All those that bought their social housing house now rents it out in the private sector for extortionate rents. This is a disgrace. This country is paying a very high price for Tories being in power for the majority of time.
Wrong, SOME are renting out properties they bought under ‘right to buy’. Not all, I know many who live in their former council homes, the couple next door to me bought theirs recently and are spending a lot on making it their family home. I was going to buy my current home until the crash of 2008. Why did I want to buy my council home? Because of a heart attack 2 years before that could easily have led to another at any time. I wanted my wife and 2 young sons to have a guaranteed home if I did die. Then they could have carried on living there with no mortgage to pay or if they wished they could have sold it on and moved if they wanted. I disagreed with the right to buy in the eighties as I could see it leading to good council homes being bought cheaply by relatives of elderly people with a massive discount. Then when the elderly relative(s) died the home went to the relatives to sell on or rent out. It was also obvious homes in bad areas and poorly maintained ones wouldn’t sell leaving the councils with increasing bills for maintaining homes in poorer areas. The tories also stopped councils from using income from selling homes to build new ones and instead the money went to keeping council tax bills lower for the better off. We DO need new council homes to reduce the demand for homes. Some in the private sector are terrible landlords and screw over the benefits system too. That needs to end.

I hope Labour sort it out because people shouldn't be dying in this country because they're unable to work.
This is like watching the muppet show ' over & over 😃
Now I cant get that bloody tune out of my head !
"The Northern communities" ... JFC
Absolutely,no idea whatsoever what it means to live in the real world.northern or otherwise frankly.
Agreed.
@@Captain-l-12p She was MP for a Leeds constituency. The last time I looked on a map, that particular place called Leeds was in West Yorkshire, which most people would define as being in the North of England. So she really should know better.
This is the retoric in Australia
Why is she invited onto News night Her expertise is ?
Bring them all in to court for wasting public funds ! Make them pay for there stupidty!
She was absolutely appalling….Knowing the Tories created this mess all she could come up with is “ Whataboutism”. Why the BBC have these out of work, redundant grifters on night after night frankly wants me to turn off, and I normally like NN.
Jenkyns is attempting to out-Truss Truss in the "nuttier than a warehouse full of Snickers bar" stakes. Any failure she mentions are now the responsibility of Labour. However, given we've not even had six weeks of a labour administration let alone six months, the bulk of this failure to build new housing lies with 14 years of the Tories.
The Tory amnesia is STRONG in this deluded one😆🤣
UK: Don't be harsh on the rioters, their concerns about immigration and asylum seekers have been suppressed.
UK: *discusses nothing but immigration and asylum seekers for decades*
Why the everlasting FUCK don't 'journalists' and 'interviewer' challenge them on this horseshit???
The underlying problem within the UK is increasing income inequality - which got worse under the tory watch...
She was never the sharpest tool in the box. I remember when she struggled to spell WTO.
Hi Max Hello Everyone 👋❤
Where does she live ? NOT IN MY NAME...
Their definition of illegal is simple but they can't say it, its people they see as from the wrong countries. Essentially cultures they don't believe deserve help.
Thatcher decided to let people buy their council houses which was a great plan.Unfortunately she didn’t give councils extra finance to replace their housing stock when they were sold off.
It was worse than that. They were expressly forbidden to use sale proceeds to replace housing stock.
How much smaller would today's housing benefit bill be if more tenants were in council housing.
Hint. 10 years ago my rent was 200 pw in an ex council property, my neighbours exactly the same flat, council rent 75 a week.
How many former mps of labour from 1997-2010 had interviews on the BBC after 2010
Wait, Bristol is in the North?!
Absolutely spot on analysis of the tories well said
