I've been listening to F&F for years now, and I must say that their rendition of this great song "America" is utterly, completely exquisite, better than the original, and suitable for the precincts of heaven itself.
"Ear Candy" is a most inadequate description. I've always loved this S&G song, this re-read into more than two part harmony is bewitching, at least. From a Brit who grew up listening to songs like this as I was growing up this is one of the definitive American songs of my lifetime. I was lucky enough to hear Paul Simon play this tune on his last UK tour, which was a very special experience. This song has some massive shoes to fill but these guys nailed it.
The whole band is great but so glad the camera finally turned onto the superb bass playing near the end. Respect from an old timer 60s bassist. Beautiful playing.
I was pleasantly surprised when the camera was on Scott. The reasons (as I was the videographer) was 1) this was videoed as a momento of the occasion for Tim at his request. This event was originally solely ABOUT THE GIRLS!!! Who would have known 11 yrs ago that ever band member would have become stars in their own right!!! 2) Scott is indeed a phenomenal bass player. But he usually is a bit further stage left and is not usually in a group frame shot except on a center camera. Scott also tends to move around and goes in and out of a frame. In later Twisted Taco vids, he was also blocked a lot by equipment on stage left. And while I don’t remember exactly, I am guessing that as I was shooting from stage left at Bella’s I took a chance on this shot of Scott, hoping that the other two cameras would have a good shot to use in editing -so I could actually shoot Scott doing his thing.
So grateful that Tim had this performance recorded and posted on UA-cam. We get to experience the birth of a special musical group that has breathed life back into so many songs from our past that may have been forgotten
Tim is an awesome vocalist and there are quite a few F&F and Mustangs videos on this channel that make it clear. If you haven't already heard it, check out "Penny Lane."
Just a shout-out to Scott and his bass playing. Easy for it to be overlooked behind the spectacular singing and the other guitars. He adds so much musical interest and texture to the songs. And while, yes, the core competency and beauty of the group's music is the singing and harmonies, we have to remember that it is the bass notes, supplied by Scott, that tell the group what the chords and harmonies are. I also believe that having Scott's bass lines present makes the vocal harmonies that much easier to sing well.
It is amazing the Maggie and Sammie are only 16 and 15-years old respectively when this was filmed. Combined with the band’s performance of Sweet Judy Blue Eyes during the same evening and you have UA-cam GOLD!!!
