One thing that concerns me is that wages aren't all that great. Even though some expenses are lower, others are just as high or higher than other parts of the country.
I understand where you are coming from, however, it has been stated on numerous occasions that while we are more expensive than some areas of the country, there are many more expensive places like New York, California, Colorado, Chicago and New Jersey....to name a few. That list is much longer, but I do not have the time to list them all. LOL.
Depends what your job is. Many jobs pay as much as NY now.
@@livinginfortmyersflorida my same fear. I'm up north and we are considering the move but the pay is so bad 😊
Very good video!!
Great video Craig. Lots of good information!! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing we just bought a fixer upper in Estero Bay site unseen and never been to this area lol I know crazy but we are very excited.
Well, that's exciting! I hope it all works out for you.
Do you think that the assesments will affect empty lots in Lehigh Acres? I have one that I inherited.
So far Lehigh Acres does not seem to have an active conversion schedule to convert to water/sewer. Only communities and homes near the center of town have water/sewer. That is based purely on density. Well and septic could never work in crowded areas.

Thank you
Its not just those things. Here's a few more: filthy water in the Colusahatchee River, Red Tide, traffic congestion, outrageous home insurance rates, hurricane damage, lack of a good waterpark/resort destination for vacationers (current waterpark in Cape Coral is dated and horrible), last but not least the "beach vibe" is missing in Ft. Meyers Beach! Pump it up all you want, but for every pro there's a con. I wouldn't live in Ft. Myers/Cape Coral.
Yes, the river water could be better. Red tide happens on occasion and it isnt a burden in most cases. Traffic all along the coast of Florida is going to be heavy. The areas near water are in high demand. insurance rates do not affect everyone the same. Newer construction and updated codes on your home will make it much more affordable. Resort destinations? Really? How about the gulf of Mexico. Try another beach if you don't like Fort Myers. Bonita Beach was beautiful last time I was there (1 month ago). Out on the boat all along the coast I see people on the beaches and loving it. Try it sometime. Beach vibe on FTMB? Give it some time....they are still building back.
I can tell you don’t watch the sunrise and sunsets . The whole of SW Florida deals with everything you mentioned but I am sitting outside phila up for Christmas freezing my butt off !!
You learn how to deal with all the negatives because when it’s a beautiful beach day on Sanibel life is good . 😊
i craig i love your videoa i have a question i hope you can help me i live in new condo its down by marco its 3 stories the first floor is parking floors 2-3 are liveablale floors under the new florida laws on condos are we consider 2 stories or 3 stories under the law every thing i read says were 2 stories
To be as transparent as possible, I need to do a bit more research on that. Interesting concept and it could be that you may be able to escape these requirements.
thank you so much for your trouble let me know when you come up with something
Here is what I found....The Surfside law is found in Senate Bill 4-D. As the law is presently written and interpreted it applies to condominium and cooperative buildings that are 3 stories or more in height. There is no exception for the ground floor being unoccupied. However, there is one exception which is if the building is three stories but does not contain more than 3 Units then the law does not apply. So, if a building was three stories with the first floor being a parking garage and floors 2, 3 containing three or fewer Units the law would not apply.
My biggest fear is never being able to leave.
What's stopping me. It's high real estate prices, high taxes, high insurance, high heat. I am retired, my my fixed income not a chance
Hey Tony, this is why certain areas may not be for everyone. North Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres are more affordable, but you have to exchange something for lower prices. Mainly the proximity to beaches and other amenities. Insurances are solved with new construction for the most part. Heat is a great swap for freezing cold and taxes are a part of life. Pretty sure that California residents can tell you about taxes. Hell, so can Jersey, New York and the entire Northeast!
I would be more concerned with the cost of living than anything else.
Cost of living in a national problem. All of our expenses as a country went through the roof. That isn't a Florida issue, its a USA issue. I have been in a few other states recently and noticed that our expenses as we travel are no different. Some things a little higher, some things a little lower, but overall....similar.
Fears? Or Facts? 1. High Property Taxes. 2. High Insurance (home and car) and 3. Hurricane related problems. Fact is, those fears or facts will be reduced the further when get into a housing crash and home prices continue to fall. Prices still need to drop another 30%.. Wait it out folks, be very careful about buying now…Inventory still growing and prices are beginning to drop.
While nobody has a crystal ball, they have been saying the market is falling at a record pace, yet if you look at the numbers specific to the area, that's not quite right. The price adjustment so far is more realistic sellers. There are some ridiculous prices being asked for the homes. It's the agents that are desperate for a listing and not telling the sellers the reality of the market. If we don't have overpriced listings, you would see very little price movement.
Too many Yankees in Florida as it is now.
Pure extortion. When are people going to wake up and join together. FTG
To many gators and pythons.
Are you serious? LOL.....you must have never visited the area. You have to really work to find them in most cases.
Living in FL since 1991. I’ve only had one gator encounter. A baby gator was in my driveway. I captured him and took him back to the lake across the street. It was a cool experience imo.
Consider that gators live in most Florida waters but you have to really hunt to find pythons. Florida is a beautiful place to live with nice restaurants and shopping, beautiful beaches etc., only problem it can get very hot and muggy, high cost of property taxes and insurance.
Too many people.
Too many people everywhere....lol. Especially if you are in a coastal town anywhere in Florida. Try inland.
