Since stepping down as president, he has become an elder statesman and is called upon by international bodies, such as the United Nations, to be an envoy and negotiator in hotspots across Africa. He is the recipient of the inaugural Prize for Achievement in African Leadership by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. He is Joaquim Chissano, former President of Mozambique.

As far as I am concerned and being Mozambican, I would say Joaquim Chissano was Smart president who always try to govern through dialogue which was not easy in Mozambique itself at the past time. and I could sight that dialogue is one of the best way get an agreement either ways. Keep guiding us as Mozambican youths at all.
