The Pharoah's last stand at We Out Here Festival 2022. Tenor Saxophone - Pharoah & Tomoki Sanders Piano - Davis Whitfield Drums - Gene Calderazzo Bass Fiddle - Oli Hayhurst
I lived in Texas in the early 80s. My friend, Princess, was a close friend of his and brought him to my house. He was so quiet and deep. He sat at my old upright piano and played for her and me. It was so beautiful I'll never forget that day. He signed my album I had of him. This right here made me cry sweet tears. Thank you Pharaoh Sanders and Princess. I was kind of down contemplating the future, now I know it's going to be alright
This is so particularly touching for me. I had introduced my son to Jazz music in 2001 . I somehow always wanted MR Sanders to be the first jazz live experience for my son. When we had that chance to see Mr Sanders at the Birdland in NY the show was sold out. SO i figured there will be another chance somehow, but there were no more chances, except this chance here which me and son fianally got to see...
His last performance.. Aug 28, 2022 He left his body Sept 24, 2022 He was committed to sharing his musical message of peace and love until the end. I am grateful that his music found it's way into my life in 1971..and he is still top of my favorites. An amazing musical journey.
I've literally never cried so hard in my life over a single performance. This is pure emotion. The entire breadth of the human experience concentrated into a few notes from an old master who can barely raise his hand above his head but still has one last gift for us.
It is like he knew he only had a few more notes to play in life and told the story of his soul one last time, a beautiful song Pharoah and I am sure the outer universe is boogying big time :)
Hey played in this park in Sacramento when I was 14 and I still remember how his saxophone sounded. He could play off the stone amphitheater and make these incredible over tones. I was instantly a fan.
I'm a 74 native Chicagoan...born on the southside. I started listening Pharoah Sanders my senior year in highschool. I was 19 then. He studied with Coltrane, but branched out on his own...that's the way it's suppose to be. Spritual Jazz, Pharoah was a master... when i want to get into some deep thought and listen to some heavy, cold-blooded musicians, i reach for Pharoah Sanders. Watching this video chokes me up and makes me weep.
In a world where no video could do this performance justice, you've captured something nothing short of a historical moment. A beautifully tasteful edit to accompany. Mr. Deluxe, you've doing the lords work. Forever grateful.
I had the incredible honor to see Pharaoh play at the Dakota Club in Minneapolis 7 years ago (2017). I brought friends to the first set. They left, but I stayed to watch the second set. I came back the second day and watched both sets in a row. That was an incredible experience.
The way he held the microphone out to the crowd......so humble....it's like he's expressing "it's your turn now" & "you all each and everyone have mattered as much as me".
I was quite reluctant to see this video, but was truly moved by it. It brought tears to my eyes. Pharoah Sanders was the closest I had ever been to seeing one of the truly great jazz masters. Having seen him in the early 80's, playing in Grant Park, Chicago, and again at the Jazz Showcase in '04, I wanted to remember him as one of the most Prolific saxophonists of all time. He undoubtedly was. This man was an outstanding musician, and his high energy channeled through everyone in the entire audience. I will always be grateful having had the opportunity to see Pharoah live. Although this video somewhat broke my heart, my memories will never change. As for this last performance, there are no words big enough to describe the awe I felt... RIP
At first i thought how cruel and was not going to watch it. But the power of the first note hooked me. This is a beautiful sound and truly looks like it cane from the heart and not from memory.
Saw him in 69 and he was a wall of sound. Crazy so much energy coming out of one man. Trane picked him as a sideman and he said he wasn’t that schooled yet. Trane knew
Wow, his last performance....I heard Welcome in there, thought I heard the bass part for Ole, and fitting that his last two songs ever were The Creator and the Power of Love was his last song sung live to a crowd...just magical........and fitting......what a treasure.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful remembrance. Our hearts are full, we have been touched. Now he is with the stars. Thank you for illuminating the way for us, pharaoh sanders .
I will ALWAYS love this man. Every time he was at the Village Gate in NYC (and Sweet Basil and Village Vanguard), I was there. Rest in Jazz Heaven & THANKS for the music 🎵
a thousand thanks to rodney deluxe for sharing this video with us. countless thanks to the maestro pharaoh for sharing your life & spirit with us. your lights shines on well beyond forever..... harmony, wholeness & grace.....
NORBERT .
I first listened to this man in 1972…. Pharaoh Sanders along with Rahsaan Roland Kirk pulled me out of a sad state of depression & re-energized me! I am forever thankful !!
I been listening to Pharoah Sanders since the 60's but got the chance to see him but got his music to listen to for as long as i want to. and may you rest in peace
I had the tremendous honour and a once in a lifetime expirience to see Mr Sanders live on the 7th Nov 2018. He was a messenger or the highest order. The whole place was estatic. Finally we were all at the Church! His spirit and music lives forever.
He was one of my heros, even though I saw him only once performing. He was one of the most spiritual musicians I know about. He inspired me so much, may you have a blessed new incarnation.
His music, "The Creator Has A Master Plan," has been with me from the time I first heard it 1969 and realized that heaven was real and I could hear it. Thankyou Pharaoh Sanders.
I have a feeling he knew his time was close this Performance was like him closing the book on his journey of life and beautiful music how bitter sweet bless this man rest easy. Your music will always carry on
Pharaoh Sanders was so far above the level of a musician. He is such a beautiful person and he most definitely still lives in ever person who has heard even a single note of his expressions.
I know no other artist in the world that would play his instrument in a wheelchair, none other that the Grand Pharaoh himself, such a great man, the most high welcomes you ❤

I saw him at birdland a few years back and his band was incredible. Played as an extension of one another, really feeling each other deeply. Very grateful to have witnessed this great man.
This is my first time knowingly listening to the king, I’m getting strong reminders of Baba Ram Dass when he was near his passing. It’s more than just the image of an elder, it’s the immense shifts of energy as novelty (the chaotic potential born of free will) gives way to conservation (the return to order and cyclical motion). I don’t know what I’m really talking about here, it’s just a feeling I can’t wrap words around, and I’m thankful for that
Love. Light and Peace. Your music will forever comfort us. Robala ka khotso. O kgoshi ya di kgoshi when it comes to jazz. Pass our greetings to other ancestors like John Coltrane. Peace
Humbly speaking, I had the honor of meeting the King 👑, in Minneapolis at the Dakota Bar and Grill some years ago. I, made my to the green room after the performance, greeted him As-salamu alaykum and he invited me in we talked. We left the green room together, as he held my hand walking through the back hall. I was 15yrs old when I got introduced to his music "The Creator has a Master Plan" and I still listen to it to this day. I was honored to meet the man, the human and spiritual being 🙏🏽. Peace and Love 🎷Pharoah🎷 👑
Pharoah Sanders music is a gift to humanity, bridging higher realms of sound and awareness to our musical world. Very moving to see him on stage on last time...
Wow! I saw him at New Paltz College in 1970 in a show at a funky auditorium with zero ambiance or lighting, not exactly a packed house. my Memory thinks he did about a 90 minute set without musical pause.... the highlight being some rapturous moment when the wailing, the quartet, was so powerful reaching some energy moment where he took his Sax and (it was on a strap) kind of tossed it behind him and leaned forward and beat his chest .. all in the music.. like there was nothing left to say... and some of us rose out of our seats Pushed by him Elevated , energized.. as his band played on.
Mr. Sanders a devine inspiration RIP in your astral journal.---I hear it in this beautiful saxophone performance. May God Bless You and The Family! In Peace🌹
Ferrell Lee Sanders; October 13, 1940 - September 24, 2022) was an American jazz saxophonist. Known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound", Sanders played a prominent role in the development of free jazz and spiritual jazz through his work as a member of John Coltrane's groups in the mid-1960s, and later through his solo work. He released more than thirty albums as a leader and collaborated extensively with vocalist Leon Thomas and pianist Alice Coltrane, among many others. Fellow saxophonist Ornette Coleman once described him as "probably the best tenor player in the world.
it's crazy last August I was happy that he was alive and was still performing. Today "As You Are" pops up in my playlist. I check to see how's Pharaoh doing. I was so sadden that he passed away. What's worse, not one mention on the news or on the radio. I feel so sick about it.
He performed for an audience at 81 years of age, a mere 30 days before his passing.
What a blessing!
Truly! A❤💐❤Blessing.
@@graceandgratitude9256 What a great appreciation to give him the audience.
The rolling stones are 165 yrs old today and still going strong , at 81 yrs young this guy was a novice .
It was a long wait before he came out and his son brought him lovingly to his chair. I feel so privileged to have been there at his last performance.
Yes of course.
That's A-1 family, that is
Peace and Love for Every Man. I play tenor. I am 77. You know this man touched my heart.

Oh yes.....hairs standing up all listening to this....spiritual bliss.
His body was failing him, but his sweet sounds of music were still just as powerful and meaningful as ever. Rest in Peace, you legend. ❤
Wow. He can barely move, but when he put the sax. to his mouth, dynamite
Completely blew me away, it doesn't ever leave you, i think
