  • Watch Faye Dunaway freak out for almost two hours in a film that was definitely a unique moviegoing experience back in 1981.

Very interesting. I remember her being a really scary character!

The movie was so camp and over the top crazy. I couldn’t help but love it. Oh! I side with Joan Crawford, “They were spoiled rotten children”.😂😂😂

I saw mommie dearest on videotape in 2000. About two and a half years ago i bought it on dvd.i treasure it.to me it is a valuable, important, and powerful look about family violence and dysfunction.i never laugh at it.i never think it is funny.

Christina Crawford's adopted brother has always defended her account, and has expressed hatred for their adoptive mother. On the other hand, the other two of Joan Crawford's adopted children have contested the allegations of abuse, and promote a positive perception of the late actress.

I believe Christina too glad she spoke out.

Even though Christina sold the rights of her book to the studio, she herself denounced the film and its representation of Joan Crawford. She called it “grotesque.” ua-cam.com/video/U29_LEH9AeQ/v-deo.html
The film’s most outrageous moments were never even in the book Christina wrote.

I remember thinking this was a horror movie when I first saw it. I thought she was going to kill the kids.

Dunaway was convinced this movie would win her an Oscar. Ouch!😬
Interviewers are expressly forbidden to ask her about it.

Her reticence is ironic given that is almost certainly one of the roles for which Dunaway will be best remembered. Younger audiences may not be tuning in so much to 'Bonnie and Clyde' and 'Chinatown', but even up and coming drag queens and gay men coming of age today are conversant with 'Mommie Dearest' and Dunaway's iconic representation of Crawford.

@@barrymoore4470 it,s a cult classic. Bette Davis would have embraced that, Crawford probably not so much. 🙄
