    How embarrassing..... I've been watching these videos for 5 or 6 years now since I found BBT, and only just now recognized that's Dave Gregory from XTC on second guitar. I've spent all this time watching him and thinking I knew him from somewhere else....

      Probably in Top 5 in current Neo and Prog Music performing today? A very solid band but in my opinion #1 in this Music Genre performing today is "Steven Wilson". Sometimes we agree to disagree which is Ok...

      I hear you. I've been a fan of SW's stuff for 17 years, but BBT to me is climbing above SW. Steve tends to lean a bit too much on the pop side of music for my taste (Raven aside, IMO his best album with any project), but then again, I came of age during the Genesis/JT/KC/UK/Yes 'golden years' of prog, so BBT resonates much more with me than SW. Again, no disrespect to SW, his albums are tremendous (esp. in surround sound), but BBT is more "earthy" to me, if that makes sense. To each his own! :-)

      I’m a massive fan of both BBT & SW and having seen BBT live on 1st Oct, believe me they are absolutely awesome. My favourite band bar none. Prog is my thing. These guys are totally unique.

    The full version of this track on the album IMHO is in the top three songs BBT has ever written. I haven't stopped listening to it since it was released. I think I prefer the overall album to Folklore, but only just.

    What a shame...shame on me! I knew this band just as a "name". Never heared anything from them for many years; Just for a case I discovered them few months ago, and the first time I had the same "illumination" that I had when in the very far 1972, I met for a case, of course, Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull
    Big Big train...Big Big band; I love them so much...

    Schade für die zu schnellen Schnitte - eine Untugend, die auf fast alle aktuellen Livevideos etc. zutrifft. Was soll das? Ansonsten schöne Mucke, wie auch anders bei dieser Kompetenz.

    Good, but where is the progressive rock ?

    • @MaxLambertini
      @MaxLambertini 6 років тому +1

      It's still there, in the same veins of old Genesis tracks like "I know what I like", "The Carpet Crawlers" or "Afterglow". Progressive rock does not have to be a sterile quest for technical prowess in itself. _Au contraire_, if "catchy" refrains open the door for some unorthodox sounds for the masses, so be it :-)

  • @MrPonkine

    What happened to you folks? You used to create MASTERPIECES like 'Underfall Yard' and 'English Electric part 1 & 2' (and the Full Power, certainly). But now, both Folklore and this new couple of songs from 'Grimpsound' sounds like you gather together without any new musical ideas, and then picking up your instruments to see if something happens. There's no spark, no magical moments, wonderful melodies, memorable chords progressions, etc. Kinda "Big Big Train by numbers". Perhaps you need to take a break and reinvent yourselves.

    • @mollywilliams4782
      @mollywilliams4782 7 років тому +1

      MrPonkine, you're the first person I've found who agrees with me. Everyone goes on about Folklore but I feel that way too.

    • @JoelJMusic
      @JoelJMusic 7 років тому +1

      Folklore was good, but not great. It had its moments, but there aren't any "classics". Ideas (lyrical and musical) have been rehashed, and the melodies are no where near as memorable. I also feel like that since they performed live and have taken on new members, they've been slightly more stripped back. You go back to underfall yard and you see layers upon layers of vocals and guitar and brass etc, whereas now they are a live band, they are less inclined to go all out in the studio. This I think takes away some of the epicness of the original sound.

      Brave Captain and A Mead Hall in Winter; are on my opinion, BBT finest compositions so far. There's so much to listen. This song is stripped of the amazing intro, and the extended instrumental parts. Also, what's so wrong with them wanting to make money out of their music? Listening to them over the years after their big "hits" I've seen them get better gear, adding more production values, bringing in more stuff into the songs.

    • @JoelJMusic
      @JoelJMusic 7 років тому +2

      Since the album has come out this song, and many others, have grown on me a lot. I still don't think it reaches the heights of Underfall Yard/English Electric, but it is an excellent album. I love Brave Captain. Great song.

    I was hooked on English Electric but WTF happened to this band?I even thought bringing in Dave Gregory was genius but boy was I wrong.This along with Folklore is folk rock by the numbers with virtually none of the progressive elements that made me take notice in the first place. Who would have known that after the brilliant English Electric, the band would take the biggest nose dive of their career?Thanks, but no thanks. I'm out!
