- A chapter once considered unthinkable was just penned by Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia region. The British Challenger 2 tank, undefeated in combat for three decades, finally faced its first defeat in 30 years. Russian troops stand as the first army in the world to send the famously tough British tank to its grave, just weeks after Ukraine deployed the 14 gifted tanks to the Battle of Robotyne. Footage from the battlefield circulating last Monday exposed the burned remnants of a tank near Robotyne village, close to Zaporizhzhia. This location has been a focal point for Kyiv's offensive against Moscow's defenses. The video, allegedly filmed by a fleeing Ukrainian soldier during an artillery barrage, showed flames engulfing the tank's sides and thick black smoke billowing from its turret. While the turret's shape is similar to other tanks, the distinct thermal-jacketed L30 gun and rear-mounted external fuel containers seen in the video lead experts to identify the tank as a Challenger 2.

Big deal. It's a great tank, but it's still just a tank. Its tracks can be disabled, or artillery can render the machine functionally destroyed. The crew likely survived, _THAT'S_ a big deal. But it's a tank in the front-lines with lots of mines and artillery... _this was inevitable._

Challenger 2 only entered UK service in 1998! So how was it undefeated for 3 decades? Also, before Ukraine, the last Challenger 2 lost was back in 2003 - 20 years ago. Lazy journalism!

Challenger has seen action in third world countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Iraq, Russia another 3rd world country is next. Russia has lost 2000+ tanks and this is why Russia is sabre rattling with Nukes.🤣

When you look at the history of armored combat, the crew surviving is in fact a success criteria. Yes, survivability of the tank is desirable, but saving the crew means you still retain a trained crew along with whatever combat experience they posses. It's also interesting that the loss of a single Challenger II is considered news worthy and somehow proof of dispelling superiority of Western tanks when hundreds of Russian tanks litter battlefields from Ukraine to the Middle East.
The difference is Russians didn't propagate their tanks as a "game changer" or "drive right through the defense line" or "the wonder weapon" So when this weak ass tank got rekt and ass whooped it's bound to get publicity. Western propagandist shouldnt have peddle lies and hype the worthless shit tanks. Anyway the next game changer Abrams will burn too when they are send in.
Success? The crew will be living with PTSD for the rest of their miserable lives and will drag their family members along with them.

Nobody said anything about a decisive victory, that's hyperbole on your part. One tank was destroyed, the crew survived, and some how that's an indication of what? That Russian tanks and tactics are at least on par with the West, possible superior? GTFO! Russian doctrine relies on numbers as cannon fodder to overwhelm and win the war of attrition. That's why their tanks don't protect their crews, because Russian doctrine sees the tank and the crew as expendable. Just look at the numbers of Russians killed in a conflict where Russia should have steam rolled. And yet, Moscow doesn't care. They are expendable. They will just send more and more and more, until they overwhelm. But hey! Great victory for Russia destroying an immobilized tank where the crew survived and was long gone.

I think the M1 Abrams may end up like those Leopard 2s. With today’s modern weaponry no armored vehicles are safe.
Abrams is slightly less armored than the challenger, it is more or less inevitable, and expected, thats why NATO countries are making new variants for their mbts
How can it be the first in 30 years ? It only entered service in 98, unless you are counting chalenger one, they entered service in the 80s so then it is more likefirst loss in 40 years.
I suggest to the British before you send more tanks to Ukraine that you teach them what ground maneuver is and don't do ground maneuver without motorized infantry.

So artillery, likely a 155MM round defeated a tank. This is not earth shattering. The good news is (from the video) all crew escaped and are alive which is testament to the tank's survivability. If this was a T-72 or T-90 the turret would have, "Turret Tossed" with no survivors. Well done UK, from America.

The Challenger 2 lost a track due to an anti Tank mine. One of the fuel Paniers were ignited. The Crew got out. Then later it was hit by an advanced drone.

No chance to any crew to survive, Ch2 was abandoned before..from upper video both hatches were trown in the air and the turret is also moved from the initial place...and the “Kornet's” warhead is substantially more powerful and has a discharge range of twice as far than Javelin
For those that say the crew didn't survive I'm simply going off the video where it's stated multiple times that the crew survived. (I suppose the UK Defense Minister could have been lying, but simply going off the video.).
Apparently it was hit by the turret of a T72 blown up the day before coming back down to earth.

In combat? No nutcracker. Both sides lost submarines during the Cold War due to accidents but not due to combat.
How can you brag about having a tank more survivable than the Soviets when you still store ammo in the crew compartment like the Soviet designs?
cannons were two-piece because it was deemed to make a 120 mm cartridge easier to handle within the turret confines, easier to stow in the limited stowage available, and safety since the explosive shells and propellent can be stored in water jacket stowage in the hull where they are less likely to be hit while kinetic energy penetrators like APFSDS shells can be stored in the turret without risk of catastrophic detonations.
This challenger was the export version, stripped of most of the composite armour.
Orc tanks on the other hand launch towards the moon when hit, this challenger was also salvageable

This challenger however can be repaired and put back in action in a few months. Orc crews don't even get the chance to get out of their tank when hit, they are sent to the moon with turret lol

The British news doesn’t make sense the tank carry 4 people, 6 people won’t fit in the tank.
Also there was information all the 4 crew died in the tank and destruction of this scale on tank there will be no survivors in this tank.
The point is this tank is another tank just like any other tank. It can be destroyed, it burns like any tank and it can destroy targets on the battlefield and it can also be destroyed by other tanks or any weapons systems designed to destroy tanks.

I don't think there is a tank in the world that can withstand a $300 drone. Crazy. Earlier the Western press boasted that you don't destroy these beefy Western MBT with drones. I watched a russian made movies about a tank battle. Just before the war broke out. Well he tried to make it a fast tank battle. But the Ukraine 🇺🇦 change tank war , battleship air and ground take note . And I've seen brave nations come together in a show of solidarity in a fight for world peace. Main Battle Tanks are no longer useful due to the many types of anti-tank weapons, Himars systems and, for example, advanced artillery shells.
Even with a new advanced tank, for example, the track falls off when it drives over a mine and then becomes an obstacle that is difficult to recover.
Simply put, things are not going as planned. Maybe it's time to put the weapons down and talk.
