Disney: “physical media is dead. People don’t want to spend $$ on discs.” Also Disney: “We now have available to purchase a blu ray box set for $1,500.”
This isn't for mainstream audiences. At this point, physical media is marketed mainly to the people with the cash and desire to spend big bucks on box sets: collectors.
If it was all 4K with a bunch of movies released in 4K for the first time there would be an argument. But $1500 for a blu ray box set (even a huge one) is nuts.

Congrats on the exclusive review! I think 15 bucks for each film plus digital isn't terrible. Of course 1500 bucks is huge to spend all at once. But in terms of value for money it's solid. Awesome you'll have this for your kids to enjoy for years to come.
incredible set and the price is reasonable if someone has never bought these before youre essentially getting each movie for $15 (x100) with digital in premium limited packaging
I'm good with my $250 55 disc disney classics collection and most of the pixars on 4k stand alone releases. Any mega fan already has many of these releases, at this price it's only for mega wealthy collectors, not any of us.

Great review Jeff - great points made. I would love to get those early, early Disney movies, Snow White, Fantasia ... on 4K :). Fantastic point about how this should be picked up conceptually by other studios.
Gotta agree with many posters - this set needed to be 4K to even be a possibility. I will say that I find it ridiculous that anyone can try and justify this kinda cost for blurays as we often can find many of these already for under $10 even on DMC. That being said, this does feel like it is more for the "Disney" collector than the "movie" collector and may be priced appropriately for those that really don't care about having the movies as much as just another high end collectible from the Fat Rat (I lived in Orlando for a number of years).
@@chrisjfox8715 , and if you truly think of Disney animated movies as "cartoons", I don't believe you are giving them the respect they deserve. Those animated movies, particularly the older ones, can often involve even more time in human resources and investment than live action films. Regardless, if you're going to invest that kinda money, don't you want the product to be presented in the best way possible? Kinda like going to BMW with $250K and walking out with a VW. Nice enough vehicle, but doesn't warrant the pricetag.
Nice Review Jeff! The kiddos will love all those movies for sure!!! This is a pass for me, I like the concept but the price point is a hurdle. Enjoy the collection and glad to see Disney recognizing one of our Voices of Physical Media!!!👍
I don’t need a huge fancy-schmancy box I just wanna know if there will be a 4K Box Set release of all their classics in a nice sized affordable version box set I can fit on my shelf next to my other 4K’s, Blu-Rays & DVD’s?
I agree with you, a live action set on Blu would be nice! 20000 Leagues, Swiss Family Robinson, even That Darn Cat! (they do have good prints on DVD ,but a Blu upgrade would be nice, some might be in "Restoration" mode though). The feature junkie in me would want them to get together with Leonard Maltin and sort out getting his legacy features on home media again (they live on DVD that go for crazy money on the second hand market). And get all the shorts and silly symphonies out on physical again, though I am more than happy that they have slowly been putting them up on D+ over the last few years :) Thanks for the solid and honest review, Jeff!
Thx for the informative review 🤩 i dont have time to read every comment so sorry if im repeating someone 👍 i noticed one corner of the box was crunched a bit and if i had bought that at the full price i wouldn't be able to deal with a crunched box corner and would insist on returning it for a replacement... i also noticed some gray smudges ( ? ) on one of the pages as you flipped thru it.. that would also drive me insane for that price 😬 i know you received it as a promotional item, but love to hear your thoughts and others on tolerance of small dinks and dents like these.. thx
Congratulations on getting this set for free from Disney. Me, I'm not gonna spend $1500 when I own the vast majority of these movies already, including a lot of them on 4K; the only exclusives here are Pooh's Heffalump Movie and the crystal mouse ears. And being from Walmart's home state of Arkansas, I have a feeling Sam Walton might be turning over in his grave over his chain selling this.
I’ve been desperately waiting for this video!! Have you had a chance to compare which version of disks they are? Lilo and Stich - original or friend edit? Full version of make mine music? Did they create new disks for the Rescuers’ films?
If the 57 Film Collection version of Lilo and Stitch from 2019 is of any indication, I imagine it'll be the edited version where Lilo hides inside a pizza box rather than the washing machine.
There should be 4K discs for that price where available. At a minimum there should be a 4K box set. If this works out, maybe other movies will get a 4K scan and box set release.
I didn't think that Disney's Wish was all that good, but you would think they would include that in the 100th anniversary box set as that movie is their 100th anniversary animated film???
Hi this is really great video review of the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, I have a question for the digital code does that also work for the Disney Insider Movie Reward points and second question once we add the code is all the movies on the movie anyhwere app?
I quickly went over to my collection and counted: 45 animated movies from Disney and Pixar are on 4K. ^^ When people think something is selling out it's more likely to sell out ... from what I'm hearing.
Thanks for the review. After seeing it and the lazy subpar packaging I would only be interested in the $300-$400 range. At $1500 I will gleefully never think about buying this.
The only way I would ever consider paying such an outrageous price is if it included EVERYTHING in Disney’s back catalogue and even then I’d have to give it serious thought before buying.
Considering that Disney Blu-rays are all 15-20 bucks, $1500 isn't that bad considering all the movies are included and you get the crystal mickey ears.
I love collecting but no words can be said to justify that price tag for me. I guess I’ll just have to hope I become the next Jeff Bezos just so I can continue collecting.
I imagine this was made only for the biggest of fans that wanted a nice way to store a large Disney collection. I can’t imagine anyone else buying this, it seems very overpriced as well as cheaply made given the price. They prob have like a 1000% mark up if not more.
Here’s a idea for all adults Whining like children. If you can’t afford it then don’t buy it. It really is that simple. If you want it, then buy it. Jeff you did a great job once again.

Cool review! However, who the hell has 1500 just to spend on a boxset? Who is that big of a Disney fan to buy this? Cardboard sleeves too? Nah, not even worth it, even if I had the money for it.
It’s too bad a lot of these movies aren’t individually available outside of the DMC. Like why can’t I buy Goofy Movie on its own? Everyone loves that movie it’d sell
This collection looks cool, but I'm with you about not liking the cardboard sleeves for storing these. If I hadn't already bought the ones I care about on Blu-ray over the years I'd probably be getting this. Seems fair for the amount of movies and all of them with a digital copy. There's only a couple of Disney movies in this set and a few others not in this set that I haven't updated to Blu-ray, but I have them on DVD. I'm probably going to just get those five movies on blu-ray sometime while they're available and call my classic Disney/Pixar blu-ray collection done. I'm collecting certain Disney classics on 4K as they are being released and still have the Pixar titles from Toy Story up to The Good Dinosaur that I want to upgrade to 4K at some point, but at the moment I have too many irons in the fire, so to speak, with other 4K & Blu-ray releases coming out and even a few DVD sets I still want to get before they're gone. I just hope the 4K's don't go OOP before I can get them. I'm thinking DVD and Blu-ray would likely go OOP first being the older technology so I've prioritized them first on my 'to get' list. Especially with no guarantee that those I'm referring to would be released on 4K Blu-ray anytime soon, if ever. Thanks for taking the time to show this set, though. It looks like something I'd buy if I didn't already have the ones I care about. Plus, one of those I haven't bought yet is being released on 4K Blu-ray sometime in quarter 1 of 2024 (Fantasia) so I'm holding out for it. Great video! 👍🏻👍🏻 Have a Happy New Year!
Not sure how this is a Walmart exclusive. After seeing reports about the set coming out, I got an e-mail from the Disney movie club advertising it there (Several months ago now). The e-mail also stated that the set would count as only TWO of the four purchases needed to become a premium member and it was strictly limited to THREE units per membership. Even if I had the money to toss at this, I have everything I want here on either Blu or 4K.
Why do you keep saying they are almost sold out? If they were truly almost sold out they wouldn’t be selling out free $1500 sets to UA-camrs to promote something that is already almost sold out
Exactly what I thought. My assumption is because it arrived at Jeff's house with a note saying, "You can keep this pile of over-priced tat as long as you emphasise several times that it's selling incredibly well!"
A box set of all Disney+ Star Wars Season 1, Like say a Season 1 box set where you get Andor Season 1, Ahsoka Seaon 1, Mando Season 1, Bad Batch Season 1, Visions Season 1, Obi-Wan Season 1, Rebels Season 1, Clone Wars Movie + Clone Wars Season 1, and Resistance Season 1. That's a set if you priced it at say 300 bucks would sell like hot cakes. Release a Season set every 2 years, so other series can catch up and also replace series' that only say lasted 2 years or 4 years.
No thank you! I already have almost all of the Disney animated films on VHS, thank you very much! I’m not going to spend $1,500 for this massive 100-disc collection. Disney+ is my best bet to watch whether I want than buying this very expensive set. If I do, I will burn them onto DVD-R’s instead.
It's a nice box set but the content has already been released. For the price, it should have been something like the Disney Treasure tin sets upgraded to Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray. Now that would have been something special and worthy of the price tag.
Maybe that $1500 price point is Disney's way of celebrating the $1.5bn their films have lost them this year... This is in no way an accusation, but I wonder if Jeff was asked to mention several times how well this is selling. Perhaps it really is. Weird.
You call out Marvel at the end, but they did do a Infinity Saga boxset with all of the first 20 movies together in one boxset. Star Wars did the Skywalker Saga boxset but nothing yet for the rest of the TV shows.
makes me realize how much money I've wasted on buying movies, both physical and digital over the last 10 years. It's ridiculous. You don't realize it when you are buying $5 digital sales or $9 4k sales. But it adds up.
If that mickey was diamonds, then i would pay 1500. Pretty crazy that this is from a company that wants to back out of physical media. Seems like they're just trying to get rid of their stock. As a graphic designer, i really hate this way too minimalistic look. And dont they know discs get scratched like this?
If this had been the complete set of Walt Disney Feature Animation films, without any of the filler, and in 4K, I would have jumped on it for sure. As it is, this is an easy pass for me.

Thank you for your review on this set, it’s awesome you got to do a review of it.
There's plenty of people that don't care that much about 4K for cartoons
@@chrisjfox8715 , and if you truly think of Disney animated movies as "cartoons", I don't believe you are giving them the respect they deserve. Those animated movies, particularly the older ones, can often involve even more time in human resources and investment than live action films. Regardless, if you're going to invest that kinda money, don't you want the product to be presented in the best way possible? Kinda like going to BMW with $250K and walking out with a VW. Nice enough vehicle, but doesn't warrant the pricetag.
Congrats on getting this crazy opportunity.
AMAZING!!! congrats man, great box!!
This disney box set is also kind of like the universal 100th anniversary bluray box set from 2012
Nice Review Jeff! The kiddos will love all those movies for sure!!! This is a pass for me, I like the concept but the price point is a hurdle. Enjoy the collection and glad to see Disney recognizing one of our Voices of Physical Media!!!👍
Fabulous job showing it off and describing it. Well deserved. 🎉
@@GondarthThat’s why I still have 2013 Blu-ray which still have the film uncut. I watch that version the most if I want to see it uncut.
Would be nice if they had a cheaper version with only the movies for around $800.
Come back to me when the boxset is at $500. Not $1500, but $500.
That’s the price where I’d consider buying the set.
There should be 4K discs for that price where available. At a minimum there should be a 4K box set. If this works out, maybe other movies will get a 4K scan and box set release.
Did you get song of the south ?
Nope he didn’t, you can see in his review, it should be in Vol. 1 and it’s not.
You assume the digital codes will still work in the future.
Those digital codes are likely worth 150 DMI points each, which is equal to $1.50 (roughly). Another $150 value.
It should've been on VHS. That would be something lol
I quickly went over to my collection and counted: 45 animated movies from Disney and Pixar are on 4K. ^^
When people think something is selling out it's more likely to sell out ... from what I'm hearing.
4K wise, it should at least be on par with what's already available on Disney+. It feels like they didn't care to do the extra work.
Thanks for the review. After seeing it and the lazy subpar packaging I would only be interested in the $300-$400 range. At $1500 I will gleefully never think about buying this.
1500 bucks ouch that’s a hard sell for most. I wonder how many of them they made?
The only way I would ever consider paying such an outrageous price is if it included EVERYTHING in Disney’s back catalogue and even then I’d have to give it serious thought before buying.
For $1500 they need a volume 4,the Hollywood movies Crimson Tide etc..
Considering that Disney Blu-rays are all 15-20 bucks, $1500 isn't that bad considering all the movies are included and you get the crystal mickey ears.
1500 bucks. Absolute insanity. Maybe 500 would be fair.
I love collecting but no words can be said to justify that price tag for me. I guess I’ll just have to hope I become the next Jeff Bezos just so I can continue collecting.
Disney pricing is always a joke these days.
I have most of these already. That being said, if you’re a mega fan and want a showpiece for your collection it looks Amani g
I bet a good amount of the digital downloads are 4k.
Congrats on landing such an amazing Exclusive! Disney chose well.
I imagine this was made only for the biggest of fans that wanted a nice way to store a large Disney collection.
I can’t imagine anyone else buying this, it seems very overpriced as well as cheaply made given the price. They prob have like a 1000% mark up if not more.
That’s exactly who it’s for. Like I said, they know it’s not for everyone.
Here’s a idea for all adults Whining like children. If you can’t afford it then don’t buy it. It really is that simple. If you want it, then buy it. Jeff you did a great job once again.
I hate disney so I wouldn't want this at all but $1,500 is bonkers.
@@joshallen8397 Gross company that skates by because they make "family friendly" entertainment. I knew a guy who used to work in the park too as one of the performers and they don't treat their employees well. They also tend to buy what's popular, put their spin on it and ruin it. Creatively bankrupt entertainment company.
Awesome video man 😎!
I would of bought right away if it was in 4k for $1500, I feel like eventually most of those movies will get a 4k release someday.
Cool review! However, who the hell has 1500 just to spend on a boxset? Who is that big of a Disney fan to buy this? Cardboard sleeves too? Nah, not even worth it, even if I had the money for it.
Quite the shame they didn't include the current 4K discs
Today, I’m happy to be broke.
Interesting set, not my thing but glad to see it
It’s too bad a lot of these movies aren’t individually available outside of the DMC.
Have a Happy New Year!
This box should have "Song of the South" for collectors.
Are the digital codes for those available in 4k?
I have a number of these Disney movies in my collection. Got them for $3 each at the local pawn shop…
I wonder how many of these did they make? They’ll be lucky to sell a 1500 at that 1500$ price point.
Maybe that $1500 price point is Disney's way of celebrating the $1.5bn their films have lost them this year... This is in no way an accusation, but I wonder if Jeff was asked to mention several times how well this is selling. Perhaps it really is. Weird.
I already have them all and all the sequels.
Should of been in 4k for that price
You call out Marvel at the end, but they did do a Infinity Saga boxset with all of the first 20 movies together in one boxset.
Star Wars did the Skywalker Saga boxset but nothing yet for the rest of the TV shows.
did they use the old oof blu-ray cinderella transfer?
makes me realize how much money I've wasted on buying movies, both physical and digital over the last 10 years.
