You are right, Diane. My friend, the artist who studied art in Russia, also says that Schmincke colours are world class. You can see it in the brilliance and luminosity of your pictures. And if you had erased the masking fluid on bad colours, the colours would certainly have disappeared. The sea turtle is absolutely remarkable. I would have been satisfied with the picture right from the start. But then you draw a line here, a dot there and a blob somewhere else. With each new stroke the picture becomes more complete until it is perfect. You can see this particularly well when you zoom out of the picture. When this picture is further away, it really comes into its own. But my art teacher already said that: "Bilder und Schlachten muss man aus der Ferne betrachten!".
Loving the colors of this guy! I'm amazed at the way they just find their way into each other....I'm sure it more about the skill of the painter than the paint! As always, wonderful video. Thank you!
My 158. Th. It was good to see the -beautiful- reference photo and how you managed not to get stuck in all the details. Nicely done!😊 Colorchoise was convincing and attractive .thanks for sharing. 😊wim
“It’s like when you put your makeup on…” 😂😂😂 hoping for that slightly attractive look…😂 You are so fun to listen to. I adore sea turtles. I did a sketch like this years ago that I was gonna turn into stained glass and never did so I’m gonna find it and attempt this watercolor. It’s beautiful, Diane! I wonder about a starfish. I’ll look and see if you’ve already done that.
I have tried to post the photo to our Facebook group Learn to Paint Watercolour as I can't find the link, only my copy of the photo. Take a look on our group. Hope you find it.
Oh, that's so sweet, tortoises can live for a hundred years I believe! So glad you are enjoying the videos and a big welcome to you to the channel. Happy painting and give Tortie a hug from me!
I'm excited to try this one. Is there a link for the reference photo? Also thought I'd mention that your FB links and Insta link aren't working. At least not for me.
The shell was painted in a variegated wash (a mix of blues and greens) over the white lines which were reserved with the masking fluid. It wasn't wet in wet. Hope this helps x

I love sea turtles so much! How do you store your Molotow masking marker when not in use so it doesn't dry out so fast? Thank you.
Good question! I’m not sure there is a good way. I just keep mine in a jar away from heat sources.
Gorgeous Diane, thank you! Definitely going to give him a go.
