I've taken many breaks from Dayz over the years but always find my way back. Day Z requires a very unique type of gamer. You really have to be okay with loosing gear, no maps, making horrible mistakes that get you killed and not worry a lot about what other people think. Most people can't play that long term daily, I can't anyway. The biggest issue I have with the game at this point is the official servers are unmoderated cesspools. Otherwise its one of the best games Ive ever owned and played. I am a 53 year old gamer, ive been playing video games since 1982. Day Z will always be in my top 10 somewhere.
Dude I’ve never heard anyone summarize dayz and that problem so well. I love dayz as I believe it was intended to be played according to the official servers. The unregulated cess pool of cheaters, dupers, glitches makes the game nearly unplayable in the end game. Why does everyone’s bases disappear over night? Dupers. What’s the point in spending hours and days building a base to have it all deleted overnight and offline by non life cheaters. One thing to lose it honestly to someone who had to gamble their entire hard gained explosive stockpile, but to lose it all to cheaters? Cmon now how can you expect anyone to stay with the game
@@georgestem2039 I’m assuming you play on Pc brother. There’s ZERO truly vanilla community servers on console. I’m on the Xbox and our community scene is a fucking nightmare. PC community atleast pretends to take the cheating and exploit issue on their servers seriously. Also the mods on the console community servers are a joke. The admin are all a nightmare. Seen and played a million they all blow. Official is vanilla as it gets for us console peasants
Right?! I paid 40 and wanted to quit after dying five times in three hours. I told myself that I am going to play it for at least 40 hours to get my money's worth. So the first thing I did after making that decision was to watch tutorials on how to survive. Now I am about 500 hrs in and I love it.
Solo play and being rewarded for careful, patient game play are what's kept me for so long . My solo to team mate play is probably a 9:1 ratio. I actually live longer as a solo as I rarely risk a gunfight where I don't have a high percentage of winning. I've tried to pull so many friends to the game but they lose interest when they starve to death two or more times .
Nice! Yeah, I was playing for a few months and managed to get 2 buddies to buy it. One quickly fell in love with it like me (& we’ve got 2 “saves” that we dip into together a few times a week. Rad fun!) The other buddy tried it for 20-30 minutes and got frustrated with the survival difficulty. He’s evidently gone back in a few times and had some good (& some bad) interactions with other players but is pretty done after just a few hours in total. All of his experiences are actually part of what my other buddy and I love…sometimes the game is hours of pure survival. Sometimes it’s a horror stealth game. Too many zombies and you’re too weak to fight more than one or two, but you’ve GOTTA look “that building” because you need some food/beverage/meds/ammo/etc. Sometimes you’re tracking other players and that’s your self-imposed adrenaline pumping “mission”. But in any/all of those scenarios YOU might be being hunted. That last part is what (to me at least) makes every log-on absolutely nerve wracking and unlike any other games I can play (I’m on PS5). It’s kiiinda ruined other games for me this past year, but you know what? I don’t mind because DayZ (even with the jank and flaws) is just so dang GOOD. 🤷🏼♂️✌🏻
@@I_dont_know_what_Im_doing_ same . It looks run and gun because so many content creators edit it as such, and I guess it can be , but you will die a lot , and to me that’s not the point of the game .
@@jimd1001 it’s really hard to find someone with your play style it’s nice that you guys can do that. I’ve had my style described as too derpy or hermit like. I kind of stop looting serious weaponry once I’ve found an sks because I’ve become so good with it . I do like mines though :)
True! Met a random, we didnt attempt to shoot one another which is a rarity. Gave him a canteen, ran together for 10 min and he simply vanished into the bushes. Not sure why this particular one has stuck with me over the years. Dayz.
it sticks with u because out of the 99/100 times that this game works, u remember the 1% that it does. Imagine that u could actually play the game/. Didnt it get rleased in 2018 ? yet its buggy as hell and people are happy and smiling at the new updates haha , stop joking
It's difficult, but that's why it's rewarding. Most survival games just seem gimmicky and tedious, but Day Z feels like how a brutal zombie apocalypse should feel; on edge and unforgiving.
I started playing when the hype for the ArmA II Mod arose. It was at that time that I found myself enjoying a game like I havent enjoyed one for a very long time. We all remember those moments when we spotted our first Zombie in the distance and that horrifying soundtrack kicked in. After a while it wasnt that much of a horror anymore, because we adapted and learned (and exploited) to deal with the threat. We casually hopped through the villages, slowmo-trapped them Walkers into houses and while there are techniques to easily deal with them in todays version of the game too... after coming back to it I realized how wonderfully difficult it got. One slight mistake and youre getting encircled and eaten alive. With all the deseases and literally everything in this game trying to kill you, I've never felt so vulnerable in a game. Yes, you can run around and play it like a typical shooter, but that style never appealed to me. I like the roleplay, I like the slow and sneaky approach, like I would in real-life. I don't want to kill people, I never killed a person. Only if there is no way out I will use my gun to kill. But my Hunting rifle is for hunting food. If I'm lucky I make friends, but I'm very careful and don't trust anyone. Usually I disengange instantly when I feel a living person nearby. Most of the time I'm the solo surviver and hell do I love playing one character for days until one little mistake blackens my screen without any sound or forewarning. The story is over, dusk turned into night - but I'm ready for a new dawn.
As someone who had no idea what DayZ was, I had to leaen most of it on my own. Friendships are rare but memories are always forever! Its DayZ...Its your story!!!
@blaze7386 Yes and no. It's the apocalypse, dude. Survival is the main priority, and you survive by any means.... it's kill or be killed...but the choice is yours...
"It's like being thrown into the deep end of a pool. But the pool has sharks, and the sharks have guns, and the guns shoot grenades, and the grenades explode into more sharks." 😂😂😂 I'm dying.
So many DayZ standalone players have no idea what survival in this game was like in the days of the DayZ mod for Arma 2. The feeling of being in an open world where you could do what you wanted was still quite a new experience. So many of you missed out on what I think was the greatest time in gaming and I wish you who missed it could have experienced it. The progression that the "community" of survival players went through during those years, from a cautionary style to a kill on sight style, was interesting to be part of and actually sparked moral discussions on what was the "right way" to play the game. It was largely considered "immoral" to kill someone for no reason, and downright evil to kill them for sport. Avoiding contact was the name of the game unless you HAD to kill to survive or avenge. Storing massive amounts of loot was not a thing (tents in trees only to be found in a matter of minutes). What you carried with you was mostly the entirety of your loot as finding a tent to place was also rare, so death was literally a start from scratch every time. Military loot was extremely rare and night vision goggles were prized because the night cycle would last for a full realistic night cycle, so you survived the night on tossing flares or you logged off and went to sleep irl. You never, ever looted a body in an open field as you were likely to be killed. There was no super fast sprinting like Usain Bolt like in DayZ SA, so if you fucked up you were going to be dead or knocked out in 1 shot. "He who moves first dies first" was a real rule to play by. Zombies could knock you out in 1 punch and any rock on the map could break your legs, and omg, don't get me started on the danger of stairs. Side chat constantly had messages from players that read "broke my leg at X location, someone please help me, been crawling for hours." Meds were rare. Vehicles spawned only in specific positions and there were very few on the map and you could not lock them. Over time, people started to tire of this hardcore survival cycle and more and more mods came out. Epoch with building bases and lockable containers and trader cities became a thing. Overwatch mod added a fuck ton of guns. Eventually, it was more like an arena shooter than what it started out as. Still fun, but not like the beginning. I miss the early days...if you can't tell :)
I was among the first 30k people to play the mod. Back when you started with a flair and a gun and there was 1 spawn location for all players basically. It was chaos and everything you said above is exactly how I remember it as well. So many good moments, I met my best online gaming buddy in this game. He saved my ass while being chased by a bunch of zeds and we gamed solid for the next 5-6 years. KOS would have meant that never happened. I recently started playing again and I can't stop grinning at remembering so many good times. The map is quite a lot different though!
Haha, that brings back memories. When I was around 15-16 I used to play ARMA 2: OA, and play on the light milsim servers, man those were a blast. Then I heard about the mod DayZ, it was 2013, it was a new mod. So I tried it out, loved it, got hooked. I stopped playing it after a while and moved onto other things. 10 years later, I’m 26 and have recently bought DayZ. I’m hooked once again. Crazy how time flies.
Yes, good old arma mod. So so fun! I recently picked up the game again after probably a decade away. I've truly enjoyed it. Have 300 hours playtime now. But damn it, the KOS is horrible. I also really dislike the toxic zones. (Mostly because of the KOS makes running with a lightsource a no go. So i need nvg) But most of all I miss bicycles. :)
A few of my own as I watch the video: 1) Jank melee animations 2) Unmoderated official servers 3) Obnoxious loot distribution 4) Copy paste structures 5) Less functionality after 10 years than early access 6) Senseless balancing / rebalancing / unbalancing... 7) Intangibly messed up vehicle physics / functionality I'm sure there are others but these are all major aggravations.
@MochineMike Because its easier to change a few values around and call it an update than actually put effort into adding things that the community wants.
Its 4 devs, and they cant fix cars, game engine or any other criteria. DayZ Standalone was the pioneer of early access scams. Counter Strike still exists because it never changed.
My reason for quitting wasn’t listed. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve loaded my game to be killed by a hacker the second I spawn in. Super annoying.
I have played this game for years and have thousands of hours, love it. I always feel like I accomplished something at the end of a run. I make a plan start the run once I complete it. I start again with a new goal.
Surprised you didn’t mention this, but what officially turned me off from the game were the glitches. One issue I ran into frequently was falling through the earth and dying if I bumped into a table in a house or somehow got caught in a door. That has killed me numerous times. The other issue was having gear despawn if I set it on the ground. Overall, it came to the point where it a player, a zombie, or the environment killed me, I was happy with that run. But after dying to falling through the earth one too many times, I called it quits. Bohemia needs to fix this game. It’s pathetic. It’s been out for over ten years and they’re having these issues
My voice chat doesn't work at all on PC so I can't have any social interactions and everybody kills me instantly because they think I don't have a mic. Huge waste of money. I've found reddit posts of people having the same issue dating three YEARS ago and still no fix
are u a bot ? wtf are u talking about its 24/7 running on a map with no working cars unless u are playing a modded server with unlimited stam and then thats boring as hell for different reasons
@@blaze7386 With respect to Arma II, DayZ Mod redefined survival gaming. The popularity of the mod itself gave birth to entire genres of games.. PubG, Tarkov, Battlefield etc. The reason you dont enjoy it is because you either lack friends, or cant find them in game. I have so many memorable experiences, and friends that I stil talk to over a decade later. Running Simulator.. absolutely. Adrenaline unlike any other game. Perhaps its not for you.
Yet some people still think its all about building big massive bases and playing unlimited stamina servers :( Its sad that most of the people who play dayz like these kinds of servers. You could just play rust instead ^^
@@weediestbroom esp on the german servers! constant camping the new-spawns etc...they must be so pleased with themselves ven zey kill me so efficiently ..
I don't understand how people see the social aspect?? 99% of people just shoot on sight while zig zag through open field... the reality of dayz is SO FAR from what it should be. At this point it's cod on a giant map and you have to find your shit
i have about 2500 hours on the game, been playing since 1.0 game preview, and i gotta say, most of the points you make here are very valid arguments, DayZ is a difficult game that can sometimes be a total b*&@#ch to learn and with every update some of the mechanics change, thats what kinda drove me off the game for the moment, the constant mechanics changes, you can learn a mechanic that has taken you weeks to master only for it to be changed next update, and another thing that has put me off the game is the recent content updates, the gas zones the gas strikes etc, like i honestly dont think it belongs in a game like dayz, and i know you can say "oh just play on a server with them off" and here we come to another thing, i think now is the time where its the most difficult to find a server where you and your friends will enjoy it and all the settings will suit you, there is so much custmization server owners can make to their servers its honestly overwhelming and just off putting, you have things like, unlimited stamina, gas zones, loot rarity, day night cycle, and so much more, dont even get me started on the mods because theyre a whole different topic, its just so difficult to find a server that suits your playstyle, and i feel like the huge portion of the community focuses on the PVP aspect of the game, because of all these youtubers and these scripted movies, and the survival part of the game is being neglected, if you wanna play a server that doesnt focus on pvp instead it focuses on the survival part of the game youre gonna have a bad time looking for a sever that suits your needs.
I’ve been playing this game for a while but every time I find a gun some dude with a shovel kills me because if you just spam heavy hits it stunlocks you!
I just started 2 days ago. Starved to death the first 6 times. 7th try I figured out food. Lasted 8 hours when someone snuck up behind me and shot me in the back of the head in a police station. First person I ever came across in the game, and I didn't even get to see him/her. My 8th session now has me on 12 hours. I still have not seen one player (9 to 16 on my server) as I avoid police and military now. Sticking to hunting cabins.
To those who don't know, this video is made with official servers in mind. Community servers are a much different experience depending on the ones you choose. I recommend tryn out pvp servers before settling down on your main server. Combat training comes in handy here and you must lose that gear fear early on.
I quit and usually end up coming back. Biggest gripe for me is how toxic the online community is. Official is where everyone goes to cheat, and community always seems to go into two types of server. Admins who are on a power trip, or massively over boosted loot that defeats the aim of the game.
I had a 12 hour character that was absolutely geared. I had plenty of ammo for my AK, I had a couple silenced pistols, I had plenty of medical supplies and food. I had full Patrol gear and a plate carrier. I was ready to take on the world. Then I stepped on a random land mine that someone placed in a building. Damaged my leg so bad that taking 3-4 steps made me pass out from the pain. I didn't have supplies to make a splint, and dragging myself far enough to find a roll of duct tape and some sticks would have taken possibly hours. So, I did what I had to do. I pulled the pin on a grenade, placed it on the ground, and laid on top of it. Started back on the coast. No progression, and nothing gained from the experience. I fucking love this game.
I quit DayZ for the same reason people quit cocaine. It just starts sucking up my life and I have to stop lol. Quitting is easy though, I've done it dozens of times.
Speaking of the end game,,, thats when i quit. The first hour or 2 of a fresh spawn is the best. Scratching about for things to wear, eat, etc. But then after youve hit a mili zone, got a vehicle, a base and your fully geared, thats it. Youve won. Only reason to log in is to let your food and water go down just to refill them from the boxes of wolf stake youve stored up
Mate, that was a great video! I've got 3500hours on the game but when I first started playing, it was hard! But I kept on, and like you said you really do need to keep going because you will have some beautiful moments in the game. So keep going newcomers! The game needs you, and if you put in the hours you are definitely going to have some great adventures. Not everyone is your enemy, try talking to people at the coast, the less geared the player the more chance thay will talk back and tell them your new, a player like me will happily take you on a adventure and teach you everything you need to know. Or for those who prefer the solo experience, watch more videos by alwaystreams for tips! Again great video bud.
Really enjoy this game got it on console the problem is when your a dad of 3 children you can only play a hour here or there and sometimes that hour can just be spent running around looking for food 😂 but I still enjoy the game nonetheless
It's just one of those games. You either love it or hate it. I love it and even though I'm still terrible at it, I enjoy every life I have. Yes it's broken and always will be, but that's part of the appeal for a lot of us. The difficulty is what keeps us coming back. Are there better survival games out there? Sure there are, oddly enough though they don't seem as popular. I wonder why that is. One of the most appealing things to me personally though is not having to deal with as much toxicity as in other games. A lot of the dayz players are somewhat more mature. Not all by any streatch, but a lot of them.
Owned dayz for pc since alpha testing. Back when climbing a ladder would break a leg. Now it has evolved into a playable game. But I prefer pve rather than pvp. They need more wolves closer to the coast tho. And some random zombies wandering the woods.
The biggest problem now is bases. We need single doors, window baricades, weapons racks and other bade building units. And we need stronger fences. Now u build base and got raided almost instantly. So u better just stash loot or build in map corner so u run all day to it.
Only reason I stopped for several months now is that I need a new map. If I spawn in livonia or chernarus I know pretty much right away where I am and which way I need to go to get reasonable gear reasonably fast. I want the feeling back of not knowing where I am or what is the best way to start walking, and seeing new things in stead of recognizing almost every house and building.
I have 150 hours in the game. I've had good times with it but it's just a walking simulator until you meet up with your buds. Run inland for an hour, get sick because it's always raining, no map so you have no idea where the next hospital is, then you die. Now do all that over again. So much fun! Like, what kind of disaster creates zombies and removes bicycles from the planet?
Honestly I'm starting to think the people who like this game are just mentally ill or just someone who never experienced anything actually fun in life and I mean doing a actual irl thing not just a video game
@@haxed4922 you really going to pretend like you understood? There is no virus outbreak that removes bicycles, the company that made the game didn't add them I guess.
@wayne5787 There is no virus outbreak that removes bicycles, the company that made the game didn't add them I guess. They didn't think it would be a good idea to include reliable transport on a map that is 87 square miles. That in itself should tell you everything.
What will make me quit indefinitely is not what you mentioned, it is this. I grind and grind and grind. Invested a lot of time and effort. Once I got all I needed like food, weapons, medical, clothing etc etc. only to loss it all by a glitch when logging in and I die falling through a black screen. What a waste of time. Ofcourse I’m back again and now established again. If it happens again I’m gone for good. Because it is frustrating.
I watched a lot of people playing DayZ on UA-cam. Look like a cool game. My first play spawned at night, complete darkness. I knew I was on a beach because I could hear my foot steps in the water but everything was complete darkness. I sat down and waited till dawn. I starved to death walking on a road. Second play started the same at night. But I started with a glow stick. Was able to find a lighthouse to hide in till dawn. I found a small town almost died from a couple zombies. Was sneaking around looking for loot. But couldn't figure out how to switch cloths and storing gear. Finally gave up and logged out in a house. I wish someone would make a tutorial with the absolute basics. Show us how to change cloths, how to transfer gear, how to eat food etc. What buttons need to use to do different actions. What actions on the hud to do the action. Does that make sense? I play on a Xbox console so the controls are different from a computer. That doesn't help anything. I don't mind not having a map, but I wish one was created from what we have explored. So we could at least look and see where we have been. Is there a starter world that is easier for beginners? Something with an easier learning curve? Maybe something with more loot and weaker zombies type of environment? If life was easier for beginners to learn in it would encourage I longer play time, ya know?
I try to play DayZ at least once a week. Usually on the weekends. But, the one thing that keeps me coming back to DayZ is the new adventures that come from....deaths. Yes, most of my deaths come at the worst moments. But, it's the new adventure that comes from a new life spawn that makes it worth it in the end. Of course, there are many times when the fresh spawns are at horrible locations. Trying to find a way to off yourself to get a new spawn can be frustrating. I've resigned myself to the perpetual presence of bugs in DayZ. But, some new bugs can be quite annoying. Since they added "momentum" to character movement, I've found myself getting stuck inside walls while fighting off zombies. Many times I end up dying because of it. But, that's DayZ. Still there are no other games like DayZ. So, I will probably keep playing DayZ until the end of time or life, whichever comes first.
New people generally gravitate towards official servers, when they arrive they get the full dayz experience when they get headshot through a wall by a sporter 500 meters away
I bought the game yesterday and already regret it and uninstalling 😅 Too much running, confusing launcher etc. Thats 50 bucks out the window. Wish you could sell a game on steam.
I’m discouraged because last night I lost my 20 hr character because as I was spawning in and getting my bearings, was shot and killed. Not 7 seconds after the loading screen disappeared, in the middle of the woods…. Next to my car…. And my NBC, just needed boots…. There’s always more loot and more cars but damn man that’s discouraging bbg
I was gonna start my own server and make it private, but then… why even go to Rify? Get an m4 for…. Just the zombies? Nah. I’ll grind it out again. Just need a couple days break
Totally agree. I'm playing DayZ since it was just a little mod and for me, the biggest plus is that, with just a few mods you can create a totally different world you can explore. The gearing up, dying, gearing up, dying again and again and again until you finally have everything to start a base is the best part of DayZ.
DayZ is though and i couldnt agree more that it is unforgiving, even for someone with 2000+hours. As an example ,yesterday i died to a noob because i did not check the bullets i loaded my KA-M with... I ambushed and was ready for the kill, when the player lined up my line of sight i shot one bullet and my gun went click click... giving the enemy enough time to dump a mag in me.
The only ONE thing I hate about Dayz is the zombies. Zombies should not be able to out run you and chase you across the map. Zombies should walk or walk at a fast pace. but not run faster than you or keep up with you. It ruins the PVP experience for me.
Omfg... its a survival game not a pvp game.. they are infected not zombies.. if the survival aspects of the game get in the way of your pvp go and play King of the hill ffs
For me, it's the very same looking houses, and the number of doors that are just locked. Many reused assets and many locked areas. Also, the base building
DayZ is one of the rare couple games where you and your friends say "remember that one time" and youre talking about an adventure or a sticky spot you guy got out of on a freakin game. Its awesome.
Have more then 9000 hours on dayz, playing since the first beta, i will never leave dayz, i love it, keep making this great game a true wonderfull surviving experience, im stiking with this game 😊
@@Callum38 yes but it's not worth the time. the reason why it gives u adrenaline is because its 5 hours of looting , gearing up and running and finally u see a player
7500 hrs and I still get entertained and surprised by the random encounters that I experience whilst playing this gem of a survival game. No other game that comes close. Its not perfect but its dam close. Hope Bohemia Interactive keep this game going and release a new one in the future that's a worthy replacement of the current platform.
Great piece. You nailed it. Because DayZ is so unstructured, players can create a personal style of play as they adapt to different aspects of the game, or change approaches and try new things. I play solo and have Favorited five Community servers. If it's raining on one, I go to another. If it's night, I go to another. On one server I am rocking it, on another I'm staggering around searching for medicine, or food, or shelter, or safety. A great strength of the game is that there is no structure to it, no missions, no quests, no pre-determined route I'm supposed to follow to complete the game. In fact, DayZ cannot be completed. Players are spawned into it, have to deal with it, then - inevitably - die. A change I would like to see made is an option to take out all the instructions on what is spelled out as possible, depending on, for instance, what tool you have in your hand. I've learned that if I have a knife in my hand and a chicken on the floor, I can cut it up. I know some bushes will give me a long stick. Because I've played for a while, I know how to do enough that hand-holding is not required. I should be able to turn it off.
Perma death was a selling point for me as I’ve a bad habit of quitting other games to start from the beginning even if I haven’t completely finished it
Most people don’t wanna spend 3 weeks in a game before they understand it enough to survive more than 2 days plus it’s old as hell now now why should anyone care about a game with a learning curve steeper than gran turismo and graphics that needed an upgrade in 2016 it’s not that no one is giving it a chance the game gives a new player no chance.
Tried to play the game with my friend yesterday, we were looting and getting goods killed a few chicken an learned how to set a fire and cook, we left after two hours, just because it felt kinda boring, like we went expecting a hard game with cruel players, and found a more survival focused game and no players, the survival part is fun but having enough bullets to take on 15 people and found no one was not expected
That’s the point though you have to stay on guard because at any moment you may come across a survivor or a base and if you arnt that spit second costs all your work I get it not for everyone but for a survival game it’s second to none
You judged the game way too quickly. Did you at least give it more chances in the end? Idk man like the other guy said, not knowing when exactly you'll bump into survivors and die is what keeps the game tense. But you didnt really have a frame of reference as you haven't met the monsters we have or gotten into chaotic situations like we have. If u end up playing long enough for good players to find you, you'd get why your biggest conplaint is the games biggest strength. Just give it more time. Gain more experiences in the game and you may understand.
I played it for just under 2 hours. My experience was walking around an empty town finding nothing and dying. I feel like youtubers are playing an entirely different game. Either way, easiest refund of my life
Nothing about how insanely clunky 80% of this game is? It really doesn’t have to be this way, many other hardcore survival shooters have created far better systems
There are 3 games that I have found over the years that I feel are the toughest yet most rewarding in their genres. DayZ is one, PUBG is another and Eve Online. Others in these different genres will hand you a biscuit/cookie and hold your hand through the game but these 3 games will steal your biscuit and laugh at you for bringing one in the first place. Each of these though are games that I have enjoyed the most.
Feels like this game is designed for adult gamer. People that know how to take L and don't rage when die. Unfortunately it takes time in real life to be patient and appreciate small things like can of cat food 😂
The game is boring. Nobody ever says a word, and those that do only do so they can screw you over. Everyone is a glorified npc who will KOS in a heartbeat after you’ve walked halfway across the map. Plus, any cool items are extremely difficult to find since you have to go to specific locations which are a complete pain in the arse to find. Literally, just make you spawn with a map and it would be much more fun. The game is a walking simulator to your death. If it was easier to find a map, and if the infected *actually worked properly* it would be more reasonable. Seriously, npcs are so janky. I get that these things are part of the appeal for some, but it just is not fun to walk across the map looking for a backpack for an hour only to get shot by some silent dick in the middle of the woods.
Thanks man, I almost gave up buying DayZ because most people don’t show this survival and loneliness aspect of the game, I was mostly worried to encounter people while what I am looking for is that brutal survival and introspection while being alone in the wild. Thank you for your explanations ❤
Gotta admit I’ve never got the “no map” excuse, there are sooo many in game ways to get around compass , maps ,hiking trails sun and stars can be use aswell. Just think a lot of new players have no idea these exist
I just got a DayZ server. For a short time, I considered canceling it. Trying to figure out server settings, mods, general configuration. This video was helpful. I've decided to keep the server and give it a go. Thanks.
Me and my buddy love the concept of the game. We've both done about half a dozen good runs where we got to the point of being fairly well geared before taking several months off the game in between runs. Our issue, as much of a skill issue as it is, is other players. The gunplay just isn't what attracted us to the game. It's the inventory and food management, the navigation, the sneaking, the crafting, the base-building, and the vibe. We just don't really care for other players, who just kinda take away the apocalyptic survival feeling and make you feel like you're in a really clunky FPS.
@@MyheartisaFedpost we put them to good use when a bear or wolves show up, or if we can't sneak through a groups of zeds. Our best equipment we've gotten is mostly just sks', krinkovs, and Mosin's. Which is overkill already considering we just sneak around constantly. If another player shows up we just try to leave, just a waste of supplies to get into a gun fight for us.
This is probably my favourite video of yours. I've bought the game for a few friends and they just dont get it never got truly hooked like I did but they never experienced the game solo I always gave them food and gear diluting their experience down to a gta online style of sandbox with little risks. If you want a freind to play with you let them play solo first let them struggle and experience fear otherwise it will never make sense to them
The thing that drives me off is stress, when I approach a military base I don't fear that I will loose my gear, I become paranoid. I hear foot steps, I see things move when there's nothing there, when there's actually a player there I become even more paranoid
DayZ for me is that game that I play for a month straight then it collects digital dust in my steam library, then one friend plays it, I jump on it and then we have the group back. The cycle repeats
I've just been playing high pop servers, chilling in Cherno crates with a fishing rod and a campfire, and giving any passerbys some fish for the road. Stark contrast to my usual adventures, and has been peaceful and nice.
You didnt mention the biggest problem, which you get when you summarize all your mentioned points. People which are having a job a social life or any other kind of task in their life, just dont have the time for looting to tisy or getting to a3/lantia in Namalsk. You can play pubg or hunt or whatever else for 1 ir 2 hour, but the devs broke dayz with sicknesses, stamina, constant starvation etc. Before beta you had the same dayz feeling and the same adrenaline from pvp but it just didnt take that long as today
I came close today as a new player (under 50 hours) when I found out base (tallest apartment in Turnow) had been raided. Everything was boarded up (no base damage server) but the game allowed a ground to stack watchtowers on each other to reach the vulnerable rooftop. Like dude..
I started playing a low population server with slightly boosted loot so that I could get more familiar with the map, loot locations, and route planning and possible base locations.
I've recently started playing and after a couple of frustrating trys on normal servers I've found it much better after finding a less populated server with 3x the loot and I'm learning the game on there, what I cant get my head round though is the terrible buggy inventory system, for instance I never seem to be able to swap things to my hand and usually have to drop whatever weapon I'm holding to get a bandage or food into my hand.
Probably because your inventory is full, and the way to get good at the game is to play on the servers that DONT spoil you. It will teach you how to find food and where to look for it.
@@ictrlaltdeleteu Yes I've learnt that now also how to kill Infected without taking damage and the fact they usually carry food, I'm almost ready for the big boy servers lol.
I just bought the game a few days ago with no knowledge about the game, it kicked my ass even with supreme confidence heading in lol. The best advice I can give someone newer than me is understand exactly what the bottom right indicators are. As soon as I figured out the furthest left is "hydration", not sprint, and the droplet that I thought was hydration but actually is your blood levels, I haven't died since. Also learning how to cook food without a metal pot or trying to find small stones or canned food, and learning how to forage for fruits, this game *does* get easier. Find a town/city with a water-well, locate fruits and chickens, set up a base at a house and you have a start. Playing on a x4 loot server really helped me grasp the mechanics since it was much easier before going back to an official server. I did run into 1 player so far on official (at spawn), we both had nothing to take and no weapons so we both t-bagged together and ran away lol
Easy mode on official server, wait for train spawn near rify.. Hide a barrel.. Stash nbc gear in it... Loot rify easily, and a great spawn location north side.
Very hard game. It's good though; I loved the moment way back when i figured out how to kill chickens, go fishing and collect fire wood and make a fire and eat! Learning to live more than a day lol!
Best story I had was I fought and won against a 3 man. I was low health. I accidentally fell of a cliff snd broke my leg. Then soon after I got attacked by a pack of wolves. I survived but was red flashing health and red blood. I was about to starve so I started hobbling to the safe zone trader I was near. I made it in just as I started starving. I hobbled into the trader with other players around, starving, broken leg with a splint, red flashing health, red blood. A guy looks at me and goes “Hey man how’s it goi…JESUS CHRIST man! What happened!!” I stayed in that trader I was fully healed. I ate and stake until full. I took advantage of the safe zone infinite blood trick and gave myself blood until I was good. Best memory ever
The only survival game that doesn't get sucked into the repetitive grind the others do. Even the travel is nice, peaceful walk through the forest after a group of infected is amazing
Well said sir, I love this game, my only hang-up is combat, I'm crap, but I am very handy in a duo, but that's just it, I don't have anyone to play with 😂
started playing it when it was first available. played on and off as other games caught my attention. always LOVED exploring and surviving, but the pvp antics just kept getting worse. finally got the Vintorez and they reset the servers, never even got to fire a shot from it. so i quit. then i decided to setup for for solo play on my own server, yesterday. now im loving it again, not worrying about being killed by other players. they should have had this as a standard option, when the game was released imho
Im buying this for ps5 next month to play with my cousin, would and veterans be down to show us the basics of the game? It would be very much appreciated
its the small personal achivements that kept me going. always testing boundries and going further than yesterday. played offical for a yr (solo) before i started playing community servers, it kinda sucked. now im expereinced and mildly threatening in pvp and i ply 2 servers. one is a hardcore survival where its always freesing cold and if you find anything its damaged thats pve/pvp. no food, just what you kill and i play a faction pvp server with some friends ive made with a trader system and we run guns and weed and defend our area of the map with zeal. but no ones videos show the hours and hours of grind it takes to be able to go on 6 hr adventures. i dont even really play any other games anymore. just dayz.
im a person that takes long breaks sometimes multiple years long and the one big reason i quit again is bugs..ever put down a weapon and had it vanish? thats because you never had the weapon in the first place or you cant put something in your hands because the server thinks something else is already in your hands leading you to be killed,,things like this have been happening since i started playing in 2016 it is now 2024 and the same hand state bug is still happening...at what point is enough enough?
I remember when we started a year ago… took half an hour to an hour for the 3 of us to find each other and all meet up. By the time we managed to regroup we were all sick and dying. We would die from Illness more than we died from players lol. Now I’m always searching for that next hardcore survival server 😅
I been playing DayZ for over 200 hours and still have no idea where military grade equipment is lol. I'm just bad with directions and refuse to use 3rd party websites or maps.
Like one guy told me before I dies my 1st life- I watched my friend die and I was dying aswell "that's just the game" and I never have a problem with dieing, I will just go all over again
for me what kept making me rethink of playing was playing on official servers and being unable to enter any major coastal city when i spawn (cherno, elektro or berezino) without being killed by a fully geared guy/group just for them to take my 1 bandage lol, but i guess its all part of the game so best i can do is learn to deal with it
I spend a lot of my time playing DayZ wondering why I'm even bothering. But then something amazing will suddenly happen. I'll come across a cool person finally that doesn't have an itchy trigger finger, and you go on an adventure together. Or I'll overcome ridiculous odds and take down a clan by myself or with that one cool person , and the satisfaction is unparalleled in gaming. DayZ will always give you back as much as you're willing to put in. Put little into it and you will get absolutely nothing out of it.
I quit because I got sick of team mates letting me down, and losing hundreds of hours of building/scavving because people don’t do what they say they will. I quit vanilla, and now just occasionally play death matches.
Or just play community
Since 1982? Did you watch any good horror movies in that year like The Thing or Poltergeist?
@@FrattinZ thats why i don’t play official plenty of vanilla community servers

Lol, I got it in gamepass, laggy though
Could've spent it on drugs like a normal person but No u just had to go and throw ur life away
Had the exact same thing friends can’t keep up lol
Takes a certain type of person to really enjoy this game. Many people are too impatient. I however, love it.

The story is over, dusk turned into night - but I'm ready for a new dawn.
are you joking ? The zombies in this game climb houses, hit you through doors and they fly. Wake up pls
It's a video game bud. It's supposed to be enjoyable lmao

I miss the early days...if you can't tell :)
seems to be pretty much the same still then, maybe some minor differences but your description of arma matches my experience of Dayz over the years
I was among the first 30k people to play the mod.
So i need nvg)
But most of all I miss bicycles. :)
A few of my own as I watch the video:
1) Jank melee animations
2) Unmoderated official servers
3) Obnoxious loot distribution
4) Copy paste structures
5) Less functionality after 10 years than early access
6) Senseless balancing / rebalancing / unbalancing...
7) Intangibly messed up vehicle physics / functionality
I'm sure there are others but these are all major aggravations.
Big facts
For me it’s the constant “balances” they keep doing like unless you’re adding a new event stop changing it all around..

I have played this game for years and have thousands of hours, love it. I always feel like I accomplished something at the end of a run. I make a plan start the run once I complete it. I start again with a new goal.
Been playing since 2012, this game made me appreciate wildlife and scenery and camping irl.
Dayz 2 ? First you need Dayz 1, what are u even talking about ?
i have about 2500 hours on the game, been playing since 1.0 game preview, and i gotta say, most of the points you make here are very valid arguments, DayZ is a difficult game that can sometimes be a total b*&@#ch to learn and with every update some of the mechanics change, thats what kinda drove me off the game for the moment, the constant mechanics changes, you can learn a mechanic that has taken you weeks to master only for it to be changed next update, and another thing that has put me off the game is the recent content updates, the gas zones the gas strikes etc, like i honestly dont think it belongs in a game like dayz, and i know you can say "oh just play on a server with them off" and here we come to another thing, i think now is the time where its the most difficult to find a server where you and your friends will enjoy it and all the settings will suit you, there is so much custmization server owners can make to their servers its honestly overwhelming and just off putting, you have things like, unlimited stamina, gas zones, loot rarity, day night cycle, and so much more, dont even get me started on the mods because theyre a whole different topic, its just so difficult to find a server that suits your playstyle, and i feel like the huge portion of the community focuses on the PVP aspect of the game, because of all these youtubers and these scripted movies, and the survival part of the game is being neglected, if you wanna play a server that doesnt focus on pvp instead it focuses on the survival part of the game youre gonna have a bad time looking for a sever that suits your needs.
I’ve been playing this game for a while but every time I find a gun some dude with a shovel kills me because if you just spam heavy hits it stunlocks you!
Nobody truly quits DayZ.
You learned to look for trip wires and land mines
I quit DayZ for the same reason people quit cocaine. It just starts sucking up my life and I have to stop lol. Quitting is easy though, I've done it dozens of times.
I feel you on that one. Same here.
And you'll probably quit a dozen more times before it's finally over. lol
Same
Speaking of the end game,,, thats when i quit.
So. Effin. True.
Or not build a base at all.

If I spawn in livonia or chernarus I know pretty much right away where I am and which way I need to go to get reasonable gear reasonably fast.
I want the feeling back of not knowing where I am or what is the best way to start walking, and seeing new things in stead of recognizing almost every house and building.
Just came back to DayZ after Two Weeks of Starfield. DayZ just feels like Home.
SAME! Sorry Sarah, but woods of Livonia are calling me home!
Exactly
Honestly I'm starting to think the people who like this game are just mentally ill or just someone who never experienced anything actually fun in life and I mean doing a actual irl thing not just a video game
See when people complain about no map it just goes to show how little effort they are putting in
@@haxed4922 you really going to pretend like you understood? There is no virus outbreak that removes bicycles, the company that made the game didn't add them I guess.
@wayne5787 There is no virus outbreak that removes bicycles, the company that made the game didn't add them I guess. They didn't think it would be a good idea to include reliable transport on a map that is 87 square miles. That in itself should tell you everything.
Adrenaline rush like no other game!! You always come back 😅
What will make me quit indefinitely is not what you mentioned, it is this. Because it is frustrating.
reason #1: hackers
Never seen one in all my years
Hackers are in every competitive game.
You quit those too?
@@ItsOnaticone of them froze and almost destroyed my ps5. Sony don’t do anything about it.
@@tylerhill40least they just get aimbot these hackers freeze your screen or crash your game
Play on console brotha it’s so much better cuz hackers don’t exist on console
Dude i smiled the hole Video , 14 Reasons why i love DayZ over every other Game xD
I felt offended this list is what makes it the best game ever 😂
The only ONE thing I hate about Dayz is the zombies. Zombies should not be able to out run you and chase you across the map. Zombies should walk or walk at a fast pace. but not run faster than you or keep up with you. It ruins the PVP experience for me.
Omfg... its a survival game not a pvp game.. they are infected not zombies.. if the survival aspects of the game get in the way of your pvp go and play King of the hill ffs
@@lilibordei721 are you sure? They have categorized it as an 'Online PvP' game. If you need glasses, I think specsavers might be open
@@blaze7386 right I forgot about that they have the survival mechanics so idiots like you can play pretend while you zigzag sprint across the map.
Same .
Yeah when they fix my connection to my home server new update fkd it for me 😂
do u have a health issue ?

Brilliant narration very understandable. One of the first there is no shouting fast talking. Now subscribed 😊
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Plus the update that just came out makes it impossible to respawn #redscreen been 3 weeks where’s the patch?
Literally added Fanny packs and broke the game
Biggest reason Ong
Either way, easiest refund of my life
I'm relatively new to Dayz with very lil screen time, all the reasons you claim people leave are the very reason I love it
Nothing about how insanely clunky 80% of this game is? It really doesn’t have to be this way, many other hardcore survival shooters have created far better systems
They're coping
There are 3 games that I have found over the years that I feel are the toughest yet most rewarding in their genres. DayZ is one, PUBG is another and Eve Online. Others in these different genres will hand you a biscuit/cookie and hold your hand through the game but these 3 games will steal your biscuit and laugh at you for bringing one in the first place. Each of these though are games that I have enjoyed the most.
Dayz is a trash unfinished game that will still be in beta until the day I die.
I agree dude. I want to play a game but I cant becasuse some jerk with full gear just hanging out on the coast shooting people & not even looting them
Thanks man, I almost gave up buying DayZ because most people don’t show this survival and loneliness aspect of the game, I was mostly worried to encounter people while what I am looking for is that brutal survival and introspection while being alone in the wild.
Thanks.
Excellent vid. Tip for beginners - you can eat all food except Rotten, doesn't matter what it looks like
Also, in towns around houses, check under trees. I have survived countless times that way. The veteran DayZ player will know what I'm talking about.
What's the point of getting that gear if a situation never comes that challenges you to use it as best you can?
@@MyheartisaFedpost we put them to good use when a bear or wolves show up, or if we can't sneak through a groups of zeds.
Our best equipment we've gotten is mostly just sks', krinkovs, and Mosin's. Which is overkill already considering we just sneak around constantly. If another player shows up we just try to leave, just a waste of supplies to get into a gun fight for us.
AlwaysStreams, what is the music that allways plays in the video background and in the outro?
This is probably my favourite video of yours.
I've bought the game for a few friends and they just dont get it never got truly hooked like I did but they never experienced the game solo I always gave them food and gear diluting their experience down to a gta online style of sandbox with little risks. If you want a freind to play with you let them play solo first let them struggle and experience fear otherwise it will never make sense to them
As "Always", this commentary is informative, witty and just plain entertaining. I look forward to your next video, and the next one and the next one.
Addicted. Haven't touched any of my other games in 2 years. This is my favorite game second to 90's command and conquer.
@@ictrlaltdeleteu Yes I've learnt that now also how to kill Infected without taking damage and the fact they usually carry food, I'm almost ready for the big boy servers lol.
you were born ready@@skapunkno1
Learning to live more than a day lol!
i love your script in tis one. youre a genius man keep it up!!
I believe you nailed it. Well done.
A guy looks at me and goes
“Hey man how’s it goi…JESUS CHRIST man! What happened!!”
I stayed in that trader I was fully healed.
Dayz does have an in game map for Livonia and chernaurus, it’s called a tourist map and it shows your location on it
Well said sir, I love this game, my only hang-up is combat, I'm crap, but I am very handy in a duo, but that's just it, I don't have anyone to play with 😂
I just got into this game for playing over 15 years with CoD and BF. I can say I regret not playing it sooner
I was thinking about joining this game but I am unsure to join. gear fear was my biggest problem. but this video fills me with hope.
started playing it when it was first available. played on and off as other games caught my attention. always LOVED exploring and surviving, but the pvp antics just kept getting worse. finally got the Vintorez and they reset the servers, never even got to fire a shot from it. so i quit. then i decided to setup for for solo play on my own server, yesterday. now im loving it again, not worrying about being killed by other players. they should have had this as a standard option, when the game was released imho
Been playing it for a couple years, my favorite game of all time, I'll never quit it.
for me what kept making me rethink of playing was playing on official servers and being unable to enter any major coastal city when i spawn (cherno, elektro or berezino) without being killed by a fully geared guy/group just for them to take my 1 bandage lol, but i guess its all part of the game so best i can do is learn to deal with it
I spend a lot of my time playing DayZ wondering why I'm even bothering.
