Bought the album when it came out. I was captivated by the music and sounds which reminded me up of a soundtrack to travelling through life itself. Between moving homes and moving on I lost all my Triffids albums along the way but the echo of their music still vibrates in my brain. I'm going to take some time off today and immerse myself once more in the Triffids.
I am in tears ........ there are idiots out there who think Coldplay, Radiohead or whoever are the bee's knees .. I don't believe in God, but if I did, I would thank her for "The Triffids" ............ oh my days do I love this ........ thank you so very much to the person who put this up. Different class
McComb is really on stride here as a vocalist moreso than even on the album: he just sings it with such passion and strength. I wish I'd been able to see them live when they were together.
This is absolutely marvelous . I've been a massive Triffids fan for years but never saw them live or even any live footage so this is a real treat. Thanks to whomever posted it , God Bless David McComb and thanks for all the heartbreakingly beautiful the band made . Check out In THe Pines , a great lost absolute classic !
Is there anything about this clip, or the song, or ANYTHING about the Triffids that isn't magnetic, angelic, or otherwise totally off the charts? Civilization will be wondering for the next 100 years how on earth they managed to ignore this band when David McComb was alive and the Triffids were together. Thank God that the Triffids managed to carry on regardless. Even their crappy songs were classic, and their every album was wonderful. Get honest with yourself about how great this band was.
Nothing. And remember the context, that gold glitter vest is essentially a fuck you to the bogans in the crowd - and how he calls them out at the beginning with the sarcasm- then he slays them. Stunner
This was from the Australian Made tour video featuring Triffids, I'm Talking, The Saints, Divinyls, Models, Jimmy Barnes and INXS from 1987. The reissue version of the video (and dvd) omitted Triffids and Jimmy Barnes completely. Well worth getting a copy of the longer VHS as it has loads of behind the scenes stuff on it.
As someone else said, this live version of Born Sandy Devotional's "Wide Open Road" is part of the re-release of that album. I just want to clarify that this video is included, not just the audio.
I've not been to Subiaco, so you're probably right. I was only saying it was because on the back of "Born Sandy Devotional" Domino re-release, where this video is found, it says "Wide Open Road (live) Subiaco Oval on the Australian Made Tour." Thank you for your correction.
Opening track "The Seabirds" comes pretty close. Then there's "I'll Be Gone" by Australian band Spectrum (1971) that also captures a beautiful separation from the mainstream.
If anyone has a copy or link to The Triffids performing wide open road this year for the first time in 20 years at the PIAF opening concert with Gareth Liddiard fronting can you please upload that shit
frovil . The 'australian made' tour. was a national tour of various oz bands including inxs and the models . this show is at Endevour Field near/at Cronulla in Sydney.
You know, I'm going to take a moment to apologize, but only because I'm a bigger person than 'CreationBaby'. All I did was write the same thing he did about my son (literrally a cut and paste of HIS comments). My son had his own video - it was a cute, harmless video by a 4 year old and all I was, was returning the favour. I had no intention of insulting the dude in this video/artist, on this page. Just returning the favour to a chump. Apologies if I harmed anyone along the way.
I think you are wrong. I don't dislike them but I don't think they are any better than the amount of interest they have already attracted, a fair amount but not a lot.
I think that the Go Betweens, Spy v Spy, Do Re Mi, Boom Crash Opera and tons of other Australian bands which originated from the same era as the Triffids were better than them. I'm surprised at how much the Triffids are talked up these days, they are good but not great.
You're saying boom crash opera were more the artists than the triffids? Do re mi were very good, but still no, not to the same extent. The Triffids are famous for not really having a bad song; maybe a couple on the Black swan album- I suspect you are trolling.
Dave was a deep thinker and under stated poet. The way he connected his emotions with place is amazing. The Triffids' early tapes and singles are gold.

some of my favourite 80s memories are seeing this band live. David McComb is much missed.

One of the great songs in the Aussie pantheon. It resonates deeply for me. Hope you all enjoy. The 80s. Ahhhhhh. The best.

Got in the pines and Born Sandy Devotional on Vinyl, love them !!
Thanks a lot! 👑 💕
What a BAND ! , what a SONG !!! Greetings from Belgium , the C that always will remember this band.

A song made sadder by David McComb's ill health and early death. Amazing Australian band.
Amazing song! Amazing band!
Chills down the spine, especially the verse starting at 1:59 - What a monster of a performer/artist. Thanks so much for posting this.
a great and timeless song the voice...
great stuff from a superb band!
What can I say?!?
Marvelous!!!
He blew every single opportunity that most of us don't even get.
what a song.

just tears...
Love this song
yep, definitely Endeavour Field 1987
Eternal! 👑 💕💎🎶🎁🥂✨💝

majesty in music

Thanks so much for this!!!!
That's the essence..
This is the most Australian song of all time…
It's very outbacky.😊
Opening track "The Seabirds" comes pretty close. Then there's "I'll Be Gone" by Australian band Spectrum (1971) that also captures a beautiful separation from the mainstream.
Underratedeste bande ever.
Okay - I'll say this: according to the documentation that comes with the official release of the video, it's recorded at Subiaco.
SHARK PARK! Go the MIGHTIES!
Another great WA band under rated by those in the EAST.
They were underrated by everyone in Australia, east and west... they had to go to Britain to get appreciated
Not by me I’m from Townsville
if I remember correctly they recorded this on film and not video and thats why it looks so great? anyone else remember?
Neoyugi . yeah it was made into a film. i bought it on video back then
i think i might've directed this..
Awesome. Loved Dogs in Space, and HDWAFIHH.
If Wikipedia is anything to go by, I’d say yes 😝
when an interlaced video is uploaded without a proper deinterlacing it looks like that, if scaled it gets even worse.. :-(
Shire shark park
Great to see this, but please re-digitize it with the correct field ordering. The fields are back to front in this video.
If anyone has a copy or link to The Triffids performing wide open road this year for the first time in 20 years at the PIAF opening concert with Gareth Liddiard fronting can you please upload that shit
Doing Ravey and Jerdy proud, still.
It's Subiaco, in Perth.
acepilot87 . its endeavour field, Cronulla, Sydney
No it’s not. Endeavour Field, Cronulla.
Your wrong Braeden
Nope. Assuming the overhead shot is from the same concert, that's definitely not Subi Oval.
Perth band though :)
Brilliant! was this at a festival?
Is that Cronulla? [edit: It is, Australian Made Tour, 1987]
Never could figure out why they didn't take off in the states like INXS.
They couldn't contrive to the stadium sound. INXS cultivated their music to stadiums, basic music, big horns etc. Dave don't cheat the muse that way.
As Andrew Farris' said, 'you cannot play a pub style gig to 20,000 people.' I tend to agree with him.
@thehuggybear101: Hahaha, honour the work :P
@frovil only this video is available. sorry.
great avatar, though. :)
Christ Church Grammar sure turned out some talent and substance abuse. RIP the talented Mr McComb gone too soon
Tuning???
What gig is this from ... would love to see more footage of the festival !;)
frovil . The 'australian made' tour. was a national tour of various oz bands including inxs and the models . this show is at Endevour Field near/at Cronulla in Sydney.
Certainly not Perth or Subi.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ainslie was a very average drummer in a very above average band

The Triffids are great because they are the Triffids, and the same for the other bands. No reason to compare, thanks!!
