i think you should stop calling yourself an idiot or noob, the fact that you did this video is very helpful and I believe everyone here are still learning. So cheers and thank you very much for your effort!
Very helpful, thank you! Just bought my first Grom yesterday and decided to do the full change with new gaskets like this. Took my noob self like 2 hours but it was worth the piece of mind. Lots of gunk and shavings were in there!
Thanks for the video, I appreciate explaining the "unspoken" tricks and little tips that the seasoned "Self Mechanic" already knows. Keep up the great work!
Great video and very helpful. A lot more helpful than some guys who only care about making a 90% fun video and 10% informative. I also ride around my neighborhood without a helmet. Sometimes even in my bed shorts because I felt like riding around real quick lol.
Really appreciate that you did an oil change tutorial:) I let the dealer do the first but will do them on my own from now on. Would love to see a chain slack adjustment tutorial in the future.
Ok.......I just wanted to mention that the way you did the oil change is the correct way to do it, most people just drain it out the bottom and fill it up on the top, that's not the correct way to do it so good job don't beat yourself up over that stupid gasket you did a great job.👍
Nice work I own a 2017, same color Check out the Kitaco Clutch Cover, eliminates the cleaning of the Spinner and Screen, adds a regular filter Enjoy your Vids, keep it up SB
You can place a copper penny between the clutch gear and the spinner gear to hold it in place while taking the spinner bolts off. Same thing for tightening, just place the penny on the bottom of the gears.
LOL, that last bit. but on a mechanical note, y'all put a copper penny in the gears when dealing with the oil spinner, top and bottom. it helps. it's easy. just dont forget to take it out when youre done.
I just take mine to a Honda garage for oil change. For $2 extra for labour there's not much incentive to do myself, especially as I would have to do it on the street - but it is always good to know just in case and to understand about the engine. I have done a few thousand miles but don't remember seeing the mechanic ever doing anything else but draining the old oil and putting new stuff in. Definitely no new gasket or new seals; probably they only change them when it is really necessary.
My 2019 Grom manual recommends the engine oil strainer screen and centrifugal filter to only be cleaned when it gets to 8000 miles. Just engine oil at 600 miles.
The oil strainer and centrifugal filter? Too much BS... Just use a tiny spin-on on oil filter. I've seen filters that are 2" diameter and 2" long. With a spin-on, you also have a measure of safety by not having to remove an oil screw and continuously torque it. The spin-on has a nice rubber gasket...
@@xaviermccloud4586 I agree. Too much work for a job that should be simple. They are also trying to get you to bring it into a shop to get someone to do it all for the money.
You only need to open the case if you’re cleaning the spinner or the filter right? So definitely for the first service. After that how often do you clean the spinner and filter?
Hey there love the video.. 😀😀🙏🛵🛵🛵 I'm planning to do my first service on the bike I just wanted to know where can I get HONDA GROM GASKET SET OIL SPINNER & CLUTCH COVER GASKET .. ???

Especially on a bike that is minimal and small, and has the engine space for an easier more simple design. Maybe they do this to keep service centers in business?
QUESTION! SO I got a replacement clutch cover (right side) and I notice the dip stick is closer to the clutch basket rather than the oil spinner. The dipstick is located right text to the clutch lever. Are these interchangeable?
when you did the spinner gasket did you think which way does it go ? haha when I did mine the old one was flat and the new one has a hump in it ,I just tuck a guess and stuck it on . im sure it want make any difference .cheers for video .
Dude, same here. I just put it on in the way that it sealed against the spinner nice and tight. I think they must flatten when you tighten it on, or maybe with heat as well. But the one I took off was flat, the new one had a contour to it, just like yours. So I guess we will see lol.
Use a copper coin and place it in between the teeth on the gears when taking spinner off. Stops it spinning and copper is softer than the metal used on gears so it doesn't damage anything
Good video. I caught you tightening the drain plug at first. Rookie mistake, but veterans still do this on occasion and we feel like idiots. LOL A knuckle (also called a universal), swivel sockets, or wobble extensions would probably make this job easier in the future. You have a much better style than the "Yo, bros" that try to be cool. Those are far too common in the Grom community, especially on UA-cam. Thank you for the good and honest video.
Honda Grom Question-- I think i put to much oil in there 2018 grom but after i change oil i can barely downshift it and it wont go in to neutral when the motor is running!! ANYBODY PLEASE HELP
but why? isnt it free to change oil in honda dealer cuz the bike still new? my 2018 grom has 5000 km guarantee and free service ( pay only the liquid like oil). for 1 year. well i live in switzerland,so maybe different than in states?
Because it sucks and a pain in the a$$. The rear sets and/or rear brake spring mount is in the way. It comes off without removing, I just did mine yesterday.
Holy Smokes! Is this a regular oil change? Or are you just doing it out of the ordinary for your own personal satisfaction? I kinda doubt this is what’s recommended by Honda if it is so, it’s more com0licated than a ktm lc4 engine or a usual competition engine. I thought the whole thing for an entry level bike is ease of worry and ownership since it’s also has the sam3 design as the original cub engine.
this is exactly what they recommend, many people dump the stock "spinner" for the kitaco oil filter setup instead to not deal with this hassle anymore.
i dont know who you meant by "they" but i kinda doubt the procedures you did is even in the grom manual. but you obviously know what you are doing its a mis title in your part though for just an oil change. i hope your bike runs better after what you did.
i have owned bikes with no oil filter and i never opened the crank case nor it was suggested in the owners manual, so i never bothered. i am also not mechanically inclined, i guess if you can do it and know what you are doing. its just going overboard in my pov. BUT if this is what is suggested in the owners manual for the grom then its just seem more complicated compared to regular bikes. the engine from the looks, is lifted from those honda cubs.
