    Not only did the War in Heaven flood the Warp with souls, emotions, and thoughts, these were alien souls, emotions, and thoughts. It turned the Warp into a place that the human struggles to understand and whose knowledge can literally drive men mad. The Warp is chaotic, terrifying, and filled with predators who endlessly hunt, are killed, and then reform over and over. That is why the material world holds such fascination for beings from the warp, it provides stability and permanency that they rarely get to experience while acting as ground that can be truly conquered and controlled.

      Thats a great explanation! I could really see the mash up of potentially millions of years of empires, races , cultures ect being thrown in a plain of existence together with beings that fully dominate there , how the mere thought of it could lead to corruption. Makes sense why they would want out so badly, but they are also clearly monstrosities so better if they stay! XD

    24:26 when it comes to murder, elder are very powerful species who didn't fear death before slaanesh was born, when they died and go to the warp, they have extremely powerful souls which puts them in a cycle where they would have an psychic reincarnation so they didn't care if they were killing each other

    • @TheRealCenturion
      @TheRealCenturion  Місяць тому +1

      So in a sense the Eldar are immortals? Does Slaanesh directly enslave them after death now or are they still capable of reincarnating themselves? Or do they offer themselves to Slaanesh ? (That could be the Dark Eldar though! im not sure!)

      @@TheRealCenturion Yeas, the Aeldari were functionally immortal in mind, body, and soul. They can not die naturally, and they had a variety of options available back then, if they were unalived; either :
      1. Pass on to the warp and reincarnate in another life (or get wished into existence via psychic rituals)
      2. Upload your mind to the Infinity Circuit (the core of each Craftworld / Exodite paradise world)
      3. Transfer to a fresh, donated body or grow / clone a new body as long as they recovered a piece of you, from a hair or finger nail to a single strand of DNA.
      Unfortunately, Slaanesh directly enslave them after death now - all their souls go straight to her whether they want or not. Luckily, the Aeldari found a loophole by using 'soulstones' as jewelry to directly upload their souls if they did die, though they can't reincarnate anymore. Still, soulstones are reserved for the elites and important leaders.
      The Drukhari (Dark Eldar) aren't devotees of Slaanesh at all - in fact, they fear and despise him/her/it the most. They do sadistic acts because the pain and emotions of the victims' souls feed their immortality - a remnant of the Dark Eldars' stunted psychic powers.

      Guys in case you are not aware the imperium consist of 1.000.000 planets. We also no that 32.000 of those are Hive worlds. Those Hive worlds we know of have a population of 120 Billion Citizens on average meaning just in the Hive worlds ecluding, Forgeworlds, Argiworlds etc the imperium has at least this number of people 3.840.000.000.000.000. Since Hive worlds are 3% of all planets the Imperim has settled lets just double the total population to 8 Quadrillion for easier math - at a population growth of just 1% per year thats about 200.000.000.000 or 20 times our earths population of new born people each day. So Psykers are 1 in a Million and one Thousand are scarificed to the emperor ever day which is 0,05% of all new born psykers every day.
      Oh but here is the fun part i didn`t include terra into my calculation because Terra according to lore is a continuous Hive World. If that was true and we stretch out a single Hive across just Half of Terra that would me Terra alone houses 96% of the imperiums citizen or an aditional 750 Quadrillion.
      At which point 4 Billion dead in an industrial accident on terra is so minor it won`t make the local news in the district 🙂

    11:24 when it comes to the war on heaven we don't know how big the war on heaven was, it had god engines that destroyed and consumed worlds as fuel, c'tan going around bending reality and destroying planets and eating trillion souls from random species, wiping them out basically, this was was so devasting because we had one side which is the necrons and c'tan using reality breaking weapons and tools while the old ones, the aelderi (elder) are using psychic powers at stupid levels, the aelderi were able to summoned and fight alongside their elder gods, the orks came into the later stages of the war when the old ones are close to losing so they created the krorks, this is what orks use to be, absolutely powerful and fucking terrifying warriors who were 30ft+ tall with extremely advance weapons and power armor, they were more intelligent and genetically modified for war, they have thr ability to bend reality as well but after the war they devolved into the orks where they are just big and dumb where they are unaware that they have the ability to bend reality through imagination

    You mentioned how you found it interesting that 40k has fantasy races intermixed with sci-fi, this is because Warhammer started off as a Fantasy franchise.
    You have Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k, Fantasy sadly was discontinued and replaced with Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which is kind of a reboot.
    Warhammer Fantasy also has some unique races that don't appear in 40k, and there's some deep lore tid-bits at least early on that implied both franchises were kind of connected. Games Workshop just ported the fantasy races over to a sci-fi setting to create 40K, which is why you'll notice a lot of connections, the Warp permeates everything, potentially even multiverses, meaning the Chaos gods exist in multiple realities such as 40K, and Fantasy/Age of Sigmar, and potentially even more realities we are completely unaware of
    Tomb Kings - Necrons
    Empire of Man - Imperium of Man, which also has orgyn - ogres and squats - dwarves/halflings.
    High Elves - Eldar
    Dark Elves - Dark Eldar
    Greenskins - Orks
    Chaos remains unchanged
    sadly the skaven haven't been brought into 40k, although the Tyranids kind of fulfil that role

    If you'll watch Bricky's factions videos you won't know the "newest" faction of space dwarfs. Newest in quotation marks because they were there back in the day but then they weren't and they are back but with a new coat of paint. The Leagues of Votann are descendants of humanity, evolved into tough, stocky space dwarfs after millennia in harsh environments. They’re all about loyalty to their kin, survival, and efficiency. When dealing with others, they usually try to make a deal first-offering trade, alliances, or a warning before moving in on a planet’s resources. Cooperation is their preference since it’s less wasteful than fighting.
    But if a deal is refused or broken, they won’t hesitate to act. They’ll crush resistance and strip a planet for what they need, but they’re not reckless. If a fight would cost too many resources or Kin lives, they’ll walk away and look for another way to secure what they need. To them, balance between gain and loss is everything.
    Their decisions are also guided by the ancient AI supercomputers known as Votann. These machines, once brilliant and efficient, have degraded over time and now operate slowly and ponderously. Despite this, the Leagues still revere them and follow their decrees, even when they lead to morally grey or harsh actions.

They sometimes do some mercenary work for the Imperium (but Imperium still generally considers them as xenos), or there are some auxiliary votann units with the Tau empire.
      They also have what are called the Ironkin, which are basically robots with an advanced AI, and they treat them just like any other living kin. And as Imperium has outlawed AI this could be a major point of disagreement to put it lightly.
      And as for being most level headed, it doesn't mean they are not bad people. One of their main mottos is "Luck has. Need keeps. Toil earns." Which is essentially to say; whoever wants something the most, and puts in the most effort to have it, deserves to own it. So if you have a planet with a bunch of valuable resources, but I want it more, I deserve to have it if I put in the work killing your people. This is an extreme example, but if you turn down their offer, they'll probably come, kill your people or destroy the planet, and take what they wanted.

    The early human expansions went so well and with so little opposition that humanity for quite a while thought it was alone in the galaxy, lacking the means of detecting the Eldar because of the technological gap. Humanity and the Sol System were once a part of what was considered Necron space, but the fringes of it, so the Eldar hadn't really taken a large interest in it nor had other races really wanted to venture into the lands of the people who once killed the closest things to physical gods, the Old Ones, the galaxy at known at that time. Proper care to make sure worlds were self-sufficient hadn't been done, with warp travel shortening vast distances to quick trips, specialization crept into the economy of each world, which unfortunately for Terra resulted it becoming a world of massive spires, huge habitation blocks, and nation spanning bureaucracy buildings to handle the vast paperwork needed to manage all of these worlds. This meant that Terra was very resource deprived and essentially a giant housing and financial center that was reliant on other worlds to supply it with essentials. When it was cut, the population and the various governments panicked, blaming each other and leading to planetwide war with weapons that scarred Terra so deeply it never really recovered, it was simply built over. Their psykers began to lose control and summon hordes of daemonic creatures, the AI robots saw their chance and rose up in rebellion and murder against their creators, and all while supplies dwindled, communication was cut off, and your leaders were blaming and warring with each other for control of the ashes. That is the moment when the Emperor revealed himself and set about restoring order through intense violence and technological superiority.

For example Orks believe that "Red wunz go fasta" (red ones go faster), so they will paint their vehicles red to make them go faster. If enough Orks are around red vehicles WILL go faster. They are unaware they have this power, so they can't use it in any kind of concious way (which is a good thing for the rest of the galaxy) but it does mean that Orks can do things they shouldn't be able to because enough Orks believe it they should. Prime example, an Ork buggy runs out of gas. but the biggest ork says "No we're not out of gas! I filled Da Trukk up before we left, and then the other Orks are like "O yeah you did fill it up", and the Buggy will work again, probably it doesn't have any fuel, but it'll drive as if it has.

Psykers don't usually travel in the warp, but rather draw their power from the warp, which attracts demons in the warp, and if the Psyker is not strong enough, or ignorant of the dangers the daemons can take over the Psykers body. Travel through the warp relies on a specific class of mutants called Navigators (yep very dune-like) who have a literal third eye with which they can gaze into the warp without going mad and consequently plot a course through it trying to avoid the dangers. To access the powers of the warp and/or resist it you need a big, strong soul in 40k. Not all races have automaticaly a strong soul but can develop over long existence or be born/created with one. Example: the Tau have tiny souls. They are psychicly inept or incapable, but because of that the warp demons and dark gods are also not really interessant in their race and leave them 98% of the time alone.
    Example 2: Humans as whole weren't really a species with big souls in the beginning but grew. The tipping point was in the dark age of technologie where real psychers appeared for the first time (I don't count the perpetuals here). This indicates that the species developed to a point were the collective might and subsequential following generations have strong souls and are attractive enough for the warp gods and minions to mess with them (as food, play things etc)

    Space Marine Legions and Primarchs, a quick break down.
    20 Primarch and Legions known, 2 killed prior to the events of the Horus Hersey for reasons unknown but the very concept of them was censured from the public awareness, talking about them or asking questions meant you were dragged away to never be see again. The founder of the Inquisition, Malcador, keeps two oversized skulls marked with their numbers as part of his regalia and later leaders of the Inquisition would add them to the throne of the High Inquisitor.
    Each Legion was originally composed of various people from Terra but after being reunited with their Primarch and transferring command over to them new recruits were pooled from the worlds the Primarch was found upon as each Primarch began changing and shaping their Legion to suit themselves and incorporate people who were important to them on their "home" world.
    Each Space Marine of a Legion has an organ added to them as part of the procedure to become a Space Marine, called a Gene Seed, which over time alters them at a genetic level to harmonize with the genes of their Primarch. This means they tend to have collectively the same mutations if any occur, tend to develop the same abilities as their fellows, and even tend to gain the same "flavor" of psychic abilities. There can be wide gulfs between individual Marines but if say the Space Wolf Gene Seed tends to cause it's Legionaries to develop elongated canines and an unusually strong sense of smell these common mutations will become standard throughout the Legion.
    The Primarchs themselves are genetically engineered people, designed from the earliest cells and made to exhibit and excel at various traits as the Emperor himself didn't know all of what he may need. The Emperor has a gift for foresight, but it's not omniscience. Each Primarch is designed using the Emperor's cells as a base, tweaking the genetic structure and greatly accelerating growth and understanding. Most Primarchs are nearly full height by 3 years old and some have incredible abilities from awareness, like Konrad having visions of future events, Perturabo having the uncanny ability to simple look at something and immediately understand in great detail how it works and how it was put together, and Vulkan being effectively unkillable, coming back from disintegration, impaling, horrific cell eating viruses, and even starvation.
    While the Emperor was the political and public face of the Great Crusade, it wasn't just undertaken by him. A vast array of people, scientists, pilots, soldiers, and close confidants were instrumental in getting it off the ground and keeping it going. The Emperor may have had the final say, but he can't be everywhere, and this is shown in blindingly clear light when he starts finding his first sons and basically abandons them to keep searching for the rest, leading to some of the Primarchs feeling unwanted and forced into wars and leading forces they wanted nothing to do with, a real "Hi Son! I'm your dad. These are your men. Go kill those aliens over there while I go look for your brothers. Good luck son, I'm sure you can handle it. See you in a few decades.".
    This feeling of abandonment was coupled with the extreme violence and destruction the Emperor forced his sons to partake in, giving them 10,000 lives that were now their responsibility in a war zone. Even when they did their best, if the result wasn't to the Emperor's satisfaction he would send emissaries to censure or penalize the Primarch and the Legion for it's faults. Not conquering the stars quick enough? Get to killing. Want to take a break to rebuild some of those worlds? Too bad, get to killing. Got a hobby you enjoy? Too bad, there are stars out there without human boots on them, get to killing. He made it abundantly clear he saw the Primarchs as tools of conquest in much the same way he viewed the Thunder Warriors of old, a prototype he is field testing and plans to eventually replace. This led to quite a bit of unrest in the ranks of the Primarchs and when the Emperor finally said "Ok guys, I'm done with the crusading for now. I'm going home to Terra to handle some things for what is likely to be quite a while so I'm going to appoint one of you to be in charge of the others and keep the crusade going while I go do that thing. Horus, you are in charge. Good luck kids!" there was something of a major blow to the trust in the Emperor the Primarchs had. If you were a good loyal soldier so far you felt slighted, the Emperor had judged you and found you wanting compared to Horus. If you were thinking rebellious thoughts, the Emperor abandoning you on the edges of the galaxy to continue the murder for what seemed like forever and appointing a new tyrant to keep cracking the whip didn't feel your heart with peace. All of this was on top of some of those censures and penalties I mentioned before, like burning down one Legion's holy site before them while psychically forcing the entire Legion to kneel and watch as he did it for having the audacity to say the Emperor was more than a mortal man or banning a Legion who was principally dedicated to expanding and understanding psychic phenomena from ever using their psychic abilities again. This made the whispers of rebellion, of a different way with more freedom to be what each Primarch wanted to be, of brotherhood and common cause against their cruel creator, of understanding of their suffering and commiserating with the injustice of it all the more effective and let Horus plant in fertile ground.

      @TheRealCenturion yes rhat would be trazyn( my favorite necron character and in general one of the few people of 40k that you can have a normal conversation with if its about history and storytelling). The war in heaven lastet aproximitly 5 billion years because we talk about the old ones the first sentient and sapient species ever in 40k history their is no race older than them, in fact most 40k species that exist were at some point created in their baseform by the old ones. As you can imagine the galactic old one empire spanned basicly the entire galaxy with thousands of their creations (other races) just living in oblivion about the entire galaxy beneath the old ones in isolated worlds and clusters. The old ones did this on purpose because in their view they create live but live itself must find a way to evolve and survive. On the other side were literal physical gods. The true first beeings with a will for self preservation but not enough inteligence for more. The C'tan could have been nothing more than a galaxy wide plague which the old ones would try to destroy so that the Star vampires as the necrons used to call them at first would not consume every star in the milkyway. However now the necrons just having been defeated by the old ones come into play. A C'tan had appeard and feasted on their sun. The necrons found a way to trap the c'tan in necrodermis the backbone of both their ships aswell as citys. (In High-Gothic the language of the Imperium its called living-metal) Now something happend no beeing both realworld and warpborn could forsee. The c'tan in animalistic panic formed the necrodermis into form to free himself but instead he fused with it, it became its body. And for the first time it was able to form complexe thoughts and emotions. It realised that the pain and psychic energy emitted by the trillions of frail, weak and fleashy beeings down on that planet tasted far better than any solar engery ever had. And so this first c'tan forged a plan to enslave the necrontyr and the rest you heard already. And before you ask their are many c'tan not just one the few I ant the moment remember are: Void dragon (real name destroyer of knowlege thats importend for the mechanicus because a chart of the void dragon sleeps deep under Mars and basicly influenced the martians to become so technology obsesed, tge problem his true name is eater of knowlege so yeah we will see what comes out of that) the deceiver, the nightbringer, the burning one, the outsider etc. their are many c'tan maybe several hundred.

    Interesting point to be made about the Astronomican, you can't just sacrifice any old human. You axe psykers. And given that the ratio is about 1 psyker in 1000 normies... yeah.
    One more novel to add to Bricky's recommendations there is Eisenhorn. There's 3 books, centered around inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn, one of my favourites, can't recommend it enough.
    Gaunt's Ghosts is fantastic. It's carnage, brutal warfare, military life, things of that nature.
    Or go with Ciaphas Cain if you want a good laugh. And carnage.

    Different races having different connection levels with the warp. The eldar are exceptionally connected with the warp. The humans have a moderate connection. The Tau have very small connections. The necrons have no connection to it. This is probably why the Old Ones created/elevated the eldar and ork, because they are warp sensitive and so had an advantage over the necrons. So the strength and number of psykers within a species does differ between races.

    • @TheRealCenturion
      @TheRealCenturion  Місяць тому +1

      That makes sense! I was thinking it could be something similar to "Mass Effect" in a way, where a race like the Asari are basically always latent psionics and its a lot more rare in Humans. . Thank you for answering my question though! I imagine the Orks "traditionally" would not be psykers, but do you mean the Eldar and Ork , in terms of Psyker ability, are similar? sorry if thats incorrect!

    • @pub1
      @pub1 Місяць тому

      @TheRealCenturion - the eldar are powerful psykers and are very aware of this power. They have learned how to control it very effectively.
      the Orks are a strange one though. They do have 'standard' psykers, called weirdboyz, amongst their population. But they all have strong psychic powers, which allows them to just manifest things into being true when in large numbers. And the larger the gathering, the stronger this subconcious power becomes. However, because they are so dumb, they have no idea that they have this power and so they cant conciously control or use it. If they ever realised they had this power and learned how to use it, they'd be super OP and would crush the galaxy.
      For example, Orks create space ships capable of flying through the warp by using scrap metal and bits of derelict ships. These ship parts might not include a way to generate oxygen. However, Orks don't know that you need oxygen in space, but they do know (and therefore collectively believe) that ships can carry people through space just fine. So they build these ships and sail them through space and the warp just fine, whether there is any oxygen on the ship or not..... because of the Ork's psychic powers of belief!

The saying I use for Slaanesh's birth is the Eldar accidently murder F***** a god into existence. Bricky is entry level 40k, so he doesn't mention the Eldar had a number of their own gods. One was captured by Nurgle and is imprisoned in his garden, I don't know how the laughing god escaped and their war god was beaten by Slaanesh but Khorne tried to claim him and he was scattered into a bunch of pieces. Regardless, Bricky does have good info and if u want a deeper dive into 40k, check out Luetin, MajorKill, Oculus Imperia, or if u want a run down of wars like the Badab war and the Siege of Vraks, Arch.

Would they be similar in a way to the Emperor from the Imperium in terms of strength and ability? or were they more in it for themselves? Im assuming the later just due to how far they let their society decline.
      Thank you for the recommendations though!, Ill add those to the list !

    • @TenOfTwenty
      @TenOfTwenty Місяць тому

      @@TheRealCenturion They could physically manifest to be alongside the Eldar. Eldar god's also could imbue eldar with their power. An example of this is an Avatar of Khaine. Khaine is the war god I mentioned and his power can transform an Eldar warrior into a towering flaming titan. Their power is mighty but I doubt it compares to the Emperor. The Emperor has on at least one occasion, almost transformed into a chaos god called the Dark King. This occurred at the end of the Horus Heresy while the Emperor was still alive. The Emperor's psychic might is much stronger 10 years after the Hersey. As for the Eldar god motivations, I can't speak to that, at least in the books I've read. The one god I know is still active is the laughing god. His name is Cegorach and the Harlequins(Eldar Clowns) worship him.
      Edited Side Note: Any Eldar warrior that becomes a Avatar of Khaine is sacrificed in the process.

    The question of if the emperor is a god, or wanted to be worshipped as a god, is kind of a debate among the fandom.
    On the surface, he was a radical atheist who obliterated cities that mistakenly worshipped him as a god.
    But the other their goes is that the emperor is playing 33 dimensional chess… who makes themselves look like a 20 foot tall golden armored guy with a golden aura and name your soldiers “angels.”
    And some how his whole plan ends up with the entire human species worshipping him and sacrificing psychers for him to consume?
    It all just seems a little too convenient - like a reverse psychology ploy.

  • @criticalchai
    @criticalchai Місяць тому

    the creators wanted to play with the idea of fantasy races in space. So Orks(Orcs), Eldar(elves), Squats(dwarves) Ogren(ogres) Nekron(undead) Tyranid(xenomorphs) all exists in this universe. They had a lizard people race but they got forgotten along with the squats. ogren I think are still around but not brought up much other than occasionally being among the imperial guard.
    The religious angle and the warp really remind me of American Gods. The belief and id and emotions of the people feed the warp and gives forms to those ideas. So if there is some happy playful emotions then some happy playful friend will be formed in the warp. if you get enough people to believe then it will grow stronger. In the eldar's case it birthed a god but the warp is full of smaller beings but its not never clear if the thing a psyker is talking to is some river spirit that just want them to open up his mind to come see the spirit realm or some demon that wants a way into reality. because the demons out there will kill the smaller warp entities as fast as anything else.
    The space marine legions are based on the genetics of their primarch. So they carry any mutations and personality traits of that primarch.
    without the astronomicon they would be snuffed out. it is the one permanent feature that navigators can find in the warp and lets them reach far distant worlds across the galaxy. without it they would be limited to just near by systems. the empire would collapse into millions of local groups who would have to fight on alone against all the other races. they wouldn't last long.
    sadly the emperor was trying to pull humanity to a point of enlightenment. He was a secular being so it is a terrible irony that he would be turned into a god by by his followers.

    So some bits bricky sorta embelished abit... The Imperium is not fascist, it's theocratic monarchy over all. The worlds of the Imperium only have two main rules imposed on them by Terra and they are to pay your taxes and only pray to the Emperor other than that Terra doesn't care how you run your house so long as it works. This is why you will find every sort of government ever in the Imperium of Mankind from democracy like on Macragge to literal kingships like in the middle ages with everything in between. The psykers that give their souls to Big E are not human sacrifices they are helping Big E keep the golden throne working they just burn out it takes such power and effort to do so about a thousand per day die from the stress or injuries from their powers being used like this. Lastly humans are indeed the good guys as they just want to survive in a galaxy so hostile to human life that the luxury of modern morality we have too day is so costly it could risk the death of entire worlds to chaos corruption alone not even touching on the alien threats. Humans in 40k hate aliens so much because during the golden age mankind ran around making friends with literally every alien they met and being one of the most powerful races in the whole galaxy the aliens went along with it while being rather jealous or hateful of humans for being how they are. Then once Slaanesh was born and the human empire got fucked the aliens pounced on mankind killing, raping (yes you read that right) and enslaving humans for thousands of years until Big E came along freeing them. So humans in 40k are completely justified in their hatred of aliens as every single alien ally they had turned on them in the age of strife. 40k's universe is so cruel, dark and hostile the only way mankind to cling on to survival is to throw away any sort of weakness or naive thinking because everytime mercy is shown a knife hits your back. This is the one universe the fans of it DO NOT want to live in it unlike those who enjoy start trek or star wars it's beyond morally grey to the point of survival or death are your morality in this place. The Emperor protects.
