I especially liked the point you made about not needing high contrast for faces. For a while, I was super confused why warhammer faces look so... off, and this definitely cleared things up!
@@Zumikito so I'm painting my first ever flesh tone and I'm pretty new to miniatures in a whole so would a flayed one flesh base and a gullimen flesh contrast not be the way to go cause I'm afraid to mess these up
I've watched a lot of different mini painters on UA-cam. There are so many great ones, but I particularly appreciate your concise videos!. Keep up the great work!
Been watching this channel a while now, one of the best in all honesty. The models are unreal but the most impressive thing is how pointy the brush tip is.... How is this possible. Keep it going
Dude, you are motivating me to get back painting and improve with your videos. This and your Volume videos make me think that those techniques are accessible. I never try glazing because I think it is too difficult for me... Of course I will have to try and practice, but I feel I can break this barrier ! Thanks
You can do it! Also different paints can be glazed differently (white is hard to glaze), so just keep your patience :) I have a vid on glazing as well btw
Even though I am new to the hobby, this helps so much in helping me understand the concepts I need to know even If I'm not practiced with them yet. Thank you so much!
I loved your determination here 😄 You said "In this video you WILL learn..!" like the viewer would have no other option but to learn this thing. I was watching like "Oh 😮? I WILL finally learn how to do this thing? I... Umh. Hell yes I will! 😤👌"
I think that this end of the pool is too deep for me , as a miniature painter. But i have to say, that your video did help me to make better faces, so thank you for this!
The thing I like the most about your videos is that they are all pretty clear and quick, one of the few youtubers that actually does it. Absolutely perfect. Good job mate
Going to have to attempt to layer up instead of washing now as faces are one area I definitely want to improve. Also, I saw Josh Brolin at 2:20 and now I can't unsee him.
Good tips there - however, one thing way too many people miss is that the sides of the nose should not, repeat NOT be shaded - true, they are for natural reasons lower than the bridge of the nose, but that doesn't mean it needs an automatic shade - just look at the example picture of Geralt - no shades on the sides of the nose. Another thing to think about is the eyes, and the scale of the miniature - on a 28/32mm miniature a dark brown slit is in most cases all you need, since you can't see the eyes that well - a human sized 28mm figure held at say 30-40 cm from your own eyes is the equivalent of a person standing about 15-20 meters away from you, and at that distance, most people have difficulties seeing that kind of detail. Painting the eyes more detailed than a slit makes it look overdone. For larger scales then sure, eyes to a varying degree of detail can be painted - in 1/35 it's enough with one dark line under the upper eyelid and a dark pupil (never black though), on larger scales, yeah, you can pull out all the bells and whistles. But remember what scale it is you are holding in your hands.

oh no, I always prime first, the resin underneath is clear....it might be that you CAN theoretically paint without primer (assuming you wash the model properly), but I personally wouldn't risk it
It is very similar, but you start even darker and don't highlight so aggressively, but yes, this is a great suggestion that I will add to my list of topics, thank you

@@Zumikito okay so just thing with water or the Xpress medium? I'm keen to move on to these sorts of paints as I've only been using the Xpress for a while now
99.9% of the time I just thin with water, so that's alright! If you like Xpress paints, they are great to get the initial thing going and then you can layer on top of that, but they are too thin to actually layer with them :) Cheers my dude
Great video. I'm just starting my journey into bust/larger display pieces and have been having a heck of a time with faces. Biggest hurdle is which color/hue to mix in. Your video definitely helped! Thanks for making it.
I have a 4-step-2-paint way to actually easily paint faces (human-like). Base with Rakarth Flesh -> shade all over with Reikland Fleshshade -> SIMPLE highlight with Rakarth (nose, brows, chin, other standing out features) -> shade all over with Reikland again. If you thin the shade at each step a bit, you'll get a lighter face (sickly pale). Additions: Miniscule drop of black wash into eye sockets (it look amazing from distance, and not so bad up close)

Wow you skin tones look really amazing. Please make a more in-dept video tutorial of how you painted the Witcher character and Sister of Battle faces. I think that is my wish for your channel in general, while the small theory based videos are great, you are such a talented painter that I would love to see some full on Vince V. or Angel G. style videos, where you show your process in full. Anyways keep up the good work.

@@Zumikito I'm happy to hear that I got you thinking 😁 But yeah I can imagine longer videos being a challenge to keep engaging. I'm sure you are up for the challenge though, while still staying true to yourself. Anyway thanks for taking it into consideration 😃

I couldn't agree more with every point you made, faces are so so important and I personally love painting faces, especially eyes because they are so difficult, hard work and patience really pays off :)
Really love to see your top notch quality videos! Please dont stop with your videos. In my opinion your channel is way too undervalued and deserves much greater audience. Thank you! You are way too kind. I am going to start a patreon or channel membership later this year, so that might be a way, but I am currently struggling creating content as it is, so I have to figure out consistent schedule first (or I feel that's how I feel it)
Another awesome video, thanks man! I have a 75mm Lily as well 2:09 and I have noticed that you seem to have some footage from her painting stage from lots of your videos and I wonder if you will share a video based on her?
Instructive as always. But I faint when I see how you who are able to dot the pupil of an eye---and then highlight it. I'd be ecstatic if I can just get two dots lined up correctly on the white of the eyes! Even so, yours and other painting videos have helped me push the envelope to better looking miniatures.
Thanks for the vid! I suppose I should start learning how to paint faces, I've been avoiding it for a long time :') Also, what miniature is shown at 1:09? I really like the euh, personality.
Mournfang brown + cadian fleshtone is the base, then I added more cadian fleshtone, then I added different ratios of vallejo pink, vallejo ivory and tiny bit of any yellow. For the sister it is the same basecoat and with added flayed one flesh and/or ivory. There is no definite process, you just have to see it and progressively add as you go :)
One mistake a lot of novices commit when painting eyes is leaving the sclera (the white part of the eye) visible above and/or below the iris (the round colorful part of the eye). This gives the face a terrified or shocked expression. To prevent this from happening you need to paint the iris so that it connects the top and bottom eyelids. Also, painting the eyes looking perfectly straight forward can be challenging (and result in a somewhat boring expression), so making the eyes look to the side is a nice way to both cut a corner and add motion to the miniature, if you tie it to the pose right.
