Simple solution to the "It hasn't touched Aku" problem: widen the vertical shaft and then have him step into there!
Eh, the thing is that there is a product touched by Aku already involved; doesn't need to be directly from him, else they'd have to eat sulfur and methane directly, instead of consuming something that uses it in some way.

@@kennyholmes5196 The methane dumped into the nat gas geyser was just to provide enough nat gas initially for the gas stove, which the geyser and fertilizer station will otherwise produce sufficiently for it. No need to go further.

This is official the industrial McDonalds of this ONI play-through. The entire base depends on drive through food fed by rocket powered deliveries all going back to a little 1 kilo of AKU farts from off-world. Beautiful level of complexity.
He could just ship them into a liquid lock vacuum cell already deep frozen, unless they changed the mechanics again.3 cells spent for infinite food storage.
One step closer to the Dupes becoming self sustaining across multiple planets, I'm so excited for every episode of this series.
One solution for the rocket deep freezing would be to make a cooling module outside of the rockets that uses the fluid ports to dump chill into them on the launch pad.
Maybe you fill the entire ship with insulated pipes full of -200°C super coolant, then have a single radiant pipe behind the food. Every time the ship lands the current batch of coolant is removed and replaced with fresh, pre-chilled coolant, while the old coolant goes off to be re-chilled.
Edit: the exact temperature necessary to keep it from warming up too much on the trip would need to be tested, I just picked -200°C as a Very Cold™ temperature.
The potential issue I see with this is the toilet's water supply. It's a place to start from, though!
I don't think he needs a large amount of coolant inside the rocket. If he uses his automated food storage the food will be isolated from the rest of the rocket. Once food is deep frozen it does not heat up. The only way the food heats up is when more food is added. However food would only be added through conveyor rails when landed. Thus the only time that heat should increase is also when the rocket is connected to the external coolant loop. Thus it should be possible to deep freeze the food while landed and have it stay deep frozen the entire trip.
Francis, I feel like you have a few extra threads in your mental CPU than I do. I'm always so impressed by how well you throw this stuff together. Either that, or you play off how much effort you put into playing this!
Day 7 of reminding everyone to like the video. I hope you do a base fed on spicy tofu. Maybe the lava planet. Hot planet/hot food type of thing.
If the sand is proving an issue, it might be worth just dumping the PW into a steam chamber instead. You have enough of them. It actually seems a little weird to have a base that filters oxygen by liquifying it that doesn't boil water to purify that, particularly when you also have coal so you could crush ceramic to close the deodoriser loop instead. Independence from sieves strikes me as far more important than deodorisers if sand is scarce. I'll use a sieve for the toilets, but if I need clean water industrially I don't really like them. Definitely loving how complicated this one is getting though. Hope it works!
The only things we need sand for is toilets (2kg sand per dupe per cycle), Sleet wheat (6kg per cycle) so with 8 dupes that was 21kg per cycle and we had budget to produce 70kg. So that we have spare sand for glass for rad suit repair. Then they reduced the hunger on poke shells so we now only get 35kg of sand per cycle. That makes me a bit nervous.
would love to see one of the future asteroids get a decor focus put on it as a bit of a theme
After the Industrial planet is online he definitley has some Gold to spare for that

Holy F***ing S***! I had no idea the meter could hook up to itself. I had no idea , and have been having such an issue trying to limit conveyer rails. That one little thing will make everything so much easier. Thank you!

There is a great mod called "Sweep by type" which helps on that sweep task as you can limit types or even specific items you want to sweep.
For the conveyor meter, you should add a switch to keep it on instead of connecting to itself.
If it's connected to itself you'll sometime have a small packet pass through and mess with the next packet as well, while an always on switch will reset it even after the small packet.
CO2 in a steam room is fine as long as there's enough water/steam to crush it all into one blob, as it's much heavier than steam. Then eventually the water dripping in from the turbine will delete that last blob of CO2.
It's actually a nice way to clear out other more troublesome gasses since it's the heaviest gas (bar exotic ones like metallic gasses).

I've seen you have trouble between discerning purple and dark blues and blues.
I thought ONI had a colorblindness mode?

I remember maybe in an oni episode a year or 2 ago, he was complaining about it being hard to differentiate between insulated liquid pipe (purple) and some blue liquid squares. Saying it was the same colour.

For the space capsules you could just set a refrigerator with 1 kilo storage (or however much the dupes will eat per trip), and accept a little rotting, you should have surplus
If the trip takes 7 days plus mining time I'm not sure the burger is going to survive that long. Also how do you automat the loading? You would have to only load the rocket when you need it or else you are going to have food going off in there all the time.
4:45 - Seeing natural tiles being created is one of the most amazing things for me, I love seeing the game mechanics 'harnessed' in these wizardly ways!

For the frost burgers just cool them down to minus 40 or so and throw them in a vacuum tile with a blob of liquid in front. Preferably a weight plate under the food so you can automate it.
Francis I mentioned this few episodes ago but you made a comment 2mins from the end about sand for water filtration and crops. Don’t forget you need glass for rad suits too
Should have waited to put work into my thing until this, anticipating a lot of stuff I had to learn the hard way. Glad I didn't waste any time on a rocket build except some sketching too. In mine I just used some of the excess water to make sludge for the astronaut, can't wait to see a capsule with vacuum sealed burgers
For deep freezing the frost burger inside the Rocket module, you can deep freeze them on the planet and create a vaccum storage place inside the Rocket thereby the temperature of the frost burger shouldn't reduce and throw in a Auto sweeper to bring the food outside of the vaccum storage similar to the ones normally used in the base.

Why don’t u put Aku by a chlorine gas vent and use that for bleach stone, ur already stretching it with rocket, so why not add more of Aku’s blessing instead of using the rocket
The challenge is more about using only the 1kg/s, if all he had to do was put aku in there it would be easy, but this way he has to farm hatches for diamond, which eventually comes back to the methane

Deep freezing burgers on a rocket is such an FJ thing to do. Normal players would just stick in a fridge and something to refill it each mission.
Speaking of which, how do you plan to replenish the oxylite? Remember it has to come from Aku!

since everything you use should be touched by Aku, i suggest you put him into the fertelizer room, so Aku can touch the natural gas from the geyser
Carbon dioxide isn't a problem for steam turbines. It's heavier than steam and the falling water vaporizing to steam will eventually overwrite it. Only gasses that are lighter than steam are a problem (oxygen, polluted oxygen, natural gas, and hydrogen).
Isn't that what volcanologists are trying to do?
Also love the fact that to increase the rads on the waterweed, you had to build the hydro tiles out of uranium ore.
Volcanologists in real life do more of the analysing, less of the taming.
13:45 - heated insulated tile problems: it's a bit exploity but you could replace build the insulated tiles with some other material to take advantage of the 45C construction temperature cap

If I'm not mistaken you don't have to deepfreeze the burgers in the capsule, you can deepfreeze them in the base the store them in a vacuum. You'd just need some clever automation to automate loading the burgers.
Either one of those designs would be very stealable.... I mean inspiring... 🤫
Weight plate inside an insulated tiny box, hooked up to an automation transmitter, could do the job...

Sweep by type is a great quality of life mod that is not overpowered or anything. It allows you to select exactly what you want to sweep and you dupes will only sweep that. I put it on par with the pliers mod with its usefulness.

Your oxygen generator is way more efficient if you disable one of the polluted oxygen pumps. If the thing runs for a prolonged time, it barely needs any cooling.
Once we have 8 dupes on site it will be active a lot more.
XD only a couple of volcanoes. I started on that planet and have 9. I built 1 tamer for 3 metal + 2 magma volcanoes. But I love steam rooms. Does your head in. Hard start that one. No water lots of yuk but thimble reed. Had to make the teleport connected planet into a giant wild farm to support everything.
There is a mod to sweep only the stuff you want.
And get the "Fast track" mod too when you are on it.

Regarding sweeping the coal and sedimentary rock, you could have tagged everything for sweeping, so long as you had no viable location that would accept coal. That'd probably be faster than the 1 by 1 approach.
You could use the frozen methane from aku to cool an infinite food storage in the rocket like you did earlier in the playthrough

Also, the bottom left most copper tile will give you more than it says it will... because there's copper trapped in the copper tile... I am soo glad the game works like that.
For self cooling turbines, CO2 isn't the best medium to extract heat from the turbine building. Easy fixable with a layer of liquid. Or 3 if you're feeling creative.
Agreed, but I figure with enough pressure just about any gas will do. It's like that radioactive box in the sour gas freezer, terrible conductivity but so much of it to make up the difference.
With the steam turbines on the copper volcano you should have blocked 3 of the ports on each turbine to start with, it's the same heat deletion but higher overheat temperature, so less heat going out the top
Good idea but that not how it works. Because you are not deleting heat you convert it to energy so if you want to get the most energy out of it you should block the port regarding to the temp if you only want to cool stuff it’s better to let all ports open. You will get less energy out of it but you will cool down your targeted area faster but as seen in the vid the excess heat that is not converted will disappear as heat in the steam turbine. So as usual it depends on what you want to do. But still a useful hit only a few know.

@@HappyGingerWolf I know that’s why my comment because you provide a great tip but for the wrong purpose. Like I said it depends on what you what cooling or energy. I don’t like to block the ports because it feels cheesy for me but a good way is to block the ports with automatic doors and connect them with individual thermal sensors so that they can close or open the ports depending on the temp to get the most of it.Your method is only more energy efficient because any heat that can’t be converted to energy(I.e maxed out steam turbine )will heat up the steam turbine. With the closed ports you only limit the heat extraction( I.e slower cooling) so that all the heat can convert to energy and heat up the steam turbine. Btw with the doors and automations you can create thermal batteries and get the most out of it.
I can't really see a case for blocking the ports usually, in this instance we had enough cooling to keep up in the end so we got the maximum amount of cooling. If we blocked three ports we would only be putting 800g of 95C water back into the cooling chamber instead of 2kg of 95C water. This was a little riskier I will admit but it got the copper cooled quicker. Now we can break in and turn it into a proper tamer. With three blocked ports we would have been waiting a lot longer.

If you need sand, cook some polluted dirt. You have enough volcanoes to generate all the free heat. Or better yet, send the excess polluted water you're sending to space into one of the volcano tamers. That will cook to dirt, which will cook to sand, and add an auto miner to break up the sand tiles. That way your sand still comes from Aku!
Also, you don't need to loop of ethanol going past the balm lily. the wall it's sharing with the natural gas guyser isn't insulated, so that passive heat from the natural gas will be enough to keep that part of the place warm, and you won't have to risk burst pipes. Or worse, ethanol gas in your chlorine room.
Cooked polluted dirt always turns into glas, which is not useful here.
Composting polluted dirt into dirt, which you then cook, turns it into sand tiles, which are mined at the same 50% loss (and some duplicant labor for the compost)

just cool the frost burgers very cold and put them in a vacuum so they can keep the deep freeze efect, 2 tiles closing a corner can do this, use auto corner extracting into a 1kg freezer so they can eat, i think it will fit on a one duplicant rocket desing if you stress them a little.

Nice episode and awesome Base. For the self-taming Volcano a question: This might be outdated or an error in my memory, but wasn't there something about the thermal capacity of the Steam Turbines atmosphere beeing important?
I had a map with like 10 metal volcanos and i built the same exact 6x7 tamer that Luma Plays made. Very weird to do 3 metal volcanos at a time for a few hours

28:12 It always has been 50% of the consumed mass, even before the update. There is no difference in output material if you compost polluted dirt, and then cook it into sand, followed by mining, compared to pokeshells. You could never have an infinity loop of sand to water sieve to dirt to pokeshell
I explained that badly, It's just that they used to consume 140kg of polluted dirt and produce 70kg of sand per cycle. So now our single pokeshell is only going to give us 35kg so sand so we will be a bit short.

Why not create 4th ranch of slicksters , use co2 geyser and also oxyferns to use up the extra water. Clean up the mess of liquid at the bottom using heat too maybe. Imo this is planet was a lot more entertaining to watch then other because it was so different and you could use even more stuff on it like instead of electrolizer use oxyferns if possible.
Self cooling gold volcano tamers still work, on my spaced out map I have 2 of them, have been running for 1000 cycles without problems
Why use pumps for the CO2? Why not just break a hole into space and let it vent naturally? Or automate some doors that react to the pressure if you want some more control? I had a whole ethanol setup powering one of my bases and I just made a chimney to space to get rid of the CO2.

Out of interest/as an additional challenge, a system to recover rocket exhaust? Probably not too hard but it might give some interesting resources. Also because it might be funny, a thermal exhaust vent.
A rocket chimney? Did that before, it requires an enormous amount of space to be done right. You need a silo from the bottom to the top of the map, crazy amounts of power generation.

Oh, and you need to get cracking on printing and training dupes. You are building all these amazing bases but there isn't anybody to live in them.

Counterpoint, if I leave it closed nothing happens. If it's open it might have an unintended consequence like freezing a pipe, over pressurizing an area with CO2 or something totally unforeseen. So since I see no advantage to keeping it open I err on the side of no worries.

Could you increase UI scale up a bit maybe? It's hard to read if watching from smartphone or TV from a distance.
What is your opinion on the Thermo Regulator? I somehow kept one running constantly cooling hydrogen to -200C and burst the gas pipe. The thermo regulator stayed at a constant 40C. Yes the machine can also cool Oxygen and burst the gas pipe but it's slower.
Very limited use, the aquatuner is way more power efficient. I tend to only use them for food cooling as you can hit low temps ease without freezing a gas in the pipes. But the low heat generation is great early game as you can just dip them in water.

Hey big fan of the ONI content (actually still catching up this series so apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere), but wanted hop in to ask if you've looked at Captain of Industry at all? Recently into open beta. Looks like it could be fun; would be interested to see your take.
I gave it a glance but it looks a bit "rigid" you have to do it the way it's listed. That is not necessarily a bad thing it just does not leave a lot of room for messing about.
is there any reason that the tiles below the rocket are not actively cooled eventually they would overheat anyway
Because it’s not needed the melting point is so high that the play through is long over when this happen. If it even happen ;)
How big can the water Geyser get? I know you aren't on that but I found a 22.6k on my play threw this time how do I ever cool that down let alone pump that out lol

Does not emit radiation, only the blocks and doors do. Things like buildings, temp shift, pipe etc don't give off any rads.
Is there any chance you can make or have a video on a simple minor volcano tamer that can use steel WITHOUT breaking and needing fixing all the time, every video i try ends with a broken auto sweeper or melted conveyor belts
I just hate the -2 athletics debuff on frost burgers, why would they put that on there, it's not like having only the stress reduction would be op or something.
Everyone has 24 athletics from training and skills, we can eat the penalty at this level. It just felt good to engineer burgers out of 1kg of nat gas, the quality and stats were not really considered.
