Lancashire Footnotes Episode Ninety-nine - What We Did At Stydd

  • Stydd is a village...well, more of hamlet really...actually, it's less than that, it's just a couple of knackered old buildings and some extremely noisy chickens on the outskirts of Ribchester (which isn't much more than a village itself). However, Stydd does have a very, very old church (that's no longer working), and a not quite so old Roman Catholic church (which is a bit boring, if I'm being honest) and an impressive almshouse (if you're into that sort of thing...I wouldn't mind living there whether you're into it or you aren't). And that's about it. Hopefully we haven't spoiled the film for you by getting carried away with the contents. It's tough if we have. You can always go and watch some Americans reacting to their first taste of Marmite instead.
On a slightly more miserable note, this is probably going to be our last film for some time (if not forever). Our landlord has died and we're now facing homelessness in the New Year - a rotten situation when you've got three cats and no money. And it isn't really possible to make films when you're living in a bus shelter behind Sainsbury's. So, if and when we get sorted then, no doubt we'll be back, but until then make sure that you have yourselves a really great Christmas and may your fortunes be better than ours. (Let's face it, they couldn't be much worse.)

I went to America a few years back and visited a Yanky old house, probably about 120 years old. I touched one of the walls out of interest and sure enough it was probably lath and plaster. A grey looking old spinster chastised me for touching the wall ,stating it was incredibly old and fragile. I told her in the uk a house of that age is practically a new build. I just got a blank look, so i left. Nice to get a full vid again, much appreciated.

I used to live in a Victorian house in Cleveleys and, one day as I was leaving the front door, I bumped into an old man who told me that he remembered the house being built. I was doubtful at first, until he explained that he was 105 years old and walked the four miles or so from Thornton to Cleveleys every day. I was hoping to meet somebody in Stydd who could say the same, but I was being a bit over-optimistic. 🙂

Theres no justice in this world when someone can sit watching and commenting or "reacting" on a video someone else made and get millions of views while someone who gets off their arse and makes interesting little videos with good production value gets bugger all. Oh well, keep on keeping on comrade.

We should have just made reaction videos about old British Sitcoms and pretended to laugh violently. We'd be millionaires by now.

We might end up in Yorkshire if we don't find somewhere suitable round here to live, at this rate, although I don't think the Yorkshire Tourist Board would allow us in.🤪

Hope you repaired to the Cafe at the nearby garden centre. Though it is a bit dear and frequented by the Glitterati of Ribchester.

We didn't, but we probably will when we revisit Ribchester (as soon as we've got our housing problem sorted and Jeanie McIntosh's car is back on the road...because I'm no walking it. 😜)
