I totally agree about the Atlanta part. When I first moved here from the north, the first thing I noticed was the stark divide between white and black communities. Today. In 2019.

And it starts with recognition.

@@wethepeople924 so how would you break that down at the local, federal, and state government level? Should there be two separate governments also? I'm curious about that. Let's not forget in black communities there's a large wage gap compared to white communities, the infrastructure is barely kept up and dated, and quality business choose not to do business in that area... this the reason why you'll see more liquor stores and fast food joints in black communities. Also, if more people want black businesses to open up, where are they getting the startup money from? The loan process is also racism at its finest. I feel like people keep saying the same thing but aren't coming with any true solutions.

Kathy - There has always been an argument that Brown people don’t support Black Causes. I’ve written comments on both sides that highlight the statement that you made today. The truth is that the delineation of Black and Brown causes is minute when applied nationally and even globally since if you assessed global wealth folks of color live more in poverty class than whites. Of course there are micro causes of each culture but the facts remain people of color share more negative causes than they realize. The main issue is how the dominant power structure has made us all believe that we (people of color) are not all connected.

But we have to unlearn something as the slave mentality which is much of what we see today including the self hate and self destruction and don't fget our lack of unity. We are addicted to the oppressors system we are will to break the rules of true success.
Someone said to give an example. Well speaking self sufficient Tulsa, Rosewood, Wilmington. Just to name a few. Until we decide to take what we have and use it to take us?to the next step. We will continue to chase the dream. Now make no mistake I'm not saying I have all the details sorted out. If I did I would shout it out to the mountain tops.I do know lots of our present leaders lack a true vision for our people but we bare some blame to. I'm not saying our oppressor is blameless not at all. But it's time we look to overcome in spite of the oppressor.we may be in the world. We need to come to the realization we are not of the world. I love the way she put contemporary African-American conditions, from the best of us to those struggling the most, in context. As for the latter, it's about time that we realize that there really are no groups of people better than us, and if we see issues within our communities, there is a direct ROOT to those issues. It's high time we stopped looking down on ourselves. There's nothing pathological about us, just like this lady says. If you see terrible conditions and generational issues in certain communities, there is a REASON. Nobody invites that on themselves. Even if the people who are generationally poor aren't able to articulate it themselves, there is a reason. We are not somehow innately inferior. In fact, quite the contrary. Look at how much effort it took to bring us down. We should have been long dead.

I notice that when that word " victimhood " is used it's usually in a conversation concerning the systemic racism that has and is being perpetrated against Black people . Every time the ugly truth of the very real and persistently organized hostility against Black people in the U.S. is discussed someone brings up the term " victimhood " , as if being aware of the past and current concerted efforts of systemic racism equates to " playing a victim " , like there are no real tangible evidence of injury from being wrongfully treated . It's all just a mental psychosis of believing to be victimized and no tangible injuries that needs to be addressed and compensated for .
As if Black people just stop talking about the racial crimes committed on them their social predicaments will improve . SMH

      Indeed.
In one of his songs, Prince said that "Abraham Lincoln was a racist".
That caught my attention because it challenged my knowledge formulated by the white man's american history narrative. At first I wanted to dimiss that lyric from Prince. But then I decided to check into it for myself.
This lovely woman is 100%. The 13th amendment was proposed based on Lincoln's challenge to force the confederacy back into the union or he would find a way to bankrupt them. They flipped him the bird, and he said "No problem". The law was established to make it unconstitutional to own slaves and the civil war ensued. And eventually, those stupid slave owners who refused to adjust to the changing times, went bankrupt just to defy the "yankees" up north. ( dumba**es ).
Lincoln on the other hand kinda blamed the prescence of the blacks as causing all this deep turmoil and wished they would all just returned back to their motherland. Trust me he would have a stroke if he was brought back to life to see the level of rights that black people have today, inspite of the fact that it was his signature that got the ball rolling in that direction.
Prince did his homework, and I am so glad when knowledgable black folks force me to do mine.
