I can't believe they're not brewed with rice...this was what made them Japanese and gave them their unique profile. To use corn starch Asahi is really a Mexican cervesa!

3-4 years ago Asahi used to be way better and had that real dryness to it. Being brewed by birra peroni it tastes more and more like peroni now, no real dryness and of course abv has dropped from 5.2% to 5.0%. Sick of them ruining good beer

I had a bottle of Asahi(bottled) a few months ago, took one sip of it and it tasted vile, slung the rest of bottle down the sink but just to make sure i opened a second bottle of Asahi and again it tasted vile so slung that bottle aswell! Years ago Asahi tasted dry it was a very enjoyable beer, its dryness was its big appeal but the stuff now is a shadow of its former self so much so that i will never buy it again.

I just make a point of voting with my feet & boycotting them the moment the percentage drops (if not before - it's usually a very bad sign when production moves location from the home country).

I went to the original Asahi brewery in Suita, Osaka, the other week. Far better from the bar at the end of the museum tour, as you'd expect from the horse's mouth - the head retention was incredible for a lager. The Italian stuff you get in Tescos isnt too bad though, especially now that I have a proper Asahi glass hehe.

What a real eye opener & absolute bummer!. Until your Vs series came along I never really paid attention to Licenced Brewing but now I'm slightly paranoid, have I ever tasted the real deal?. Beck's, Carlsberg, Heineken, Stella Artois, Kingfisher Larger, Tiger Beer Lager and probably many others that I thought were imports are just local licenced brews 😡

Sapporo Premium Beer is made up of malted barley, water, yeast and hops. Asahi Super Dry ingredients from barley, hops, rice, corn, starch. I'd prefer the Sapporo.

The Asahi uses Saaz hops like your Czech Pils you reviewed recently so might taste familiar. Sapporo uses a hop they developed for themselves called Sorachi Ace. I enjoy both but would choose Sapporo for that unique Japanese taste. I did think both used Rice somewhere in the brew so interesting if they don’t when brewed overseas. Cheers!

Not even close taste to a czech lagers. Asahi is just a typical thin continental piss water with disgusting chemical aftertaste. I don't trust that they really use czech Zatec hops anymore. You would never get this unpleasant chemical sort of bitterness in czech beers.

You got it right the first time, it is Asahi Super DRY. Asahi owns Peroni so makes sense they would use them to brew their own beer for distribution to the west. In the US, it’s all brewed from Italy.

for this summer i ordered a case of asahi, sapporo and kirin all not brewed in japan anymore for the european market. for me kirin is the worst while sapporo and asahi is very close with asahi edging it out for me (it is just cleaner). but i gotta say i remember asahi being dryer than it is now and thus having a cleaner taste. guess it is only a matter of time until i need to drop it now.

Appreciate this comparison. Haven't had Sapporo for "donkey's years", think I got a Japanese original one to try from a specialist "Offy" in Lincoln around '80 or '81 and they still had the pint shaped tin back then. The Asahi is interesting as I believe it's now available on draught in Fullers pubs as they now own the brewing side of Fullers. Don't think the Chiswick brewery would have the capabitilty to brew a decent lager. They should just stay with the nectar that is ESB!

Does Sapporo beer have rice in it? Answer. Many popular Japanese beers like Sapporo, Kirin, and Asahi are rice-based, and even Budweiser uses rice along with barley in its brewing process. Sapporo Premium Beer is made up of malted barley, water, yeast and hops.
