Danny and I love cabooses. We firmly believe that all trains should have a caboose and a conductor on the caboose. We need to spread a little joy around. Imagine Amtrak with one.
You’ll laugh but I have an Amtrak caboose. I’m with you and Danny, a freight train isn’t complete without a caboose. As a kid, I always waited for a friendly wave from the conductor when the caboose rolled through the road crossing 😊🚂
Fantastic upgrade Joe! Who would have ever dreamed it would turn out so well? That was really fun to watch! I have spent more time and money upgrading my old Bachmann Santa Fe stuff than it was ever worth. But, I have had lots of fun doing it. Now, I have a four engine (an ABBA configuration) WWII freight train with 20 freight cars hauling coal and recycled steel and aluminum headed for the recycling plants to build B17 bombers and tanks for the war effort on my layout. Keep on sharing your great skills my friend! Cheers, Danny
Danny, thank you so much! Your ABBA FT set looks really sharp! That’s cool you have a war production train for the layout. My grandpa was assigned to the Eighth Air Force during the war and serviced B17 and B24 bombers. That’s cool you keep your old trains running. One of my favorite parts of the hobby is to get old trains running again. Thanks and take care 👍🚂
@@atjoe1972 Thanks Joe! Holy smokes, the Eighth Army Air Force! That is truly awesome man! I would love to spend the day talking with him. Oh, the stories he could tell, I'm guessing. Thanks to him and your family for sacrifices made of the "Greatest Generation" during that terrible time. B17, B24, and B25s are my favorites by far from that time.
@@dannyholt105 Thanks Danny, I really appreciate it! 😊 Grandpa really never talked about the war. I’m a huge history buff, especially WWII. I would ask him lots of questions. He did tell me about a mission he went on in the only B29 in the European Theater. They were dropping leaflets on German cities urging them to surrender. He said the people would line up in the streets in awe of the B29 flying over them. I remember seeing his Bomber jacket and flight cap in the garage. This country owes so much to that generation. I have pictures of him in England and Belgium during the war. I’ll have to find them and do a tribute 👍😊
That orange Penn Central/Pacemaker was my introduction to Penn Central in the early 70s, The caboose was out in my friends back yard when i saw it. The mating worms got me hooked, then i saw the real freight cars and loved the green with white print. 👍
That’s great 👍😊 The Orange Marx caboose was my introduction to the PC as well. I saw it running on a Montgomery Wards Christmas display about 1970. I saw the logo and was hooked for life. Never mind it had a PC steam locomotive pulling it.😆 Living in Colorado, I never saw the real PC in action other than a occasional freight car rolling through town. I agree, the white logo on PC green is a favorite as well 👍🚂
@@atjoe1972 By the way, I also got a Marx Green Penn Central Caboose a couple of years later, kept the orange and the green cabooses on two pieces of lionel track on my dresser for years even though i modeled in H.O. scale.
You’re welcome Sarah and thank you for sharing the video 😊🚂 One thing you can tell Danny, working on model trains helps from feeling cold. Some of my trains can get my blood boiling and I’m downright hot. 🥵😉 Danny has quite the setup with his DCC. That takes some some real technical skill to put together 👍🚂
Thank you 😊 I got my first Marx set back in 1971. It’s crazy how fast the time has gone. The music I liked is now “classic” and my trains are “vintage”. I hear you, in no way do I feel old as well 😉😆
Thank you so much 👍 I’m glad you enjoyed it. I have a Lionel caboose project that I did last year ua-cam.com/video/fpYmM5WKjfE/v-deo.html that you might enjoy 🚂
Another great job to add an eight wheel Penn Central caboose to your fleet!! I like the crude but effective cutting that came out very nice after the filing. Very impressive work once again!
Thank you so much Sir John! 👍 It was a caboose just like this one that inspired a very young atjoe to become a Penn Central fan. I was too young to know that the PC wasn’t a legacy steam operator 😉 But thanks to Marx and Montgomery Wards, my Penn Central journey was launched 😊🚂
Thank you very much 👍😊 I just wanted it to match my other Marx trains. I think next time I’ll use a Dremel so I don’t stress the plastic as much. I thought I broke the side of it with one of my cuts. 🚂
Looks good. I just made a whole train from the cabooses in my scrap box & my 'Scratch & Dent Railroad' now uses them as passenger cars. All painted up Blue, so I call it the 'Marx Blue Pheonix' (because it rose again, from the ashes of my Scrap-Box).
Thanks! 😉 Your Blue Phoenix train looks great 👍 Your caboose modification was a little more refined than my method. I’ll have to follow your example for any future caboose projects. Gotta love the durability Marx built into their trains 🚂

You have everything. Nicely done Joe, you made a caboose into a more realistic Model. The wire cutter is a good move to use at what you did.Thumbs up

Where plastic wheels used on prewar tin rolling stock for electric trains ?
I’ll be honest, my Marx knowledge only goes back to the 1960’s. I couldn’t tell you anything about prewar Marx.
