Very helpful , professional and informative ; I’m not sure that Louisiana has your school here... but some appraisal schools now offer some online portions and of course , some nitty gritty hands on or practical mirroring with an appraiser ... since each state has different requirements, be sure to mention educational requirements for each state... and how , also , one can learn from online sources ... depending on which state you live in. It would be good to do a video where you show a few pointers on why your school is the best choice .. and why. Thank you.
Be aware that 200 to 300 licensed/certified appraisers are dropping out of the appraisal occupation each month. Yes that is PER MONTH. There has been a 3% drop in the number of appraisers each year for the past ten years. Look up "US valuation profession fact sheet" for the current data. Why would you earn a college degree, appraisal classroom education, serve apprentice status for peanuts for years, state exams, dues, fees, etc. Just to drop out along with those who have gone ahead of you. Check out the truth before you commit to this. Other than that....come on in the water is just fine! LOL
Hello Will and thank you for your response. I am a certified general appraiser as well as a real estate broker. I have prepared appraisals of subdivisions, ranches, high-rise office buildings, highway right-of-way, slope easements, drainage easements, temporary construction easements, flood plain, national guard armories, many houses, etc. I say all of my original post after over 40+ years of experience. The appraisal business has been good to me as well as others. However the times have changed. If you earn a general appraisal certification and are capable of doing good work on commercial properties as well as expert witness in court you can still do good. However for the effort expended to reach that status is more than required to be a good attorney or engineer. Those professions pay much better!
In residential real estate appraisal, from what I hear, you have these intermediary companies that take up to half your pay, while the scope of work involved in doing an appraisal has gone through the roof. Doesn't seem like an inviting field to enter.

Do you need bachelor degree to be be a home appraiser?
You need a degree in Canada. I think in the states now too.
