    Vacuum reserve canister under trunk lid. It's for releasing the trunk when car isn't running = via vacuum. Release button is in the glovebox. The other '69 Hurst Olds convertible just sold for $350K. It was north of the little town of Madrid. Live nearby, had no idea all those years.

    • @musclecarsyndicate
      @musclecarsyndicate  2 дні тому +2

      I never knew the car existed either until I saw the auction listing for it back around May of 2024 or so. I then saw it at the Madrid car show in September and then again at MCACN in November. It's was pretty cool, and I wish I could've got a detailed video on it with all of the vintage pictures and memorabilia. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment.

    In the late 70's I had a 68 H/O. Bought it for 500 bucks with a blown engine. One the many cars I wish I could have kept. Trunk release is vac operated, oddly enough the power door locks were also vac operated if so optioned.

      @musclecarsyndicate Your welcome! Was the engine installed at Hurst Specialty, specifically in these cars? Also were the shifters installed there, or the factory? Check out Lou Costabiles, My car story. Many terrific classics. 69' F-85 W31, 4 speed beauty. Brochures of the era also. Rear axle gear, available from 2.65:1 - 4.66:1. 🎆🏁

    Thanks for the video. Amazing they're still out there, especially a '69 H/O. Back in the day we called that a Mail Box Hood. If I remember correctly, the original TH400 would have had a special Hurst ID tag on the side. Quite a big dollar project for a H/O lacking the original "Money" block. Peace.

      @@musclecarsyndicate An original TH400 would have a metal tag mounted on the right side of the transmission stamped "OH". It would also show "69 "for model year and the sequential serial number for the transmission. The left hand side would be stamped with the same partial VIN as on the engine block.

    Get a decent wire brush and scrub the differential tube a few inches from the right hand side facing the front of the car close to the brake line holder. There's a code there that will tell you what the application was. The Hurst /Olds had codes specific to it. This car has disc brakes and the W-46 H/O option so the code should read 4400
    JL2 WITH W46 C D
    SH 3.23 42-13
    SJ 3.42 41-12
    SL 3.91 43-

    Nice video. Great car. Not a Cutlass though. Actual 442. Also, I am almost certain this one is a W-45 (non-air). W-45 got more aggressive engine parts and had 10 more hp.

    • @musclecarsyndicate
      @musclecarsyndicate  День тому +1

      Yes, I overlooked the "344" VIN and should have talked about how the car was essentially a debadged 442 that just so happened to have a 455 installed in place of the 400. I believe the W-45 vs W-46 was a 68 thing, but I'm probably wrong, but I do know the 1970 Olds Rallye 350 was labeled W-45. I'm always willing to learn, so it looks as though I have more research ahead of me. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment.

    Nice car, shame it's missing it's soul. That's what makes all the difference . It still can be enjoyed regardless just going to cost some cash to get the basic mechanicals up to driving condition .

    • @musclecarsyndicate
      @musclecarsyndicate  2 дні тому

      I agree but there's some gray area on the cars history after the first owner. I'm guessing it just got ran hard and blew up and the 70 455 was a suitable and available replacement. It will be cool to see it back on.the streets as is though. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment.

    • @michaelroberts6450
      @michaelroberts6450 2 дні тому

      @@musclecarsyndicate Vehicles of this nature not having their original engine happens . The car has some value and once drivable again the enjoyment of getting it going and putting some miles on it makes up for it. The '70 442 engine is about the best replacement your going to find, it could be rebuilt to '69 Hurst Olds specifications, Heads, cam ground to the factory lift, duration and lobe angle, intake and carburetor and other parts. At least it's getting something done instead of collecting dust. Owner should be enthusiastic about it but be careful original old parts on the rest of the car ain't pretty but they keep it as honest as it can be.

  • @72442conv
    @72442conv День тому +2

    I would not worry about the original engine or heads. The Vaunted Oldsmobile D and F heads did not flow any better than the E heads you have or C heads or any of the early big valve olds heads, they are cool as they are what came with the car but there is no performance difference. The original block is nothing different than what you have there except for the casting numbers, again no performance gain. Being that it no longer has the original engine in it, I would just build a nice street engine with a nice modern cam, either ported steel or aluminum heads, a set of good headers, and probably a repo W-30 intake so that I could adapt a repo 70-72 OAI cold air setup (I would definitely need to have that). Restore the car and enjoy it. To make this car correct is way too expensive and you will probably never get your money out of it. Restore it, make it nice and if later on you find all the correct pieces you can put it back to the way it was. Haggerty list a #1 Hurst Olds at 75K and a #2 61K getting all the original parts would probably cost over $30K, heads, block, intake, carb, distributor, OAI box etc... not worth it IMHO.
