I recommend getting a 120vac heated blanket. You'll be able to run the diesel heater on the lowest setting to keep the chill off while having a toasty bed. In my experience, a heated blanket uses around 400wh in about 12 hours on a medium setting. Nothing better than sticking your cold feet into a hot bed when it's cold out. Cheers you two, love the content.
Love the video , can’t wait to watch more of truck camping, we built a platform for our truck but we put it on top of the wheel wells, gave us almost king size bed
One suggestion I would like to make, you should probably try and find a way to insulate the hose from the heater. It very thin walled and with it sitting outside and on the ground in low double digits or possibly singles, your loosing a lot of your heat and the heater works harder to maintain a level of heat and will burn more diesel.
I had considered that, but we just used it last night in -8 and it ran on 5/10 for 12 hours, only used half a gallon (tank) of fuel! I’m not expecting much colder… but you’ll see the video in two weeks!
I used 2 inch wide webbing to make a grab handles to pull down the topper door easier and to lift the tailgate up. I used large rivets in one end to create a hole to attach the handles to the door and tailgate. Keeps you from having to lean outside to close them.
Maybe it's me, why do this when you had a nice truck camper 😢 but as long as you're happy, that's all that matters 😊 looking forward to your next adventure 🎉
It’s only temporary! We’ll be back in the trailer in a few weeks, but for skiing and snow camping out west this was the simplest option since we didn’t have it planned ahead of time
If you can get your hands on a safety candle( plain white wax), or a piece of of paraffin wax(find in the canning section of the store) and rub it thickly on the bottom bits of the drawer and drawer box ,rub it on as thickly as you can and it will help the drawers slide a lot nicer and no squeaking or scraping and it shouldn’t bind up either. Best of luck with the camping and have a blast!
Nicely done you guys. Amelia, always a beautiful smile, Connor great work, brother. Looking forward to seeing the travels that you guys do in the truck. Take care be safe.
To add space you could add a 10X10 suv tent to the back of your truck. Makes dressing or eating dinner much better. BUT, leave all food inside the cab to keep animals at bay!
Nice work guys. Wish you the best of luck with this as an old geezer my back would not make it on that set up, but you guys being young and spry no problem.
If you paint the bottom of the bed platform that shelve sit on, a thick enamel, you can put felt cloth on bottom of drawers for easy sliding or a low nap carpet to slide on smooth painted surface. Also, you could reduce weight considerably by using 2x2 horizontal and vertical for bed sides instead of the 2x6. The bottom sheet ply wasn't needed if you had used legs down sides and center. Lastly 1xs for drawer frames would have reduced drawer weight considerably. I offer this after building this for myself and others. Your set up is very good, sturdy and should serve you well. Thanks for sharing. P.S. with leg setup instead of ply bottom, drawers slide easily on truck bed, either painted surface or drop in liner.
Thanks for the tips! We wanted the 2x6 for the increased storage height. And will likely change the 2x4 for some 1x at some point but the cost didn’t make much sense at the time. Works for now!
$500 for a good used truck bed camper shell is a good deal, but for the amount of customizing that you guys are doing - I would have gone for a truck bed camper top with more head room. Seems like the low ceiling will be a pain in the butt.
Money aside, there is a 6 week order period for a newer truck shell, and most of the brands don’t make many models for an 8’ bed. If we love the setup, we can always change to a high top in the future!
The truck camper was in yr blood. The Reno was a huge part of being mobile. The truck topper is cool but the truck camper is way better. Just go and find another used one and do a full Reno again. This way best of both worlds and much better for cooking and bathroom! you can take in snow no problems. Plus the content of a reno is priceless! So many folks have a truck camper and fifth wheel/Travel trailer set up. Best of both worlds. The topper set up has been done to death... But your nitch is the truck camper videos.... Remember when you did the revenue per video ? I wonder what it's been since you got rid of the truck camper? Better, worse, same? but Dowhatchalike!
We’ll always consider doing another truck camper! We had outgrown that one anyway, so for now we’re loving the trailer and the truck shell is just temporary!
We still have it! We decided last minute to head out west to ski and snow camp for a few weeks and don’t want to risk pulling a trailer through winter conditions. So we’ll be back in the camper at the end of Feb!
Thank you for the reply. I see you are in Dfw? I watch these ideas closely. I am 68 and very close to trying these projects. I have the 2500 ram and a 31 ft airstream. Firsttimer.@@LivingLargeCamping
I would’ve put lights on the she’ll. Looks cool at night. Does Connor have any idea or any viewer for that matter of doing something from wood so I can put groceries in the back of my truck and they don’t roll all over? Thank you.
Not sure what truck you have, but the newer models typically have a slot for a 2” thick piece of wood near the tailgate and near the cab. It could be an easy option to build a temporary box using those as the mounting
Just curious, if you didn’t want to do winter camp camping in the trailer, why didn’t you just keep the truck camper for the winter? I just worry about how safe, and warm, you’re going to be in the cap.
At the time, we weren’t planning on winter camping. The trailer still makes sense for the main travel we’re planning on as of now. This is just temporary and then we’ll use the truck shell to store our ebikes while we have the trailer!
We are headed out west for a few weeks to ski and don’t want to pull a trailer through snow and ice. So this is just temporary, we’ll be back in the camper in march!
We still have it! But we’re heading west to ski for a few weeks and don’t want to risk pulling a trailer through snow and ice. So we’ll use this and then it’ll be covered storage for our bikes with the trailer!
would not have dropped $500. i liked the 2 tone look. i'm thinkin it was the mrs. that wanted the paint job. ''boy's don't care.'' urban, bay bee! but that's just me.

There are also ‘car blankets’ which are 12v.
We have a 12v heated blanket! It’s a great addition
@ 🥳💖
You guys are amazing. Can’t wait to see you traveling and living in it!
We’re excited to see where it takes us too!
Love the video , can’t wait to watch more of truck camping, we built a platform for our truck but we put it on top of the wheel wells, gave us almost king size bed
That’s how we did our old one, the mattress in this one just rests on the wheel wells so it’s basically the same size!
Oh my! Stay warm! I was happy when you finally got AC. Now I'm happy you have heat.😊
The heater is working great so far!

Great sleepibg setup, and the camper looks good 👌. See you on the next one adventurers 😊.
Thanks! The paint turned out great!

That's a great idea, thanks for sharing!
We also put on our drawers thin pvc makes them slide better
That’s a great idea!
Great job! Stay warm! See you on UA-cam! Thanks for taking me along .
Glad you liked it, more adventures to come!
Use a bar of soap on the bottom of the drawers to make them slide better.
Good idea, thanks!
it will be an adventure and an experience. We have done things like this. You are having fun setting your camper up.
We are definitely having fun with it!
Maybe it's me, why do this when you had a nice truck camper 😢 but as long as you're happy, that's all that matters 😊 looking forward to your next adventure 🎉

Great tip, thanks for sharing! So far they are easy to slide but I’m sure that’ll change over time
Good job on the build! I really enjoyed the video and look forward to what's next for you two! Sending you 'warm wishes'. ✌️🇨🇦
Thank you, we appreciate your support!
Nicely done you guys. Amelia, always a beautiful smile, Connor great work, brother. Looking forward to seeing the travels that you guys do in the truck. Take care be safe.
Thank you, Max!
Enjoy Palo Duro SP. My wife and I have camped there several times based on one of your past videos. 👍
BTW. Headed there in about a month.
How cool, glad yall enjoyed the recommendation! We had another great stay there, definitely a good spot. Thanks, Terence!
Amelia, love the "Up North" sweatshirt! Only a true Michigander would wear that. You and Conner are now in the club. 🤣
A great club to be in too!
To add space you could add a 10X10 suv tent to the back of your truck. Makes dressing or eating dinner much better. BUT, leave all food inside the cab to keep animals at bay!
I’ve seen those, definitely would give some extra room!
Nice work guys. Wish you the best of luck with this as an old geezer my back would not make it on that set up, but you guys being young and spry no problem.
We couldn’t do this long term, but driving just the truck sure is nice!
Great Job building the Bed frame!! Can't wait to follow your adventures. Good Luck.
Glad you like the build, it works great!
AWESOME VIDEO YOU GUYS STAY WARM AND STAY SAFE TAKE CARE NOW
Thank you!
I'm so hooked on your channel. Cant wait to see how your second night goes. A.FAN
Thanks for the support!
It'll make for a nice over-night setup for overlanding even when are back in the camper.
Our thoughts exactly! Plus short trips from the cabin
Nice simple set up! I like it!
Working great so far!
Red would have made you a lot more discoverable by creeps. Happy you changed it.
It sure stuck out!
A nice job 👍. Safe travels, looking forward to the next video ❤
Glad you like it, more adventures to come!
Outstanding here we go!!🇺🇸💪🇺🇸💕👍 And I think it looks great colored matched you two!!
Thanks Dave! We're already loving it!

@LivingLargeCamping 6" height keep, use 2x2, think of a narrow ladder shape.
Safe Travels & Stay Warm 🙏🏾🙏🏾🫂🫂
Thank you!
You guys should do a van build, that would be awesome!
We considered it before we bought the truck camper!
@@LivingLargeCamping cool !
12 volt mattress pad
We looked at one of those!
Did you add the anti gel for diesel? You’ll need it for sub zero temps!
Great job
Thank you!
Nice quick built. Are there exhaust from the heater? And getting into the camper?
Yes, there is an exhaust pipe on the heater. It is only clean hot air through the black tubing

@ Thanks for sharing your thinking - it is 100% on the money.
What did you use to attach and seal the camper. I like the set up
There are C clamps that grab underneath the top rail of the bed, and then a thick truck shell rubber seal to try and get it water tight
Excellent
Thanks!

You guys are troopers 😂
So far so good in the mountains!
Happy Trails 😊
Thank you!
what leer model?
Why did you sell the truck camper? Wouldn't that have been easier and more convenient?
Yes, but we want the trailer for the spring and ease of loading while in Michigan. The timing probably wasn’t great on our part but we’re adjusting!
I’m sure you’ll make the best with what you have in this current season of your lives. God bless your travels and your channel!
They had a cabin and then a trailer…hard to keep track.
Just curious, if you didn’t want to do winter camp camping in the trailer, why didn’t you just keep the truck camper for the winter? I just worry about how safe, and warm, you’re going to be in the cap.

May I ask what is the shops name and where it's located? Fellow Texan here looking to paint match my cap aswell lol
It was the Maaco paint shop in Burleson, Tx. Fantastic job!
@LivingLargeCamping Thank you! I'll be paying them a visit soon and let them know y'all sent me!
Good deal! Bailey is the managers name
I watch you guys every week but did I miss something? Why are you building all this and not taking your trailer for the next few months?
We are headed out west for a few weeks to ski and don’t want to pull a trailer through snow and ice. So this is just temporary, we’ll be back in the camper in march!
Got it, thanks for the reply and have fun! ⛷️ 👍
They have their new trailer. Why do they want to also travel in this truck bed?
Clearly the trailer has not worked out for them.
We are heading out west to ski and don’t want to risk pulling a trailer through snow and ice. We’ll be back in the trailer soon!
put hole in the bed frame so your mattress don't mode
I'm confused as to why you guys are doing this but whatever the reason(s), enjoy and be safe.
It was a last minute decision to drive out west to ski and snow camp, so this is temporary and then we’ll be back in the camper at the start of march!
Haven't watched you guys in a while, what happened to the camper?
We still have it! But we’re heading west to ski for a few weeks and don’t want to risk pulling a trailer through snow and ice. So we’ll use this and then it’ll be covered storage for our bikes with the trailer!
