love it, greetings from overseas!
Only recently started watching Zack’s videos. I am a fan of this dude though. His love for the game is pure. He is passionate about what he’s doing. People who say he is greedy clearly don’t notice or care that he gives away more than he keeps. He gives back first home run balls, or career milestone balls to the players. He truly understands the importance of it. 10,000+ lifetime baseballs, that’s a feat. People throw shade cuz they’re jealous. I’m jealous too, but I think it’s awesome. Keep it going man. Congratulations on all your success, I wish I could go to as many games as you even if I didn’t catch 1% of the balls you have caught.
So glad I watched this. I saw a story on Zack once and after it was over, I realized how old I was actually getting. I sounded like the old guy who screams "get off my lawn" at the kids and I've been a baseball fan all of my life. There truly is an art to what he does and it deserve a tip of the cap. It was riveting to hear his mom say that only he knows when it'll be time to say it's enough and only he can make that determination. It shows how much of a passion this is for him and that it's not about greed. Great piece... Godspeed Zack.
he gives away literally 90% of the balls he gets, every important ball hes caught he always gives back to the player that wants it. how can you hate on the guy? I dont get it...
i always wondered that too. i think i first heard about him during that whole a rod story. after hearing that this is his thing, i was like man i get it. baseball is practically his livelihood so even if he wouldve kept the ball i wouldn't be mad. it's not like it's some random person in the game looking for a quick come up. zack would literally build a shrine for it
Zack is a class act and a great example of what it is to be a baseball fan and more importantly, doing what you are passionate about. Life is short people, do what you love!
I remember seeing Zack on TV years ago! It's like he has a 6th sense. Where the ball goes, he is there! Concentration + passion = world record holder! Congrats Zack Hample! The father & son connection is awesome! :) Tyler Kepner said it perfectly! :) He turned his passion into 150,000 dollars to charity. Awesome! Did anyone notice him giving one away to that kid? Thumbs up.

What a great story, your passion is incredible...i love the recognition you get....soo sweet man! You are an incredible person! Your energy is contagious and i love it!
Baseball is an amazing game! As a fan no other game can offer what baseball offers. You can get closer to the players, talk to them, get autographs, take pictures, play catch in some cases, and if a ball comes at you, you get to keep it. Like Zack said it can feel as if you're part of the game. Anybody can go to the team store and buy a baseball, but to catch one or have a major league baseball player hit one or throw one to you is special. No other sport will ever come close!
this guy lives every baseball fans dreams. Goes to all 30 MLB stadiums & even international (Tokyo). Attends playoff games. Meets and interacts superstars. Collects baseballs..
Would be cool if a minor league team let him play for a game. They let Pat Mcafee for basically no good reason except for the heck of it, so why not this guy.
The guys who sit around & talk about sports are making fun of a fan? FoH, at least getting the ball requires effort & skill. Anyone can sit around & talk about sports.
Zack Hample does deserve a special place in Cooperstown. He is a dedicated, unique, and a super fan of the game. I would enjoy seeing him honored there for doing something a lot of us would like to do. They should add an wing dedicated to fun things for the fans. Water Cub fans $1, White Sox fans $10. Love the humor and the fun of the game. Zack is a very memorable and fun character of the game.
I think it's terrible that people say he needs to grow up. I'm not sure what that means and why it's a part of this? You could say that this is his career in a way, he is well known, creates content on youtube, and gets to live in ways most of us dream about. A lot of kids look up to him and he makes a lot of them happy when he passes the balls on that he caught. I say go for it, Zack!
For the sports media haters in the video. You're jealous, plus you're making a living on what other people do. I don't feel sorry for you. Great video MLB. Thanks !
I'd love to attend more games, but between work, available time, distance from the closest stadium, and my wife not wanting to go, it is real hard to do!
I’ve caught a foul ball cleanly at a minor league game before. It’s one of my most treasured possessions. I do have a few other baseballs that I’ve gotten at games before but that one tops my small collection. Zack has taught me through his videos to value every one I catch.
My first watch of this. Wow, it was really well done and way to be a stand-up Ambassador for our hobby/sport and Baseball. Glad to be have been small part of your journey. I never would have started writing and taking pictures had it not been for your blog back in the day. Your passion inspired me to show up early to the games and bring a glove. I enjoyed it so much and met so many cool people I started writing and taking pictures. After I caught my first BP homer it was exactly how you described it...Like being the 10th player, I felt the connection. For me as well a game is not a game unless you show up for BP. I correlate the love of chasing baseballs to chasing hockey pucks that flipped over that glass as a kid. You are doing it right Sir.
I like his pose after 10,000 like he just won the world series. He looked like he was expecting a standing ovation for something no one else cares about

I've watched a lot of his videos and I've always wondered about him if this is just an obsession he has or if he is just a true fan of the game
He's a huge nerd but that ain't bad we're all nerds in our own way I'm a nerd in video games. I like people who are obsessed with their passions they always succeed. I respect it even though it's not my cup of tea
They should add Zack as a cameo in MLB the Show the game
Agreed
Man this shows that he does not get them by luck. He puts a lot of work into it.
I love baseball i grew up playing baseball; and seeing the way the MLB team speaks about Zack really hurt. "we needs more fans like you,BUT MAYBE NOT SO DEDICATED AS YOU" that's a guy who's been at nearly every one of your games pre and post
