There are new airlines, and then there are NEW airlines. Bonza burst into the domestic scene in Australia in January 2023. It is definitely a breadth of fresh air and what's even better - they aren't pitting themselves against the incumbents.
This airline is absolutely carving a niche for itself flying some rather obscure and bizarre routes from their bases of Melbourne, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Their viability is still up in the air (pun intended) because it is still early days. Nonetheless, they're unique in what they do.
They've also very proudly embrace the bogan culture us Aussies are so known for. There's a little bogan in all of us, so let's strap in and enjoy the ride.

Ryan, I work for a low cost US airline and tell my customers to take a screen shot of your boarding pass so you will always have it at the ready. My airport's WIFI is not the most reliable. But if you screen shoot your BP when you check-in (often at home) you will have it in your pics.
I used to do that... And my screen grab does not scan for both airlines I regularly fly. Which is why I got the paper BP. Maybe its my phone.

I was using Rex but booked Bonza after seeing Jetstar’s pricing for my flight next week. Have saved $40 on the flight alone. Hope Bonza succeeds
Bonza also flys Melbourne to Bundaberg Wednesday & Sunday & thankfully all flights are quite full, so the route will continue.
Bonza has already dropped about 6 routes that didn’t have reasonably full flights.
We definitely need Bonza as another option for cheap travel.
Indeed, with only about 4 planes, they can't afford to do daily flights anywhere. You'll see 3 Bonza planes in my video so that's 75% of their entire fleet! Haha

Well, there really isn't any other LCC besides Jetstar. And that's not good.
@@ryansoflyFully agree, I think it’s good to see REX add new routes as the full service alternate (such as Hobart etc), but the LCC market is still very monopolised! Hopefully Bonza succeeds and continued to grow and challenge Jetstar on capital to capital (IF they can get more planes)

Thanks for your support mate! Nah, QF group is too dominant out of SYD at the moment. If anything, REX would probably get in first. Plus SYD to anywhere isn't in Bonza's business plan... Well, for now it isn't.
The incumbents of Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin are just not going to let go of their surplus slots at Kingsford-Smith Airport without a fight. Now that Labor is in power at both the federal and NSW state levels, which engenders cooperation, it is reasonable to assume that Bonza will be granted slots at Sydney before too long. Failing that, Bonza will most certainly operate out of the brand new Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek when she finally opens in 2026.

The pity one major airline and its younger sister airline makes it very difficult for any new airline. They control landing and take off slots.

Bonza serves 17 destinations, yet only has 4 Boeing 737s in service. When you fly with Bonza, you are certainly taking a risk with delays as they have no redundancy with spare aircraft. When one flight is delayed, all other flights relying on the same aircraft for that day will be delayed as well. ✈️
It is/was the same story with Jetstar/Tiger. Suppose that is how LCCs operate.
@@ryansofly Tiger was just never that serious, hence its predictable demise. Jetstar naturally has the backing of Qantas so the new 2004 LCC entrant always had more certainty. If memory serves, Jetstar served the all-important Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane eastern seaboard route from the outset with Boeing 717s inherited from Impulse Airlines.

Good video about bonza. Delays happen to all airlines, not just budget ones. Its a shame they don't fly out of Sydney - I'd be willing to give them a go if they did.
There's no way Bonza is cracking SYD any time soon unless there's a change in their business model. MEL is certainly an oddball in their quest to connect secondary cities to smaller towns.

Perth still waiting for interstate flights with both Rex and Bonza. Ah well, at least we have 4 hour flights to Indonesia.
Amongst them both, REX will be the likely candidate. Bonza's present business model won't see them doing flights to WA any time soon.

@@ACDZ123 Yes Rex covers some of regional Western Australia but doesn't connect to the other states yet. We're still waiting to be able to fly to Sydney and Melbourne and onwards with Rex. Especially my family, a relative of ours has just had a very stressful couple of days with three Virgin flights in a row cancelled. At the moment I'm looking to use a pre COVID Jetstar credit that I thought I'd never use. No longer planning any Virgin flights!
Shazza, Bazza, Sheila and Malc are the plane names I've seen so far. I'm wondering if Malc was the grounded plane and which one has been reclaimed by Flair in Canada...
I didn't realize Bonza had an aircraft grounded! Bonza and Flair share the same owners so there'll be aircraft swaps happening more often. Well that's the plan, at least.

People with no manners fly on budget airlines. You always see reports of poor passenger behaviour making the news with these airlines. Reminds me of the quality of people that shop discount retail stores.

@@clay9185 yes. They start that earlier than Avalon- starting MEL-Gold Coast on Nov 16. They fly to lots of places from Melbourne (Tulla).But was responding the original comments about Geelong/Avalon.
Tulla-Sunny is close to the only route Bonza actually went into competition on (directly), as Deathstar do that route as well. The Max just seems like too big an aircraft for many of their routes, and only a couple of days a week (plus being app only, so no agreements with expedia, skyscanner, etc) might mean people don't look at them. I can't help thinking Qantas will muscle in some of these routes when their A220s arrive, to try and shut down competition, and then abandon the routes again and make people pay for two flights again.
I'm very curious to see how their business model will pan out. I mean, it's never been done before. You're right about the Max being too big. Mildura? Bundaberg? 737 really? Suppose time will tell.
Bonza stated that the main reason they are flying this route (in completion with Virgin, Jetstar and Qantas) is moving aircraft between their original two bases - MEL and MCY.

Mate, that seems like a lifetime ago. I was an air force officer with the Singapore Air Force. We were stationed in Rocky where I was a liaison for air traffic. I started my career in ATC.

Bonza here for “jetstar” not good at all cancellations after cancellations.
They presently do not inspire confidence. But they do have more 737s coming their way from FLAIR, their Canadian sister airline.

Bonza openly discriminates against those with a disability. They segregate them right from the ticket purchase stage, a truly degrading experience.
Bonza policy costs those with disabilities time and access to ticket sales, in addition to the gift of humiliation.
It's a practice unlike that of any other Airline in Australia.
