- I made the mistake of using the wrong insecticide on some of my Aeoniums and almost killed them. I wanted to talk about what happened, how to avoid the mistake I made AND the insecticides that work with NO bad effects to your plants.
Insecticides I use on my plants:
-Safer Insect Killing Soap
-Bonide Systemic Insect Control
-Bonide Eight Insect Control
-Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer (NOT on Aeoniums!)

This is a fantastic video Kathy! Definitely subscribing :)
Thank you so much!
The Bonide products are GREAT! I use 8 all the time for cacuts, great stuff. Does not hurt my little green guys at all. I only see dead mealies! The systematic powders you're right cannot be used indoors but the granules CAN. The Bonide people recommended it for that purpose. Again, only dead mealies, tee hee.
So glad you found something that works for you. I know everyone has their favorites...sometimes it's just trial and error :) Thanks again for watching!'
Another great video. Very informative !!!
Hi Kathy! What a great video! This was very useful! Any solutions for white powdery fungus/mildew for succulents? Thanks
Does Safer soap destroy the farina on Echeverias?
Not in my experience. I've found Safer Soap is 'safe' for everything.
@@Justkathyskorner thank you so much! I'll try it.
Thank you!!
Very informative video
That Home Defense is not for use on plants. Any use of Neem oil? Did they ever recover?
I really don't use neem oil...not sure why. Yes, they did recover...thanks for watching 😁👍
Sometimes the insecticides will burn the bite marks the bugs already made by the bugs . I always pull those off to help get rid of any eggs that may be on those leaves . I know your pain !!!! I’ve had favorites completely turn to jerky after spraying. I’ve got Brevipalpus mites . AKA , the Satans of the plant world . I sprayed everything in my collection last year to make sure I was killing mites even if I couldn’t see any on each plant under the microscope. My absolute FAVORITE crested Fred Ives completely dehydrated like jerky after spraying. And that one had zero signs of mites . That miticide I sprayed actually killed about 5 crested Fred Ives . Believe it or not , I had the worst luck with the insecticidal soaps . Especially if I didn’t rinse the soaps off . But even after rinsing off the soaps , I’ve had several get killed with the soaps . Thank you for the video 😊
Sometimes succulents can be very finicky or very tough. Good luck with all your insect issues, seems it's a never ending battle.
Thanks so much for watching!
Haha, we've all been there. Thanks for the tips!
On any of the above insect controls that you used, would you spray the actual plants and the soil or just the plants? Of the four insecticides that you used, do you have one that is more your go too?
For sure the insecticidal soap is one I would go to first, I typically just spray the plant.
Then I would use the systemic. That is a more long lasting solution.
Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching!
Also keep in mind to not kill the beneficial spiders or the honeybees.
So true!
Hello so I was wondering what type of insecticide solution did you used that caused the leaves to burn so that I will not buy it. And please let me know what are you using now. Thank you.
I explain everything in the video...thanks for watching.
Do those prevent/ treat the soil as well?
I only use the things mentioned, on the plants. I have heard there are other things you can use on the soil but I'm not familiar with them.
Use alcohol 70
I've done that for infestations of mealybugs but I don't spray that on plants. I've damaged plants by spraying it.
Ifvyour killing anything You're wrong sorry
