Ep. 11: Bequia, Mustique and Mayreau (Caribbean Sea)

- Anke and I are sailing from Martinique to the Grenadines. In between, we provide support to a sailor who is unable to maneuver and whose radio messages don't go through, and can forward information between the Maritime Rescue Center Martinique and the sailor.
Afterwards we visit Port Elizabeth on Bequia and are enjoying the beautiful bay there. We continue to Mustique which is privately owned and a holiday destination for the rich, famous and beautiful. The beach is gorgeous. On Mayreau we anchor in Salt Whistle Bay and Saline Bay. We are getting deeper and deeper into the Caribbean flair.
Enjoy the video!

Martin, we do not see you baking the bread anymore. But we still enjoy every passage you make, thank you for the English version.
The bread baking machine is still in operation, but on this cruise most times we could buy some bread. Thank you and best regards 😀⛵⛵
Neuer Mast, neue Ziele und die 'alte Geliebte' um Dich herum, was kann es Schöneres geben. Geniest die Zeit, noch aus Holland, herzliche Grüsse.
Vielen Dank! Das war vor dem Mastbruch. Der neue Mast kommt im Oktober. Viele Grüße 😀⛵⛵
Such fun I have to say your lady has a wicked sense of humour. Good to see. So envious of your trip.
Enjoy to the max.
Thank you 😀⛵️⛵️
Really great guys. Despite the hundreds of sailing channels out there. I like yours the best 👍
Thank you very much and best regards 😀⛵⛵
Outstanding crew of Jambo helping out a fellow sailor. If any one runs into Anke and Martin in the Caribbean but them a beer or few.
Great sailing as usual. Fair travels
Thank you very much and kind regards 😀⛵⛵
Hallo Martin, good to see you again. Greetings
Thank you 😀⛵⛵
Enjoyed this Martin, we were in the area in January and like you preferred Saline Bay rather than busy Saltwater Bay. Good to see the big smiles on your faces
Thank you very much and best regards 😀⛵⛵
Hello Martin. Thanks for this version. Even for a French it's easier in English. Bon vent.
Merci beaucoup et meilleures salutations 😀⛵⛵
Happy Midsummer Martin and Anke. Hope all is good and stay safe.
Thank you very much and best regards 😀⛵⛵
So good to have another video from you Martin. You have inspired me. Fair winds !
My pleasure and thank you 😀⛵️⛵️
I enjoyed this video very much, thanks. We were there (all those places) almost exactly a week after you, and it was like watching my own home movie!
Great! Best regards 😀⛵⛵
Nice one jambo 👍🏻
Thank you 😀⛵⛵
nice living !
Thank you 😀⛵⛵
Danke Martin - inspiring as always
Thank you very much 😀⛵⛵
An interesting name on the boat behind you. 10:46
Man I love your channel. At least the videos in English. Lol. Makes me want to retire and find a sailboat but I know nothing. Just learned what reefing a sail means lol. Thanks for you content, blue water sailing seems incredibly interesting and adventurous.
Bobby, Memphis TN USA
Thank you very much and kind regards to Memphis 😀⛵⛵
Thanks for the video Martin. Different of course, but you seem more disappointed with the islands than for your visit to Sweden before COVID.
I love these islands. They are so great! Thank you and kind regards 😀⛵⛵
Next time throw those Royals out to may way for the Jambos! Far more important for sure
😀⛵⛵
Guten Morgen Martin, ich habe eine technische Frage, wenn Sie erlauben. I have nearly the same boat, same in mast furling as yours, but the continuous loop has been removed by the previous owner.
- what type/specifications/size of line/rope did you use, or do you have in place?
- How long is your continuous loop?
- Do you leave the winch free spinning all the time or do you have to lock it on the winch.
Many Thanks.
Good morning! The endless line is a normal 10mm line, about 10 m long. That depends on the distance between your mast and the cockpit. At the mast the system can be set freely spinning or locked in one direction and it can just be reefed. That is engaged when the wind is stronger as a precautious action. Is the wind lighter below 20 kn I usually keep it at free as the friction of the endless reef line holds the sail in the position if both clamps for that line in the cockpit are locked. Kind regards 😀⛵⛵
😎

Hi guys, enjoyable video, thank you. It's a bit of a left-field question, but, have you found your mast steps useful? Not many yachts have them and I wonder why, do they catch sheets or sails at all? Any disadvantages worth knowing about? I am likely to be solo sailing in the future and checking/repairing mast top gear seems impossible on your own without them. Regards.
Thank you! Yes, the mast steps are very useful and I would not like to miss them because work high in the mast is much easier. Usually, there should not be any problem with those steps. Kind regards 😀⛵⛵
Please move your kitchen roll holder. I know of two boats which had serious fires due to the roll unfurling in a breeze and catching fire when coming into contact with the gas ring whilst the crew were on deck while dinner cooked. Safe sailing. More English videos please. My German not so good.
Good point
"Not that famous!!". Yet!!!
Working on it… 🤣😀⛵️⛵️
Nice one jambo 👍🏻
Thank you 😀⛵⛵
