Basically after that, there was supposed to be one more arc that tied everything together (death of the akatsuki, the Bee situation, Naruto and Sasuke's final battles, etc.) Perriot refused and that's how we got the fourth great ninja war. Kishimoto only wrote the first five (I could be wrong about the number) chapters of Boruto (the Chunin exam stuff with momoshiki) but of course this still wasn't enough, so Kishimoto just gave the responsibility of creating the rest of it to Ikemoto.
Did you even understand the skit? It's the studio forcing the author to stretch out his show. In reality Kishimoto didn't want Boruto but saw the studio was going to do it anyways so he handed it over to his assistant.

I think the best spin offs are where they’re in the same world but maybe only met in passing or are decades apart. You don’t destroy the original MC and get to explore more of the world.
