Funny thing is
In the book version from what I've heard pa is not only understanding but is in the know pretty early and even gives Pat some advice
In the series version she's not only viewed as completely oblivious but countless times even comes across as a little bit stupid
In my personal rankings that I made (5 tiered) I realised that I see pa as middle
Tier 1 is fuckin legendary with people like Pran, Pat and uncle tong (for obvious reasons)
Tier 2 is good with people like Korn and the engineering faculty who are actually the good set of friends
Tier 3 is meh have the architecture faculty (minus wai) and pa (whilst I don't hate her she can be completely removed from the story altogether and nothing changes PatPran would still be a thing and the parents would still have hatred towards eachother also the "white" equivalent of her is literally a blonde bimbo pretty but stupid)
Tier 4 is they exist people like Pran's dad is rarely seen enough and ink becomes little more than pa's shadow and that's it (she's relegated to pa's girlfriend)
Tier 5 is characters I actually hate are the obvious main 2 Pran's mum and wai

I'm curious if other people would have put certain characters in different tiers
But I usually get people implying that I either didn't understand the characters properly or that I hate the show in general when actually Bad Buddy the series is my only comfort series
It's implied in the book (and at times the series) that Pran is suffering or has suffered with depression (notes with smiley faces might be a subtle way of reminding Pran it's okay to smile and laugh and the door hanger that can be a happy or sad face might be a reminder to Pran that it's okay to be sad)
Depression is a relatable topic (even if subtly hinted in the background) it's a happy and wholesome series so it makes sense not to make depression such a focal point but still show him slowly getting better
Pat managed to pick Pran up, look Pran in the eyes and tell him he's perfect just the way he is
And that is a positive message to send to the audience (especially with the age rating of 13+)
Find someone who brings you up and accepts you warts and all (not that Pran has warts 😂)
I didn't misunderstand the characters and I don't hate the show, I hate how some of the characters were written for instance as I've mentioned before pa comes across as ditzy and even self centered at times
Wai is so creepy and weird (and has such a strong narcissistic personality it's actually surprising that Pran and wai are friends considering wai has character traits that we know Pran doesn't like so my guess is that Prans mum made the choice of wai to be Prans friend )
wai is odd and not in a flattering or quirky way but taking photos of pa in episode 8 (1 without her consent and 2 without knowing her age considering how young she looks) then the controversial moment of episode 7 where Pran is trying to back away from wai while wai is leaning on Pran trying to kiss him (joke or not Pran said no)
Pran's mum is a case of "what's right with her"
She lied to Pran and tells him that next doors kids don't like him meanwhile episode 1 told us different with pa literally calling Pran "hot as always" and Pat perving on a topless Pran (something I can't blame him for as if Pran was my neighbour I can't promise I'd act differently) but to slap your son when he's finally standing up to you is too far
In episode 10 just before she leaves Pat's family home she makes a comment about Pat's dad shouldn't teach his kids to hate hers or something like that
Which makes her a hypocrite as well as a child abuser
It says a lot that the best parent out of the 4 is Prans dad and that's probably because he's rarely seen
It would have been nice to hear what Prans dad thinks of his son dating Pat as I've had a theory that Prans dad would have been the perfect person for Pran to confide in and I think he would have been absolutely fine with it as long as Pat makes Pran happy
I think you have the concept down 100%, A lot of the fandom didn’t read the novel so never understood the characters and use this as Canon, I like that P’Aof changed all the toxic things about the novel like the Pat’s arranged marriage, InkPa, Pat being a Dominant Top but I wished they had kept some characters the same from the novel like Pa & Wai.
I would also be curious about what Pat’s dad opinion is but more importantly Pran’s dad as he doesn’t seem to say anything on the matter either.

Whilst I didn't directly read the book myself personally I did do some research as I was curious about the differences so I watched a few videos of people reading some of it (not the full reading but enough to roughly understand the story) and I was a little surprised that not many people were aware of the books version of events
In the book I think they did actually split up which is why episode 12 spoilers were sad if you get the book reference
Also Yeah I think it was definitely for the best that a few things were changed from book to series
I think it was toned down for the age rating
And I love that even the sexualities appear to be different as in the book I think Pat is bi but the series clarifies that he's Pansexual to make the story make more sense to an audience that might be unaware of it but it's simple Pat loves Pran because he's Pran and the show heavily implies that Pran is
Demisexual , like Pat , Pran would consider himself gender blind as his comment in episode 9 about maybe liking girls means he isn't fussed about gender but we know that he has a special bond with Pat since childhood that slowly developed into a crush
Also the versatility in the relationship is perfect
And Pat finding enjoyment from Pran "punishing" him did kinda give happily submissive vibes but it was cute
As for Pat's dad's opinion on Pran I don't think his problem is Pran I get the impression it is specifically just Prans mum
I believe that they make pa like that to make the inkpa work? Because i remember inkpa only appears in the series, as a way for gmmtv to test put whether lesbian couple will gain attraction

I would recommend you watch A Tale of a Thousand Stars (Same Director as Bad Buddy) and then you can watch the Our Skyy 2 Bad Buddy Special Episodes from 2023.

wwhen the episode first started I was starting to root for the mom until she messed it up and said he can love anyone except the neighbors. But I’m so happy that this bl didn’t do the typical parents don’t want their sons to be gay and they did I different turn of it and made it to where the problem isn’t that he like boys it’s that she just doesn’t want him to love or like anyone next door. I like how the teacher was so cool about the whole pic thing and even gave pran heart fingers cause she thought he was adorable and I don’t know about you but I’m totally shipping ink and pa so much their so cute and you rarely see a girlxgirl ship. I wish that pats dad and prans mom would stop trying to live through their sons it’s annoying and toxic. And pat and pran flirting through this episode was so on point it had me blushing the whole time like a school girl and I don’t like how wai basically keeps pressuring and guilt tripping pran into doing stuff he signed up for knowing he wouldn’t have the time for it when he’s playing a sport like it’s selfish and toxic to but the director of the show said that wai isn’t a good person and you’ll notice it more later on. But it’s so cute when they where flirting in prans room and he said he always wanted to fix his favorite meal for the person he likes and tried to feed pat that was pran silently asking if pat likes h so if pat would have ate it it would basically be like pat admitting he likes him first and losing the bet that’s why he turn it away and right away left the room because he was gonna cave in if he stayed any longer and they did a call back from that scene because at the end once again pran made the same meal again and when pat tried to eat it pran takes the spoon and tries to feed him once again his way of silently asking if pat likes him but this time pat eats it without hesitation and nanon whips his mouth for him while staring into his eyes something only a lover would do because now that’s basically what they are. It’s the small details that are so cute to me I just can’t deal but I laughed so hard when pa was outside yelling for someone to open the door poor girl probably peed herself or was about to cause they wanted to be cute and funny I would have been upset. It’s cute how when pa asked pat if she thinks it’s a boy or girl who is her mentor he thought it was a boy because of neat hand writing and it smelled good ( all things he noticed and likes about pran) so now he always thinks it’s a guy when it comes to those two things instantly. And during wai telling pran the back story to the play all those moments were what happened between pat and pran after they came back from the trip and before the second semester started.
