Wow incredible footage, yeah I remember November was very wet, didn't do much drone flying but I visited Bennerley viaduct in December just before Christmas and got some flood footage over the viaduct but it wasn't as bad as that, you could still make out the course of the river but the field either side was very flooded. 👍😎
Wow that was just fantastic. Seeing all that water you have and this side of the world we are burning all over country, we are in terrible drought too. Loved video. Thanks for taking me along
@@TrekkingExploration I definitely will. My desire is to see all of your past videos. When that is accomplished, will stay current with your new ones as they arrive. What is your first name? Very good video, I always find Shipley gate a very impressive area to watch the river in full flood from, went today, highest I’ve seen the river levels in 20 years
Trekking & Towpaths it was pretty high in your video, but I believe the levels today were even higher than that, which will happen especially after the rain we’ve had of late
Thanks for that fella, I carried out all the safety clearance work for the electric board years ago when you were at the place with the old bridge over the railway, it’s a beautiful little spot in the summer and such a contrast to see it like that👍🏴
It fascinates me just how powerful rivers in flood are and the need for flood plains. The Trent & Mersey Canal crosses the River Trent near Alrewas - I was there a few years ago and seeing the flooded fields and the force of river water rushing along the canal was definitely something. It's a good job the canal towpath was high enough above the water level that I could actually get across!
I took one of the last trains from Derby to Matlock on the 14th & going over & next to the Derwent was intense. I tried to get pics from the train, but it was raining. Yikes! Great video!
I tried to get to Matlock that weekend and it was almost impossible. No trains, no buses from Chesterfield or Derby either. All clear i went on Wednesday but you could see how high the derwent has been
That is a huge amount of water, I agree totally with Chris McCartney, we should be looking to store at least some of this water for future use in times of drought. We have had horrendous amounts of rain in Lincolnshire, the Short Ferry flooding that has been on the national news is literally 10 minutes from my village, the farmer can't do anything with his land for a year at least. It's interesting when you say that it has been worse in previous years, the way some people like to argue it you'd think this was a new phenomenon.
20.10.23 - new height record set on the River Erewash the footbridge at the start of the video, water was running across this, Shipley gate is even more impressive though, it's high but imagine it being up another 8inches from when your video was filmed
I went to bennerley today expecting to see loads of flood water the Erewash has dropped now. One of the old concrete bridges have collapsed below the Viaduct
I lived in Trowell from 1983 - 2001, the worst i experienced it was in 2000, the water was flowing over the railway and meeting the canal on the other side. Also have many happy memories of spending time at this bridge 😀
@@TrekkingExploration It was my grandparents who used to live in Trowell. I would happily spend my summer and christmas holidays here. I could never go home happy without taking a walk across the Trowell Boards and the railway bridge. But like you, these too are happy memories for me. 😊
Bit of a difference from last visit. We get floods that we never had before because they keep building everywhere with no thought that water follows a line of least resistance - put a housing estate in its way and it'll back up and flood🤔 Can we have a look over the fence at Toton please?!!!!!
We need to treat water as resource rather than a nuisance when too much in winter and drought in summer.. Can we not dig pits and washes and slow its rush to the sea....
The power of water and very topical at the moment with all the flooding going on ....Thanks Ant Another Great Video...Frank & Lee..
Wow incredible to see the area around the viaduct compared to when we were there in Summer

@@TrekkingExploration Thank you for the reply. Enjoy the week ahead, Marty.
glad that you didn't get stuck anywhere in all this flooded section! thanks!
I only walked it as i know the area so well. Anywhere else i probably would not have risked it :)
Another good video Ant, lovely to see the area again,🤗 its known for the floods in this area,

@@Addie6005 thank you. I'm off tomorrow so am thinking of doing another along a different stretch of the river 😀

Its frightening to see a little river have so much anger. It is lovely along there

Is that the section where the boats go on the Trent for a couple hundred yards and the towpath occasionally goes over little bridges?
@@TrekkingExploration That's the place. It looks completely different when the river isn't in flood!

Back in 2001, the railway at the footbridge has water flowing over it and into the Erewash Canal it was extremely bad.
Wow I never got to see all that. And it is always weird watching somebody filming in a area I am so familiar with.
I just had too, growing up in Trowell i remember all the times it happened. It has been a little worse before but not much more

7:34 I used to walk through this area to watch trains from the footbridge when I was a child. I've have never seen it flooded this badly before. 😲😲

I was gonna fly over Toton a bit but for the rain 😔
did you get upto Langly mill?
Interesting to see how the rivers flood and give it ten years and all that flood plain will be built on
Hopefully not. I don't think they could touch the Bennerley or Trowell area it seems to happen every year
@@TrekkingExploration they build on these places and are then surprised when they flood. Anyway keep the videos coming always good to watch
Thanks Stephen. Keep an eye out for the usual Saturday slot 😉
you missed out Doncaster which got hit badly this time round
That's a lot of water which I presume will flow into the River Trent
It certainly does, sadly i lost the light to get any further

Especially for those years like the long dry 2018. They'll always keep coming back
