We had to do this conversion with our crib when my youngest son learned to scale his crib. Our crib didn't have a partition bit so we just left it open as a toddler bed. If you ever have to work with Allen keys again, I'd highly recommend getting a T handle Ball and Hex driver set. They work on Allen key screws, but are much easier to use.

Hey, Tom, I noticed you guys have those window shutters in Buzz's room. I'd strongly urge you to get a different type of curtain -- it's a MASSIVE strangulation hazard for children!!! Especially now that he's big enough to move about the room (when you're not necessarily in there with him).
I agree, my son put the string around his neck and nearly strangled himself, him and his sister had gotten out of bed early and were being quiet (which usually means trouble) if he sister hadn't been there he would've been dead. she saved him.
My little one was 18 months when he started climbing out of his cot 🙈 so my husband converted it to the toddler bed, and then about a week later when taking him to bed he sat on the bed and broke it 🙄so we quickly had to get another for the toddler. And yes, we've done the sleeping on the floor next to the toddler too. So much fun!
Tom no one dad,mom, Husband or wife is meant to be good at putting that stuff together. Something always breaks...I recently put a microwave stand together and almost broke the doors. I couldn't figure out how to put a hinge on a door.
A lot of kids find it hard to fall asleep without someone close by. At one point, my mum made me sleep in the same bed as my sister because she could only sleep through the night with someone holding her hand. It gets real old, real quick.
I used to sneak into my parent's bed every night until they started taking turns on my floor. They were relieved when I grew out of it, only to discover that my little brother is exactly the same as me, as was my little sister.... I feel bad about it now haha, floors aren't comfortable.

They might tie the string up so that buzz can't reach it at night.
It's not just the drawstrings but the shades, themselves, since they also consist of strings that a child could get caught in.
