    I used pure pumice sifted into 3 layers..the larges grains on the lowest layer…super fine material all sifted out ..everything washed…also I use shade cloth on bottom of mesh tray…raise the tray up to allow plenty of airflow….rooting powder dip….mist every couple hours during daytime….cover..warm temperature is good..I only tried this once and had great success..beginner luck

    Really useful demonstration. I'm interested.in seeing which soil section works best for rooting the cuttings. All of your trees look well loved.

      Thank you! Historically both cactus mix and super small particle akadama/pumice worked pretty well. Let's see how it will go this time! :)

    Love cactus soil… I use it and only it for the past +5 years now. Perfect balance of organic/cec and inorganic/aeration, imo (esp for dry hot SoCal). 🏜
    Super easy and simple to use too… no mixing, no buying multiple soils, etc.

    Great video, thanks for the demonstration. I really like the wire trick! I also want to get more woody cuttings and leave some bark on like you showed. Now to go get some trays and cactus soil :D

    i've recently bought a katsura and took cuttings from it, it seems to be way stronger than deshojo. Cutting's roots are already coming out from the bottom of the container

    Wonderful video as always. Can you root Japanese Maples by simply placing the cuttings into water. I root many cuttings this way but I've never tried Japanese Maples. Thank you.

      Thank you! No I don't think it's possible to propagate JM cuttings in water. It does not shoot roots like Pilea...wish it would 😅

    What is the theory behind tearing the cutting from the mother plant vs cutting it with scissors?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому +1

      It exposes more internal tissues and encourages the root growth :)

    Hi Momiji love the video, I have a cutting right now in the shaded area so far so good. Question after the pinching from the branch do you have to seal the the bark from the tree?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому +1

      No you can leave it as it, the tree will heal the wounds as it's so small

    I tried the same method, but my cuttings get dry in 4 or 5 days. I dont know why.. temperature 20-25dgrs, on shady place....and still drying..

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому

      It could be that the soil is not moist enough all the time or each cutting has too many leaves and drying up faster than it could absorb water from the soil?
