    Regarding the changes in the tonality of the chords, one way to achieve a similar effect is to vary the velocity of the notes within each chord while mapping velocity to cutoff or filter envelope amount. That's for sure the kind of thing you learn to do as a pianist, emphasizing one tone more than another. IDK if that's how it's done here, but it's a tool for the kit.

    Thanks again for another amazing breakdown Alex. As you're probably aware, Atobe was one of the artists on the massively influential Chain Reaction label. Chain Reaction released a number of classic dub techno albums in the late 90s/early 00s. Here's a classic article where another Chain Reaction artist Robert Henke (aka Monolake) describes his production process: ""We use Minimal Structure," explains Henke, "which is a Mac program which will just do minimal repetitive patterns. If you just jam on a minimal pattern and every now and then you change the pattern, but you don't change the sound/Song, you have very little to consider in terms of structure; rather, you can consider things in terms of sound, space or colour. What we do then is just play the studio, all the synths, all the editing, all the mixing, all the filtering, all the EQing, all the compression - that's the composition.""

      Yo thanks for tuning in :)
      I appreciate you copying and pasting that. That is a cool way to consider things - I personally actually don't really produce dubby stuff too often, but those sentences helped make it more sense!

    been fucking with shinichi for years, how did you get these stems?

    • @alexwilcoxx
      @alexwilcoxx  4 роки тому

      These aren’t actual stems - I just create these midi tracks to give a visual representation of what is happening so I can then talk about arrangement :)
