I spent so much time here in my childhood and teenage years. I remember when the South wing was being built and Woolworth was still there. The movie theater was new and I saw Jurassic Park there. :p KB Toys and Suncoast was my home. ;A; I can probably name what all these stores were in the 90's. Oh yeah, and McDonalds used to be near the entrance of the food court. I got many a happy meal there. I used to work in JCPenny in 1998. It was my first job. I worked at Sears for awhile too in the mid 2000's. My mom worked at Roger's Jewelers and whatever jewelry store used to be where that sprint store was.
9:15 I worked at Camelot Music from 1982-1983. It's where GMC is located in the video. The location may have been broken up into smaller stores. Originally located at the main front entrance on the left as you entered the building. The Mall then was smaller only going as far as the food court entrance. Instead of the food court there was Aladdin's Arcade. Hot Sam's Pretzels was across from Camelot's and the pizza place right next door. Friendly's Ice Cream was at the entrance. I really miss those times. It was during Reaganomics so jobs were hard to come by. Got laid off after the video game crash. No need for a video game salesman with no games to sell. Move to Silicon Valley and did well in tech.
I went there today dec 21, 2022. I think I counted 7 stores open. I predict it will be shuttered same time next year. I’m glad you got away with taping a lot of this and named a lot of former stores and got a pan of part of best buy and the JCP escalator. BB’s been spirit halloween 2021-22. when it was woolworth’s I have an electric 3D horse race game with the woolworth’s logo on it and I played armor attack and phoenix arcade games by the food counter inside the entrance. I also have an alladin’s castle arcade token @4:15 that was a toys & games shop in the 70’s. then that’s the cleveland indians team shop facade modeled after the then jacob’s field. then right past that on the corner was regal shoes. when they raised taco bell’s rent around 2014-15 they said see ya later and I think that was the beginning of the end .ironically they’re building a new one across from the mall I would think betting on the mall turning into something else @10:28 it was a bookstore on the right might have been borders. there was an oak tree men’s clothing store on that side. Higbee’s I remember the attic restaurant and the sunken gazebo that sold hot dogs. those globe lights by the long sears entrance were inside the mall. my relative worked at sears when it opened. he bought his wife an engagement ring. he had it appraised. it was the highest quality diamond. my other relative worked at louis cohn’s. and some high school friends worked at stores.
Midway Mall really started to go downhill in 2007 when their Dillard's closed just a few years after Great Northern got a brand new one. Store redundancy I would imagine. Also didn't help they weren't getting the bigger, nicer stores that Great Northern and Crocker Park had, along with the immediate Elyria-Lorain area having gone downhill over the years as well.
Their Hot Topic just called it quits too. Shame they don't do outdoor plaza stores as they might've gotten better business in that Kohl's plaza in the west side of Lorain or at that outlet center on the south side of Elyria bordering North Ridgeville.
I always said when a mall loses it pretzel shop it's doomed and with a newer stand alone Penny's in nearby Avon this malls future looks quite sketchy.Power sports store can survive just fine on its own without a mall entrance splains the no signage @ old Macy's mall entrance.Macy's owned the store and either sold the store or leased it to new store.
Tony Romo I will always have hope for it only if it completely closes. This was my 2nd home in the 80s and one of the biggest times of Elyria was when Tiffany performed in 1988. Talk about packed!!!

3:09 Looks like the mall took a dip sometime after mid-2000s. The Victoria's Secret storefront dates from 2005/6

It's so sad to see what used to be a thriving mall turn into a ghost town..
Such a shame, it's not just this mall, but many others. That's what happens when you buy your stuff on the internet.
Holy shit . About 10 stores closed since 2016 . I use to work at lens crafters
Is this mall currently closed? I would love to see it....
I used to work there from 98 till 2000 as nite cleaner
