One of my favourite Christmas songs but I could be a bit biased because I knew Ed the drummer well as he used to come into the mixer most nights & Dublin Castle in Camden plus he used to go out with a Swedish girl called Marie who was friends of my friends.
I always considered this to be one of the last classic feeling Christmas songs to come out; one of the keepers that fits in a playlist with all the oldies that have been played year on year.
Best thing about The Darkness is what an absolute ball they were clearly having, and this is a classic example of that. Best Christmas song of the past 40 years.
This song hits all the right notes for a perfect Christmas song, the lyrics, the music, the bells, the lead guitar, the voice, cheesy moments that make you smile and the children joining in on the chorus. Well done The Darkness. Merry Christmas.
The guys who saved 'Christmas' (as opposed to certain people who worked f***in' hard at ruining it). Best Christmas song since the early-70's, when Christmas was 'fun' (remember that ?). + - Think about this - all them Christmas hymns were about 'rejoicing', not flagellating yerself about things that YOU (frankly) have got very little chance of changing. AND this song doesn't actually need the 'double entendres' to make it simultaneously fun but relevant - I read it straight : it still creases me up (even without the video) & I'm with it 100% ... . The Darkness really did it man, they gave us a Christmas song perfect in it's Darknessness. Fun video too. When Justin puts his arms up at the end and sings "bells end" it's one hell of a great moment.

Until this and Kelly Clarkson my dad and others didn't think it was possible to write a Xmas song that was a classic level material. Made him happy and gave him hope for a little while longer. Despite it's problems here and there, we loved the Darkness. They were so damn good.
