- In this video I check out DR Strings for the first time and decide to go all out and put some neon blue strings on my metallic electric blue Tommy Thayer Epiphone Les Paul. Wait until you see how this turned out! Let me know what you think!
Paul would tell you to do what makes you happy...Gene will have an issue because you didn't buy KISS branded strings!
My wife and I just purchased a set each they were on clearance 75% off.m $4.00 each set. I have heard about them not lasting long if you play hard the color fades. But you can still play them. Thought they would look 😎 cool on stage under the lights. Cheers 🍻 🥃🥃 🎸 🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶
Love the idea man! Now to go play some blues.
Haha true man!
So far so good rock on
DR strings, great handmade strings, boy do I hate their treated offerings, always have loved the tite fits though!
The coating does feel weird. I'm kinda getting used to it. They sound really good though!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker They sound like DR for sure, but feel like heavy coated Daddario to me, tense and plasticy
I'll admit it. I'm jealous. Where did you find blue strings? That aught to look really cool on stage with lights hitting it. Enjoy
Guitar center had them on a side bin. Found them by luck!
We would like to see some footage of you playing your show. Great channel. I bet you never realized you are such a good video maker.
You have one of these too?! Get out of my head! We should really grab a beer some time. I’m in Nashville too.
Well that's different...I had an accident w/a power tool in the 80's.,lost two fingertips on the fret hand so I discovered Billy gibbons 7 thru 38 about 2 or 3 yrs ago .,at first my chords were really wobbly but I got use to them.,but I used 9's for decades..love your channel Marty and good luck w/those strings.....
Well... I don't know to much about those strings but you seem to have picked the right guitar for them... The Ghost of Les Paul may come for you in the night... :)
For me this is the best looking brand new electric guitar on the market! The blue sparkle looks better than 2-3K Gibson color offerings. Only custom shop guitars or 4k and up look on par or better. I plan to get one but change out the pick guard for either transparent or white. I might change one of the pickups too. Wish they offered this color on other Epiphone/Gibson guitars. How is the guitar holding up a year later?
I played DR strings for about 20yrs. I used all the colors available. It was my experience that the coating would only come off where you pick. I would get about a months worth of use. They were much darker sounding than anything else out there. When I started working with Tim at TNtones pickups, I switched to Daddario as GC had them in stock all the time and I didn't want a string that I couldn't easily get.
I've played NYXL and the newest NYXS and NYXTs since starting Pickup development with Tim and love the tuning stability and life they offer.
In my exp, the black coated ones were the best. Lasted the longest and had the best feel. The other colors also felt "sharp" to me. And every now and then, I could feel the "thickness" of the coating.
All that being said; they will show up brightly under stage lights. The neon yellow and white really show up well. And the Multi color sets are great for students. The different string colors help them quickly identify which string is which as far as notes go.
I think these strings actually sound good. I wish they had 9's. The 10's are little to heavy for me leads. I prefer a lighter gage. I don't mind the way they feel after playing them for a while. I kinda got used to it. I think they look pretty neat too!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker i used them for twenty years. They sound good, just darker. And they have an awesome cool factor.
DR is a great string! SIT too! as a custom guitar builder try doing One string at a time especially on a Floyd and block it up.
Your channel the content is kool TY.
Thanks for the nice comment man! I wound up taking these things off. They felt too "coated". I think they sounded nice. Maybe if I had 9's vs 10's they would have felt better for me. Overall... sounded great and stayed in tune excellent.
I like everything except the pickguard! I know it's to reflect. But blue to match knobs! That's the ticket! Lol nice! Thanks Marty if you wake up tomorrow and your tally wackers blue??? Well then...??? The blue comes off! Lol
I like the mirror pickguard. It's different but kinda cool 🙌
Strings are perishable items so no big deal... but now we know....I really like that Epiphone LP nice color
Thanks man. I really am fond of this guitar. It's quite beautiful in person. 😎🙌
Easier to play in the dark!
Most definitely. 👍
You definitely have a bigger pair than I do cuz I don't think I could put strings like that on My guitar I bet you'll end up taking them off after the show if not Darren anyone want to start a pool of when Marty takes those strings off his Les Paul?
Haha! They're not too bad man!
I really dig the Epiphone Tommy Thayer Les Paul. Correct me if I'm wrong ,but doesn't this guitar have a solid maple top as opposed to a veneer? Cool video.🎸👍🎸
I'm pretty sure it's a solid maple top and just sprayed metallic blue. From everything I've seen.
Do we get a "After Gig" report on the strings? :)
They did good. Some light pick wear over the pickups. They didn't glow that great but got lots of compliments. 😎🙌
What did you treat the ftetboard with?
What's the weight? Solid body?
How long did those strings last ? Did you make it through your gig?
I only had a small session. About 6 tunes and about an hour of rehearsal. There was a tiny amount string color removal from my pick but that's it.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I’ve been outta the game for a few years as life kinda took over! Did not even know such a thing even existed! LOL It amazes me now with all the new technology the stuff you can do and the sounds you can get ! Still really digging your channel it’s pretty straight forward rock guitar ! Please don’t start sweep picking and going all Polyphia on us LOL
@@harryman5747 thanks so much! Nah I respect that stuff a lot. And can nerd out on it. But my roots are old school.
Rode the blue previous gen on my downshifter Ibanez for a happy 6 months before it went into the kit bag for 4 years. Worst rusty strings ever, still blue. Never again. Oh lights may make it hard for you to see.
had a set on my yellow Pea ey Super Tele in red they were OK but I use SS picks so the red went away rather quickly during play, but they looked cool for a gig
I'm noticing some pick wear but so far nothing on the fretting area. Time will tell. They're pretty neat strings and sound very good.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I'd buy em again I think it was due to using steel picks TBH I don't fault the strings
Hope the gig goes great Marty, the strings will hold up to the frying conditions pretty sure about that.
Went well! 😎

Outstanding Marty!!
