- Join our weekly Combat Check-In Newsletter (www.combatstory.com/newsletter) to get a short email from Ryan for people who love and support our veterans, service members, and their families. It has info on a significant event in military and/or intel history, a funny military joke, an update on a current event I'm following, something I'm doing that week in my life, a book I'm reading, a look at an upcoming interview, a reflection on a past episode and more.
Today we hear the Combat Story of Travis Hall, an Army Ranger and Special Forces Green Beret who survived 18 combat deployments post-9/11 to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Niger. You heard that correctly: 18 deployments.

Travis was an 18D (Special Forces Medic) and one of the first K-9 handlers deployed with the Green Berets in combat. He’s been in day long firefights, run both high and low vis ops, trained thousands of partner forces, and survived some incredibly difficult operations.
Travis founded Second Chance K9, which is a rescue organization that pairs working military dogs with special operations veterans suffering from PTSD. He also runs Second Chance Medical Consulting, where he provides private and semi-private training on firearms and medical aid.
After 18 deployments over almost two decades, Travis’ positive approach to life and his focus on making people’s (and dogs’) lives better is tangible.
I hope you enjoy this Combat Story of someone who spent many years deep in our wars (with and without a dog at his side) as much as I did. And if you do enjoy it, I hope you’ll subscribe and leave a positive review (it would mean a lot).

18 deployments? This man is amazing!! Thank You for your service sir!!!!!
He's still in the massachusettes national guard serving in the 20th special forces. Just a cool dude
@@LP3me but he still did 18 deployments which is alot . I give him alot of credit for keeping on going out and getting deployed.
@@LP3me 6 months was my average. My shortest was 4 months when I was medivac'd out of country
I didn’t mean any disrespect. What you did for our country is not comparable to anyone else. I should just delete my comment. I appreciate your lifetime of service.
@@LP3me none taken man. I am proud of all the guys and gals that deployed. You are correct in that the JSOC guys tend to do a shorter rotation. I wasn't ever in a JSOC unit only Green Beret Units. Typical GB Deployment is around 6/8 months on the ground with a work up prior to deploying thanks for the love homie
Travis, so pleased that you included the Vietnam Vets. They have been left out and abused so they just disappeared into society. They deserved to be honored. My Son is named “Travis” and turns 50, 17Dec21.
His Dad did 2 tours in Vietnam’67/‘68/‘69 as a Crew Chief/Door Gunner flying Green Berets into Cambodia.
Travis Hall is an awesome guy I'm lucky had the opportunity to meet him.
He was lucky to meet you as well jerry j.
100% would agree with the young man's comment below this is one of my favorite UA-cam channels..the stories these men have the insight to what they have done to get to there.. this channel is just unbelievable.. Can't even think of any other way to describe these guys but just awesome men who have done awesome things for their country.. Keep up the good work. Rangers lead the way 375
My favorite channel by far! The courage it takes for these guys to open up is honorable and we couldnt ask for a better host!
Mr. Travis Hall has many life intersections with my own. Sadly, my fate did not intersect in regard to S.F. He is evidence of the humanity of soldiers, and the strength of character of a Special Forces team member. I certainly identify with his kinship with our dear friends in the K9 realm🐕🦺 and the mentality of protecting those that deserve my loyalty. Thank you to our host and guest for a great interview 👍🏻
Travis is incredible guy. Have seen him several times before and support his organization. Ryan you did a marvelous job of letting him speak and tell his story. 👍👍👍
Love the K9 insight. Bear sounds just phenomenal! Hope he kept his nuts and he fathered the best next generation of shepherds/malinois. Incredible breed, incredible fella here in this episode! Class act, wish he'd brought Bear on camera!
Travis was an instructor I had at a course, super awesome & crazy competent with mad skills. Definitely a class favorite as he is truly world class!
Him talking about his dog bro... Got me choked up. Dogs are the best people
Really need to comment more because I genuinely watch every single episode. Thank you again for doing this as well to all of you who come on to share your stories.
No proper words of appreciation, but without a doubt, my favorite UA-cam channel. Thanks again.
This channel is like therapy. There’s always a new interview to listen to. It helps fulfill a part of something that was lost after serving. I really enjoy each interview. I appreciate the channel and the time you take to interview these guys. It does a lot for veterans and civilians alike I’m sure.
Super guy!! Could not have been a better interview! People like Travis make this world better. Thank you for your service & your compassion
Ryan love how Travis mentioned WW2 veterans. I really wish someone had interviewed my grandmother-in-law about her role in the Australian Army prior to her passing away. She did Morse code and was based on Rottnest Island of Western Australia 🇦🇺. To my knowledge no one recorded her story.
It is awesome to hear these stories about these vets that actually got to do something I was in the army as a 11B1P airborne Infantryman and I got the short straw out of basic I guess I went strait to fort polk and didn't get to go and do anything I was the one training the guys about to go overseas and when I got out I fought with the va since 2018 to about last month they kept saying I never served and I kinda just excepted it and I don't really feel like I did anything anyway so it is what it is I got Paid to play lazer tag so I don't do anything with the va benefits or anything like that but I love hearing these kind of story's you do an amazing job with this keep it up
You have to interview Sean Rogers. He’s a former green beret. His story is absolutely amazing. You can check him out at FNG Academy
Everyone has interviewed Buck, Ryan interviews the lesser known guys. If you want another good podcast, listen to the Shawn Ryan Show and the Global Recon Podcast.
Never particularly impressed with Rogers. Seemed to always be ready to quit. Travis did 18 deployments not a couple like “Buck” Rogers
@@justrod0731
Check out The Team House as well.
This guy is the definition of humanity! Obviously found his niche in life! Self sacrificing and humble!!
Excellent interview, thank you guys!
Another fantastic episode Ryan. Travis’s story was inspiring both during his deployments, and the work he’s doing now with military dogs and SF veterans. It was definitely emotional hearing him talk about being reunited with Bear, and the the dogs retirement to him. Thank you both.
Thanks to the two of you for your service.
I've had the good fortune to get some med training from Doc T and the stories/anecdotes alone are worth the price of admission. You get to hang with a maligator too!!!
Your one in service, outstanding!!
My wife's son,Iraq, Afghanistan,and now on 2nd "tour" Ukraine.
Thank you for service.
Great episode! Especially the K9 parts. I retired as a dog handler from state service. Love those dogs!
I guess I am not the only poor retired guy (2020) that is struggling with never having the opportunity to be deployed again. I am making due but I actually found out after retiring that there is no going back in. If given the opportunity, I would sign immediately. Thank you all for your service.
Same here. After iraq they told me I would never deploy as infantry again. That was 2011 and I'm still struggling with myself. I just keep trusting God and what he wants me to do
Really enjoyed this one. Like to hear from the healers. A lot of people have a misconception that medics can't be ballers. Thank you both for your service and stories.
This is a fantastic episode! Blasting The DKM down range is about the coolest thing I’ve heard this year.
These interviews are the most enjoyable and instructive times I have on the internet. I'm a vet but way predating all the things these men talk about.
And of course the whole thing comes together because you are such a good interviewer. You ask good questions and then let the man give a full answer.
I watched pretty much all of your interviews and enjoyed them very much especially with Shrek. But this interview is by far my favorite one. His energy and cool, optimism would have made me feel very comfortable to be on a team and hang with bear. Thank you for your work in the military with the agency and what you do now providing us with information about many stories and information for us civilians to possibly undertake these same task as the many men you have interviewed. Thank you Ryan
Ryan this has to be one of the best interviews I have watched/listened to. I started at your first interviews and have gotten this far. Excellent.
Travis is a great dude doing great things! Thanks for featuring Second Chance K9.
Listening for the 3rd time I can't get enough of the green berets! Yall are my heros! Thank you lord for blessing us with such amazing warriors!
One of the best!
I already felt super connected to Mr Hall then he mentioned Dethklok-bloody classic.
You are by far one of the better interviewers doing any type of podcast. A lot of these guys will not shut up and let the guest talk. Great channel!
This was a great conversation we got to listen in on. Travis, you are awesome! Much respect! I handled K9s (@ss biters, no detection dogs) on the LE side for 15 years. When you spoke of the bond you develop with the dog, it really hit home. It's truly magic when you depend on each other(you and the dog) as a team, how strong that bond is. Also, I wanted to say my last dog, K9 Donja, mal/shep mix female was a wash out from SFs K9 selection. I worked her for 7 years and she was amazing, Despite havingme as a handler. Saved my bacon many times. Deterred many fights for me and won many for me as well. I always felt bad she didn't realize her first job in the SF but I was glad for the chance I got to have a her partner. thanks again for the great episode!
F**kin great interview! Amazing insight to what we/they go through mentally emotionally and physically throughout deployments! Thank you my brother for your service!
#RLTW 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Words cannot express how much respect I have for this guy. He is the epitome of the Quiet Professional. 🇺🇸
Travis 110% top bloke
Awesome interview Ryan. What a fantastic story. I’m in the Nashville area, and I’ll be looking him up for instruction.
Amazing channel with amazing guests and content.
Never Forget💯💯Your Videos of the Stories/Experiences these Brave Men and Women tell are Amazing💯💯 Would love to here Ryan Fugit’s Combat Story🤙🏽
Great stuff! I was a Marine K9 handler and I got to work with Marines, Army, riverines, Seals, SF, Canadians, and Brits. I have to say my fav was working with 7221 in Afghanistan. They treated me like one of the team and would be upset if I tried to come to a team meeting without my girl Tosca.
Fucking love standard 18-series interviews
Ryan, you are doing a wonderful job.
Thanks for the timestamp
18 deployments , holy shit .
Goes to show - don’t ever underestimate anyone .
Congrats on 50k
🏆🏆🏆👍🇺🇲🙏
Thank you for your service 🤗
Thank you for sharing
As a service member myself I love listening to these videos when I make my commute to base, I just wish they were louder on mobile
As much as a beach community, San Diego area has many equestrian and horse centric communities. They range from rural areas that ride Western to the wealthy areas that ride English
What a good dude 👍
Cool guy.
Can't believe all of these videos have such low views I am loving them
Hey, good on ya.
I am ELATED you got BEAR.My Ginger was a family member 14 years. My hunting, fishing and looked after my daughter!!
I stopped hunting over her because thought one day a stray pellet would injure her.Never hunted with her again.
You should get the guys from the “Ones Ready” Podcast on here to tell their stories.
They are all members of AFSOC. They are a mix of CCT, PJs and Special Reconnaissance (formerly SOWT).
Total stud🤙🏼🇺🇸
you can only imagine what hes been through after 18 deployments...the loss and death he must of seen is likely incomprehensible.. Im glad he is doing good with the dogs etc, he seems so level headed and like a humble guy. Youd almost expect someone with 18 deployments to rightfully so have a ego that cant fit in the same room with their bulletproof balls. But dude is like a average joe (in a good way). Respect.
I love the forward thinking uniform concept. If we accept dysfunctional attitudes, then we will get more of this. We can do better. Veterans are the best.
I watched 2/3rds of this podcast thinking this guy was a early 30s surfer dude. 😂 Didn’t expect a outgoing, and optimistic personality from a bit older guy. Pretty cool mindset.
Kickin ass and Savin Dogs 🐕.Awesome dude👍🇺🇸👍
It’d be an absolute honor to shake this man’s hands .
oh man 1:29:30 tears man! such a great ending.
Anyone who broke in or tried to hurt the family with Bear around, would have severely regretted it.
@Combat Story, at 20 min, there is some static sound. Thanks for sharing! Stay safe!
And the credits at the end seems to be a loop. 😉 Again thanks for sharing! Keep them coming!!
Great story's, just a comment back to vincent speranza, was hoping to get his book on audio but they musnt have it, I hope his book come out on audio one day.
Wow
I agree with you on people, I would rather be in the forest than be around humans.
Awesome Ryan, looking forward to it.
Any chance you could get an FBI HRT guy on sometime? Or a ground branch guy maybe?
Interesting idea, however, FBI HRT are not part of the military, I don't know if law enforcement people (SWAT, HRT, ect) are the target of the channel... it's my guess though, I might be wrong
I would like to see this as a video, but as we see today the FBI is part of the evil empire.
@@josuetsang5042 well not necessarily. HRT is one of the nation’s only 3 CT units and almost exclusively works with CAG/DEVGRU overseas. Not a SWAT team at all really.
FBI should be banned from the show. This is about Patriots that love their country, the FBI are traitorous trash. HRT included.
@@Grappler2502
Absolutely. This FBI is a disgrace to all honest law enforcement.
when you switch to him and some other mic comes on and we can hear your lips moving and breathing its a bit hard to continue lol. I know its unintentional but just some constructive criticism to get that removed somehow. It only happens when the guest is speaking
The people being interviewed mics. In particular it’s Travis’ headset cords making contact with the table or some other object.
Great podcast. 18 deployments is hard to imagine. Also If the schedules can align, it would be great to see Tu Lam on this show. He seems to have 3 life times worth of stories.
Tu is great as well
You should do Nicholas Irving
You should as these SF guys if they have done any missions with other allied SF
Yes. All the time
WOW!😳 mirror
Is that the 25th in the top left?
👍
Damn - Thanks for your service Travis and thank you family for us as well. Love the K9 stories - prefer dogs to 99% of people myself. Later...
Travis needs to get on Mike Drop with Mike Ritland!
You know
Have you had Pat Mac on the show?!
30:55
Love your shows why no submarine guy stuff,...., Dolphins.....? After all we were your "Taxi's......
It's OK to admit Travis snatching the Taliban flag off the grave in the middle of a TIC is funny AF 😂😂😂😂😂
I didn’t hear if Travis, being a handler and a 18D, did he have any veterinarian training?
we dabbled in dogs and I def had K9 trauma training but no where near the level of a Veterinarian
@@secondchancek9servicedogs320 wow, something hit me after I asked that. You probably would have villages with sick animals. Prolly not much you could do but I just had this image of someone walking up to you with a goat or cow thats sick.
Thanks for the interview, I will never forget what you’ve done. I mean that.
@@F3PIZZA we get a ton of that kind of training in the Q course but just enough to be dangerous. I am in no way trained up like the Civil Affairs troops are. They get a ton of animal medicine
1:02:02 name a country as many times as possible in one minute
By bear he means ferri. He changed his name after. I never had a problem with ferri Great dog
Thank you for your service.you are a amazing person.sorry for our worthless President and the way he pulled out of Afghanistan.it was a disgrace.
⛩
Ceiling fan?
Korea
Great interview except for the “you know,” a thousand times.
auh hey listen i am an independent researcher with a design for a dynamic nerve bridge prosthetic that will restore full function and feeling in line no visible appearance externally
look at the frank H Netter Book of Human anatomy and you will see the dynamics of the mechanical function and rang of motion related to sensory perception and signals transmission thru the bio mass the is the vascular an muscular skeletal system i was doing that illustration in 9th grade
Algorithm.
It irks me that dudes talk about battalion as a stepping stone in SOF. Maybe pre war sure I get that but that force is so professionalized now. I totally disagree if that were true there wouldn’t be psg with 10 combat deployments coming back
The mic feed back is terrible.
The background noises of lip slapping and breathing are making this hard to listen to
Ryan: Good content but I feel like you simp too much with your guests. Please don’t take it personal. Just being honest.
Who you manage?? George Floyd?
Love supporting Travis. Patron of his Second Chance K9. He’s a great instructor and human being. I’m glad Karl gave him great props. Lol. @secondchancek9
