- Michael Braun, a German immigrant arrived in America in 1737, he built this house for his family, and it remained in his family after his death until early 1900’s.

Just beautiful! I'm 4th generation from Germany in the US. I remember my grandparents showing me pictures of relatives' homes in Germany. I have a pie safe, similar to the one in the video. The Germans sort of invented pie safes. Often, they were hung from the ceiling to prevent critters from invading on the breads and pies. Great video; great story! 😊

What a beautiful house and property. I live in Central MD and we have a house in my town of German origin also named Schifferstadt that looks like this house. Built in 1758. It was saved many years ago also and is now an architectural museum. Your videos are top notch!

My mother was German. I was born in Germany. My dad got orders for the states and we moved to the states. Then in 72 my Dad got orders for Hawaii. My mother was not happy an complained to her friend about it. She complained to her husband. He was a General and he made a few phone calls and had them change the orders to Germany. We lived in Germany from 72 to 96. Best years of my life.

Wonderful home, a real gem. I'm so glad it's been preserved. It's important to see how these people lived. Our neighbors, who live right behind us, are Old Order Amish. They don't have electricity and only drive horse and buggys. (They do like to ride in our car though, LOL). They speak a mutant form of German when they are together. I feel like I'm watching my great grandparents go about their daily lives. Great video. Thank you. 😊

I love the old pewter. When I was a teenager i was collecting pewter from the flea markets. Then German tins one year... German baskets and pottery the next. So much fun.

Yes I still have them. I have my grandmother's dishes coffee service and my mother's. I shipped some of her things to the states when she died last year. I have things from East Germany too. Mugs glasses vases etc.
I started collecting as a teenager. I took buses to flea markets every weekend.

All German houses I have seen had sheers and curtains and shutters on the windows. Guess they had not been invented yet. My house has sheers and curtains. Thank goodness my house doest have open floor plans. I am more German and do not like it.
