  • As mentioned in my last city update... I'm starting to flesh out the details of the expansion. Lego train track is probably one of the most difficult things to work into a city. It takes up SOOOOO much space and sometimes ends in odd intervals. It never works out like you think it should in your head, so I laid it out on the floor and have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do and its definitely a little different from my original plan, but I think I actually like this idea better and makes the layout more cohesive while definitely have several distinct units, mostly linked together by the train! Fingers crossed it goes as well as my plan seems to indicate it should...

My name is Travis and I'm an AFOL! I've been serious collecting Lego since 2021. I collect a little bit of everything from Star Wars to Fabuland to Pirates to CMFs. My biggest continual project is my city. The city is currently about 112 baseplates and always in constant evolution. When I started out with the city it was 21 baseplates and I never imagined when I started it would grow to this size. My collection has quickly overtaken my office that I now call the Lego Room. My favorite themes are Vidiyo, Dreamzzz, CMFs, Pirates, and anything I can use in my city.

Something to keep in mind about the trains is the front car overhang on curves. The modern passenger train engine extends past the track a few studs as it rounds curves so your track layout needs to take that into account. Having the back track that close to your wall might not work.

I definitely run all my stuff before sticking it in place. I think it should be okay because I stick mostly to the L gauge standards. It will never be tight to the wall because I have overhead supports I need to have room for. I was running into all kinds of clearance issues in a different part of the city (that I needed up just removing trains all together from there), so I definitely try to be more aware. I’m more concerned about the clearance needed to make the little S turn coming out from under the city and into the loop back… I hate tunneling on turns… so much space needed and you have to cover so far back into the tunnel so you don’t see the supports.

On the new section you talked about putting the treehouse and A frame cabin . Don't forget we have the Camping Adventure set coming in Series 3

Oh that’s a great point!! I didn’t even think to reassess BDP sets coming. It wasn’t relevant to me so I kinda forgot haha

That horrible looking old green train really spoils the look of your nice modern city, why dont you send it to me and I promise you I will certainly without a doubt not use it and put it in the garbage and dispose of it for you. I will even pay for the postage, thats how nice and helpful I am, always thinking of others. Also that Brickcross station does not fit so you may as well send it to me as well to dispose for you, always here to help. Oh, and that trainshed, lets not forget the trainshed, and all those other trains...and some of those buildings.........

LOL. If I didn’t like trains, city building would be so much easier lol. Or if I had unlimited space
