Why do we continue to think that John Roberts is willing to save us and Scotus itself? He's quite willing to buttress the "5's" corruption. He really doesn't care about any so called reputational damage to the Court. Life time appointments and an overarching arrogance too many of them seem to have will do that for you.

It's an excellent, excellent question. I don't know of anything in the Constitution providing for oversight beyond a couple of Congressional committees that lack the authority to remove a rogue justce.

The concept of Presidential "immunity" is beyond reason, beyond common sense, beyond history, beyond the law. The fact that the Supreme Court would even consider the issue is worrisome to anyone who values our democracy.
As a kid, we learned about the separation of powers, so that one was not stronger than the other. It's insane to me to think that such a basic concept that was taught in grade school is under question.
If a president doesn't have immunity, obama can be charged with murder in the assassination of two American citizens who had not been charged with any crime. One was only 16. Do you still want to do awaywith immunity?

One would assume that it is illegal to lie to Congress.
However the impeachment process is the same as far as I know.
The House would have to vote to impeach.
Then 2/3rds of the of the Senate would have to vote for removal.
However:
Article II, Section 4: The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Some of these Trumpian members of the Supreme Court have been bribed, but they haven't bribed anyone.
If a public official accepts money to do, or not do, an official act, they can be charged with bribery - even if they don't follow through with what was asked, or if they would have done what was asked anyway.
So there are are multiple members of the Supreme Court that could be impeached and stand trial in the Senate.
Current House? No hope of the impeachment of a Trumpian member of the Supreme Court.
2/3rds of the Senate voting for their removal with the current Senate now infiltrated by more Trumpians and insurrectionists? Not going to happen.

I believe it's "impeachment", but that's case by case. Need to also think about sanctioning their confirmation hearings:
- evade a direct question? Disqualified. Instantly. Do not pass "go". Do not get black robe!
- change your stated position from what you said at the hearing (without first explaining "why" to your citizens?) Boom. Boot and replace.
- abide by the exact same standards for all courts below with respect to "accepting no gifts" and "appropriately recuseing" (looking to you, Thomas)
None of this political nonsense either. No witholding house/senate voting. Straight "up or down" vote (60%+ carries). No secret voting. Names required.

Calling the members of the Supreme Court, human beings, is taking things a little too far; this case should NOT be heard and they know it.
Should we ever allow any President to commit any crimes, ever? Why would that ever be Ok? The President is tasked with executing and upholding the rule of law. Giving that person the right to defy the law-any law-would be “breaking” the law in its most literal sense.
The Supremely Disappointing Court continues to do just that - disappoint.

For example was odd, but I found myself explaining to an highly educated American (PhD, university prof) how Maine and Nebraska award Electoral College votes differently than other states. There is no way I should know stuff like that, or the names of SCOTUS cases like Heller, MacDonald, United Citizens. Actually the "Supremes" ARE above the law. Thomas has obviously done some unethical things but there are ZERO consequences. So yes, the "Supremes" have the greatest power over the populace--way more consequences to our daily lives than the President.

The Special Counsel, in an attempt to avoid unnecessary delays asked the Supreme Court, at the time when the court of appeals was considering this matter a second time, to consider the facts, but they declined!
The Supreme Court then delayed accepting the matter, and also hearing arguments!
Considering the financial considerations AT LEAST four members of the Supreme Court have, in my opinion, received because of their status, (and I have posted those considerations previously), the aim of The Court seems to be to assist the defendant as much as they are able!

The problem with the Supreme Court can only be fixed by electing Democrats to the Presidency and the Senate for the next several years, maybe over the period of a decade, until the 6-3 majority becomes at least a 4-5 minority. They leave us no option but to do this.
