So great this is now happening and coming forth. It is the number one most essential issue for US and it has to be processed honestly and consciously in order to become a better nation. The alternative is total breakdown. There is a limit to how much trauma, violence and unjustice a collective psyche can handle - just as it is with individuals. Best wishes from Helsinki, Finland.

Crazy, I have little interest in what this episode presents. I teach my children merit. If they live in my house education emphasis is mine to drive. This "stuff" is useless for me. I'm native American and know slavery existed long before this 1619 business, and that the abolitionist movement started here and in the UK specifically for blacks. I'm over the chip building division this"project" creates.

How old are you, - when did the term race enter the language body.did you read it or any books on the dynamics of live, survival in the world that the 1st thing seen is one's -color. Is the Bible is fiction , many books articles, etc can be judged as fiction if one has a different view. There were 11 kids in my DNA mixed family, ranging from blackness, Native American skin tones to myself -in my growing up I was the -- light, bright but not quite white how do you think I felt. Now every historian you state says it's fiction, ask yourself why ? If you are a proclaimed writer of American history, where did you get your information to declare yourself an historian, remember the saying -He who wins the war , WRITES THE HISTORY. If one reads the accounting of various events throughout history, different researchers- writers or historian whatever you want to call then has a different interpretations of any event just like in the Bible many of the apostles wrote a different view of many of the "biblical events " they witnessed. I hope you given you children enough critical thinking skills to investigate 🔎 any writes view.

You’re projecting and consequently revealing your own anti-Black bias. Why do you think that Black people’s story in America is one of weakness?
Being truthful (the most baseline job of any historian or educator) about the history of race in this country, including the subjugation, only reveals the awe-inspiring tenacity, perseverance, grace, and imigination of Black people to not only survive, but to thrive and to be so generative and create beauty in the face of such abject loss and destruction. Where is the weakness? If that were the case, we wouldn’t be here having this conversation.
If you can look at our story and feel ashamed, you are the problem that Nicole Hannah Jones is trying to address. To look away from our history is to fail our ancestors in the fight to preserve our humanity. It means you let those who would deny our humanity win.
The privilege we are excercizing in even having this conversation was won by those people you want to obscure from our collective consciousness. Acknowledging their challenges and ours only reifies the magnitude of our victories, big and small. We are a constellation of the answered prayers of our ancestors and our existence is the proof of their sacrifice. You are wrong to dishonor their legacy because the thought of their battles (and ours) makes you uncomfortable.
