  • 2 years on from nearly getting trampled and I've learned better how to deal with aggressive/curious young bullocks or cows.
This herd runs towards me but instead of getting stressed and shouting like last time, I stay (fairly) calm and walk backwards. Thankfully instead of trampling me they keep a metre or two away!

It's rare the sequel is better than the original ...... but you've smashed it!

The milk. They want it back.

None of these in the video show any aggression, they trust you and are just very interested in you (prolly looking for treats you have given them before). In your prequel the one jumping around wasn't being aggressive either, just a big kid wanting to play. Looks like you treat your cattle pretty good

My biggest fear is cows cuz I got chased by one once and I can’t even walk past them when there staring at me. This vid made me so scared even though I’m not the one there lol

Cows might think you are going to feed them unless they have calf with them, bulls are different. The farmer normally puts up a white flag on the two gates if the bull is in there with them. I was charges at 30 minutes ago, but stayed calm and shouted at them to back off. There was no white rag on the gate. I will take it the walker before me use it to wipe his ass once he got to the gate 🤣
You might learn the difference between a steer and a cow. A steer is a male cow and is more likely has been castrated but still can be dangerous. Cows are not so dangerous in a field unless they have a calf. Like all mothers, they protect their young.

LIkely they are following because they think your going to give them hay. Best to contact the owners of the livestock before entering an area where they are kept. Those are steers not cows while they are not bulls still can be aggressive.

I think you are right about the food thing. Contacting the owner isn't practical though. I was on a public right of way. Last time I was there, there were no cattle.

@@GoneFishin247 Eh? I was already on the public right of way when the cows came. There was no decision to go on it or not based on whether cattle were there or not!

Cows are very inquisitive. That is all that was. "Oh look, there's someone in our field. Let's go and have a look."
Just stand still and don't be such a snow flake!
    Cows are cool!
A totally different story if there are calves in the field with their moms. If that is the case walk around the edge of the field and don't get between the calves and the mothers.
If there is a bull with the cows, same advice.
If you can't help crapping yourself, then shout and wave your arms around.
If you have a dog with you then i'd advise not going into the field at all. Many cows don't like dogs.
I took the dog with me into the field on the lead(baling twine) to round up the sheep. I was 3/4 down the field when the dog started going a bit loopy. Then i heard the old cow mooing loudly. Then the other cows joined in. We had about 15 cows of various ages. I looked up to see them all sprinting flat out towwards us. The dog clearly understood cow as she was now yelping and running around me trying to get away. I just stood there thinking WTF?
When they got within about 15 yards away from me i let go of the baling twine and the dog took off like an exocet!
The cows passed either side of me after the dog.
I'd never seen a cow sprint before. It must have been painful as her udder was swinging from side to side hitting her sides as she ran. Daisy use to get wound up by the dog as she would nip at her heels as she walked up towards the barn every morning for milking.
The dog was well pi**sed off at me as she didn't come back for two days and it was over a week before she'd come anywhere near me.
I worked on that farm for about nine months. Then after i worked for several years with bulls. If one of those charges at you it's no good shouting and waving your arms at it. It'll probably just run straight through you, then back up a couple of times, just to 'make sure'. Bulls are quicker than you but can't turn very quickly. So if you can't get out of the field before they get to you, assuming they don't just stand there watching, which most will do, wait until they are almost on top of you and then step out of the way then leg it until they are getting close and repeat.
I haven't personally tried this method, but was told about it by a colleague who had worked on farms for many more years than i.
I've always crossed fields with a bull in by walking around the outside as far away from the bull as possible.

Townies make me laugh. I took a mate up Bredon Hill one day and the sheep were loose in the fields. In all seriousness, he asked, "are we safe? Will they attack?" I couldn't answer him. I was trying too hard not to wet myself i was laughing so much!
