  • Last week we were at Staynall and Wardleys Creek. This week we're on the opposite bank of the River Wyre at Stanah and Skippool Creek. If it seems we're being a bit Wyre-centric at the moment, you can blame it on plague restrictions and lack of transport. Having said that, there's nowt wrong with a bit of Stanah, regardless...

It wouldn't surprise me. The little buggers photobomb all my films. 🐈

    A boggart, a ghost, a witch and a hygienic baker . . . . I’m counting the minutes to my next visit!

Do we know what the "ER" in the wall at Skippool Creek denotes? I did see it myself a few years ago. Not sure if it relates to the stamp in the brick. Couldn't make it out.
    Great channel, sir.

Not sure. Possibly Elizabeth Regina...or maybe the builders were fans of the American hospital drama. :P

It might be Elizabeth Reigns...or possibly an advert for the popular American medical drama.

Having a little reminisce of the old homeland. I planted a sapling at Wyre Estuary when the park first opened in 1990(?) while at Stanah school. I wonder what it looks like now (the tree, that is). Also, I hope you didn't take my naff wee line the other week about "some of the pictures match the narration", or some such, as anything other than a joke. Of course they match, and it brings it all to life. If you're looking at changing things up to lessen the workload, you could maybe do a "behind the scenes" of the editing process, and any techies watching might have some input about streamlining here and there. Just a thought.

I have a cupola tile from the Illawalla .... they were being sold in an antique shop just down the road from the Oxford , many years ago . They let the place decay purposely (so the night watchman told me) .

I can well believe it, Michael. A similar thing happened to the Cleveleys Hotel...and Fleetwood Pier.

Was it Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood who purchased the Cockle Hall cottage? I've only seen a "Peter Hesketh" mentioned; don't know if it was him or one of his many relatives.

I'll be honest, I couldn't say. I've never heard of Peter Hesketh owning Cockle Hall, but he had his fingers in a lot pies before he went bankrupt, so it's possible.

Some amateurs mentioned it in part two of their Tale of Cockle Hall back in 2008. ;-) "How old the building was, we just don’t know. Freda showed us some letters dating from the late 19th century (circa 1896 if memory serves) when the Fleetwood Estate Company were purchasing the hall from Peter Hesketh. And the hall itself appears on the Ordnance Survey maps from the 1840s." @@wyrearchaeology1

Ah well, in that case it's definitely true. (One of these days I'll have to get my memory checked out - if I can remember to do that. )
