As an obese woman, I hate the fat acceptance movement so much. I needed a long time to accept that I was unhealthy and this year I started to do something about it, because I started to be so miserable with myself that I couldn't stand it anymore. And yes, my doctor telling me that my pysical and mental health issues are all linked to my obesity was an eye opener as well.

I was obese a few years ago and my physical and mental health suffered horribly so I lost weight, about 60lbs, now I eat better and exercise regularly. It's not easy but the benefits are amazing and I honestly feel like a new person. I found a lovely woman to be with, I cut the grass at my local church for exercise and try my hardest to eat properly but yeh it's hard work. Being fat was easy for me but life isn't always about easy is it?? Keep up the good work, you'll get there eventually and feel better for it👍👍👍👍👍

Congrats. The thing about humans is, we won't change until we reach that mental point where we just can't take it anymore. I believe the people at AA refer to it as being, "Sick and tired of always being sick and tired"
The problem is, often people don't get there till its too late. I'm really struggling with that myself (tho, with things other than weight).
Keep up the good work :)

I was literally that woman talking about “freeing herself from beauty standards” years ago. And boyyyy do I feel like shit about myself now. Like uglier than I ever have. I’m just reteaching myself basic femininity and it feels so liberating.
There’s a line between “I don’t need to wear makeup 24/7 to be or feel beautiful; my worth is beyond my looks” and “I WILL NEVER WEAR MAKEUP AGAIN BECAUSE ITS OPPRESSIVE AND I DEMAND THAT NO ONE LOOK AT ME.”

    • @JoJo-fan-right-here

I’m still a child (13) but I’ve always been a bit chubby and I saw the fat acceptance movement in its early days a few years ago and I’d think “if they say I’m pretty no matter what why don’t I feel pretty?”
10 year old me spittin facts. I didn’t feel pretty because I didn’t look pretty! I’ve worked on my fashion, hair, and I wear a bit of makeup now (lipgloss changes your whole face I swear) and I feel pretty! Of course I need to have my switch and 3ds for a confidence boost (can’t do shi without Mariokart I swear) but other than that, I feel like a much better person.
If I had believed the fat acceptance mfs I would be a fat lil ugly girl and I’d definitely get bullied.
The thing with bullying and being called ugly is that it only hurts if you think you’re ugly. Ugly used to hurt but now it doesn’t because I know I’m pretty with just a bit of lipgloss and the girls calling me ugly have 2 pounds of makeup on.
It doesn’t hurt to have your appearance insulted when you know you’re pretty. Having a group of people to coddle you and say you’re pretty when you’re very unhealthy isn’t good!
When you have to go out in the real world and those people aren’t there with you, all of the security and happiness goes away.
You have to find happiness in yourself and not with others. Only then will you feel pretty.

    • @DonnaBrooks

"Basic femininity" has nothing to do with makeup or clothes. There are women who look feminine in jeans & a flannel shirt. There are women who are attractive without makeup. I'm as much a woman as some woman wearing makeup. I do like long hair & I used to dress better than I do now that I'm older. Not skirts or dresses, but not jeans, either. Nice casual. From my experience, when I have felt attractive, I am attractive to other people. So much of it has to do with how one carries oneself, with how warm & friendly one is, how optimistic & enthusiastic one is, how much confidence one has. Where that comes from is different for each woman because we are all unique.

For the no-spend tiktok I agree that it will get you pretty much nowhere. I've personally found it's much more effective to instead setup a "cooldown" period to reduce impulse buys and FOMO purchases. Basically if you see something unnecessary that you want to purchase especially something that's ~5% or more of your monthly income and/or ~10% of your total savings wait for at least 3 days before allowing yourself to purchase it. I found myself often forgetting about the item or realizing I didn't need it during this waiting period. This includes items on sale.

Like I'm in therapy right now with the stated goal of getting my morning routine back in swing. Not gonna lie though it's nearly 1pm and I'm just getting up. I love that you acknowledge that a reason because you think these people are weird is because you simply have a very different views on things, I think more people should try looking at other people with that same mindset. I wish you would also recognize that words they use and issues they talk about might be different than how you use words and what issues you've had throughout your life. For example when the girl was talking about beauty, u said that ur parents never made beauty such a big deal, but a lot of people grew up being taught that beauty is a big deal and for them it is important to break free from that and sharing that on tiktok can help other people who grew up that way to also break free of the mindset that beauty is such a big thing. I also think that ur meaning of "productivity" and "no spend month" is simply different from there's, I think to them productivity is a word that relates only to work and money, while for u productivity also includes other things and the meaning of that word changes their whole message.

I think she was talking about changing long term spending habits and changing your mindset vs. trying to do it for a month, it probably depends on the person but I understand her logic. One month of trying to spend less money isn't going to help a lot of people who are prone to spending too much money, especially if they've never thought about it and wouldn't be able to just suddenly spend less, like you were able to do. It doesn't automatically occur to them what they want vs. need.

This is important. In my weight loss journey (50 lbs) one of the BIGGEST things that really powered me through it was guilt. Whenever I messed up and ate too much or ate something unhealthy, the feeling of guilt and failure light a fire under my ass to compensate for it and go harder with my change of lifestyle. The issue is these new generations want a safety bubble for anything that doesn't feel great. And you need balance in your life. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and if that good thing is unhealthy foods and snacks, you do need to feel something negative towards it. Be it shame, guilt. It makes you own up to it and gives you the opportunity to make a change.

Honestly, I see the point in the video at 7:30 ish. Doing something like a resolution must come from something you value and something you want to achieve. Just so that in the end you know that you did something good this year, be it charity or losing weight or whatever

I pretty much had to go on a “no spend challenge” around half a year ago now. I’m 17, living with my parents and struggling with chronic illness. Was in a better spot last year, so much so that I was feeling well enough to land a dream job even if it was just part time whilst going to school. Ironic considering when I landed that job I was hospitalized the week before. It gave me such hope and something to look forward too. I lost that in I don’t even remember now, July, maybe? I could no longer handle the physical demand from the job because of the amount of pain it caused. The pain being so bad that it overshadowed the joy and excitement I felt from the independence of earning my own money and not having to rely on my parents for everything. I’m back to having to rely on them, and now that it’s not my money I’m spending, I’m hyper aware of the prices of the simplest things like spices and vegetables for a dinner I want to make. I don’t buy things just because they catch my eye now, I have to think it through and decide: is it worth it, and even if it is, is it necessary, can I wait until it’s my money I’m spending. It isn’t at all an awful thing to be aware of how much you’re spending and what you’re spending it on. The better you watch your finances, the better you are at saving for things you need, or hell, even just a “fun money” pile for when you want to treat yourself. It brings things into perspective and helps limit the impulsive purchases that you end up forgetting about later. I’d say try it. Not even for a month, just a week, and it will help you budget better in the future and make more informed purchases.

I can kind of agree with the productivity girl. Like at the end of the day the things you do should be for a purpose, you should be acting in ways that get you closer or put you on track to reach your long term goals. Me for example, I took a job that’s full-time working afternoon into night with the best pay I’ve ever gotten. I hate the job tbh and every day I’m in pain and exhausted. But this job makes me a decent amount of money which I need to pay rent, my credit card, my car insurance, my groceries, gas, utilities etc. I also need it so that I can start taking classes on Sophia for extra college credits. I’m going to college online to finally get the bachelors degree that I’ve always wanted and I’m making that an extremely high priority pretty much above everything including work a little bit. So I have a couple hours when I get home from work to shower, do laundry and hang out for a minute before going to bed. Then when I wake up I have about 2.5 hours before I have to leave for work. I’ve had to figure out how to fit time in to do my work for college, have down time, eat, shower, do some chores, and get 8 hours of sleep. So I’ve had to stop myself from goofing off when so wake up in the mornings and focus on my schoolwork until it’s time to leave. It’s a bit of a challenge for me because in the past I would just lay in bed the entire time and then go to work and complain later that there’s not enough time for me to do anything. But that is just an excuse, I’ve caught myself in my series of excuses and started to hold myself accountable. “No you have enough time in the morning but you actually have to get out of bed and you can’t go on your phone.” Or you can get the chores done but you waste 4-5 hours at night watching videos of scrolling through social media. I have e-learning to do at work while also doing hands on training and being overwhelmed with all the information and complex timing, extremely high standards etc. and by the end of the night my mind *is* shot so I can’t focus properly to study but that’s not an excuse. I do chores and act productively in ways that don’t require much thinking (after giving myself a break for an hour maybe two). It’s not rocket science but to me I feel like a genius hacking my life lol because for all of my life especially the past couple of years I’ve never really pushed myself that hard and never tested my limits and experimented with what I was actually capable of. I’d quit on a whim, give up when things got a bit too hard, etc. I was one of these leftists up until 2 years ago after my bf “corrupted” me😂. I’ve wasted so much time and have gotten myself so far from my big 5 goals in life and now I’m working overtime to redirect my life. I thought I would have to go on SSD, that’s what my old therapist told me, she believed that it might be for the best and I could’ve easily gotten whatever letters I wanted from her but didn’t want to resign myself to the same destiny as my mother. I dare these people to actually dig in and fight for something.

I hear what is being said in the second last (I think) video and agree to an extent because yes spoiling yourself is important, and I am saying this as someone who has only just learned spoiling yourself is a form of love, but it is not an everyday thing. You need to spoil yourself when you are having an awesome day or going through something amazing because that is when you will enjoy what you are spoiling yourself with more, BUT you should also spoil yourself sometimes when you had a hard day where you made it through and got out happy at the end. Now I know a lot of people will say but that is everyday but it is not and you will hurt your mental health by thinking "But I deserve this every day" because it is not about deserving it it is about you showing yourself some self-love. Sorry for any toes I stepped on
