I’m playing this now for my dying Mom of 97 years young. She’s not awake anymore doesn’t eat or drink water. But when I played this for her ….she sighed deeply. So I’m going to say in my heart she’s aware of her surroundings. Beautiful song my Mom loved. May my Mom go onto her Mansion in Heaven because to be absent from the body IS to be present with The Lord Christ. My Mom accepted Christ in late 70’s so I know she’s going to Heaven. Amen.

Back in the 60’s my dad worked 6 days a week as a fieldworker. Sundays he’d be dressed up, I can just smell his old spice colonge. He’d listen to this song while sitting in his armchair, my mom next to him in her rocking chair. I wish I could go back just for one day. 😢

I grew up in the 70s and I was do lead vocals in a band called Cliques. Nothing but Rock music. Dad was a retired drill instructor and hated it. I was growing up listening to this music, my dad's always playing in our home. Dad passed at 83 in 2018 but a few yrs before I took my parents out to eat and my friend was playing live music. He came back and asked if I wanted to sing a song. I walked up and sang this song. It was the first time I ever saw my dad cry. He said, I didn't even know that you could sing. That was a memory made I'll never forget.

I’m not sure families could not get by today with one person working.
Back in my childhood, we didn’t eat out. We didn’t take costly vacations and we didn’t have a car for everyone old enough to drive.
You can drive by McDonalds any time of the day and people are buying fast food. Nobody cooks breakfast anymore. They go to a fast food restaurant. I see people whom I know are on government checks out buying fast food breakfast. My point is that we want everything today and aren’t satisfied with just the necessities.

This brought me back to a time, like most when quality of life was so much more, with so much less. I almost feel sorry that not everyone experienced the "Good Ole Days". You didnt have to worry about your kids playing on the front lawn, locking the doors, a man's word actually meant something and was sealed with a hand shake. I remember the first time I flew on a plane, I was about 10 years old. In that time, you dressed up as if it were a social gathering. Not today! I love this song and truly appreciated the jolt back to the past filled with happier times.

After reading so many of these comments, I get the sense of just how much this song and entertainer means to you and how you can connect personal experiences to specific times and places in your lives with the music. I am a broadcast engineer here in Toronto. I've done work all over North America for the major television networks and a lot of work in the film industry. I have connections not once, but twice with this song. The first working live and with prerecorded material with Eddie Arnold here in Toronto, Canada on a show that ran for over twenty-five years..."The Tommy Hunter Show" in the 1980's for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation using Studio 7 at the old TV plant on Jarvis Street. One of the magical moments in one's career to stand three feet away from Eddy Arnold during a rehearsal and listening to him without audio equipment. The entire crew had lunch in the studio with him. He was the real thing guys. I learned so much about television from him that day.
The second time I ran into this song was with an Anne Murray Special in the nineties called "Country Croonin". She sang her album number, you guessed it "Make the World Go Away" on the same network. The same exact experience... standing three feet away during rehearsal. Each number different and delivered with different style, but both with mind blowing results. How lucky is that I ask you. I believe You Tube has the Anne Murray "Country Croonin" number "Make the World Go Away" I know you guys would be impressed with Anne Murray's rendition. I enjoyed reading all of your comments and it tugs at my heart strings. Just turned 70 and you are all correct about our present times in every possible way. What a gentleman Eddy Arnold was.

I own this on an Eddy Arnold box set, "Welcome to my World" it had once belonged to my great grandmother. It was supposedly the last record she had ever played. I'm currently now doing a spirit box session with this on in the hopes I can contact her. I've heard her once before, but I hope I hear her again. Ps, I love you grandma Balk. I never met you but I love you.

Eddie Arnold is a distant cousin of mine , and I love all of his music . This particular song used to lull me to sleep for my nap . My Mom would put the record on the stereo , and I would lay on a rug in front of the entertainment center and fall asleep listening to it . That was quite a few years ago .
